Vierge is a Gear piloted by Elhaym Van Houten in Xenogears.

Description[edit]

Vierge was developed as an experimental new type of Gear as part of a trial experiment for the small type Aerod system. It collected A-type data and was a variation of a B-type form of Gear that already existed. The Vierge piloted by Elly was similar to the A2 type Gears on the interior and like those used by Bishops in battle. It also had similarity to the C1 type machines having Aerods equipped in both shoulder units. At its maximum capacity it could use 12 devices simultaneously. The Aerods have at their head point magnetic fields and project at the enemy in individual packets of energy. Inside the body of the device a beam is formed that shoots outward. The formerly small type devices installed in Vierge are more than 4 times more powerful than the typical Aerods. The reduced size condensers designed by Hyuga (Citan) have about 1.5 times more stored energy. The Aerods were initially based on technology from the Eldridge.

Analysis[edit]

Vierge is first revealed as a Gear assigned to Elly when she is put in charge of the Gebler Special Forces and heads out to the mountains near the border of Aveh and Kislev. As part of the mission she personally takes on Fei and the Gear displays its power including through using the Aerods. Elly later pilots it again when she takes part in the operation to attack Nortune. Elly remains piloting Vierge after joining the party, through the second Anima Dungeon. When Fei and the others are captured by Krelian and crucified at Golgoda, Elly instead uses Sophia's omnigear El-Regrs. Having left the party for the remainder of the game at this point, the Vierge is not used again.
