The Merkava is a large battleship used by Krelian in Xenogears.

Description

Merkava is the mothership of the Deus system. Its outer shell has a diameter of 80 kilometers. The slits that cut into its surface store Deus' mobile terminal weapons the Seraph Angels. Its name is derived from the word meaning "Chariot of Heaven".

Merkava has an ultra-long range cannon that can vaporize any substance and has a barrier around the perimeter of it that nullifies any attacks against it. A portion of the barrier will temporarily open when firing with an approximately 2 second delay before the barrier reforms.

Analysis

Merkava was utilized by Solaris during the war 500 years prior to the events of the game. It was destroyed when Sophia, in a self-sacrificial move, crashed the Excalibur into it.

Following the discovery of Razael's Tree and through his nanotechnology, Krelian reconstructs Merkava after capturing Elly. Fei and the other party members attack it in order to recover her, fighting off self-regenerating nanomachine weapons along the way. Inside Ramsus and Miang are fought in Omnigears and Krelian and Miang are confronted but depart after Ramsus kills Miang and she transfers to Elly's body. Fei chases after them while the others escape. Merkava launches and devastates the surface of the planet. The party members regroup and along with Queen Zephyr and Taura make plans to defeat it. Through the usage of the Yggdrasil IV and the Excalibur, the Merkava's cannon is destroyed and it crashes to the planet. A giant object, Deus' final form appears out of the wreckage.
