Alpha Weltall is an Omnigear piloted by Grahf in Xenogears.

Description

The Gear was formed approximately 500 years ago by the fusion of Lacan's Gear with the Anima Relic Naphtali. Akin to a Deus close defensive interface weapon, the Gear's power is greater than any normal Gear, and any within its energy output will be completely incinerated. The frame of the Gear is so strong that it was even able to withstand a direct blast from the Goliath's 1200 sem cannon. As the Gear has contracted with the Zohar, it can draw on absolute power enabling it to transform in the same way as Xenogears. The wings that can emerge from its back are its primary defense system.

Analysis

Alpha Weltall is an Omnigear piloted by Grahf. It has a close resemblance to Weltall, as Weltall was modeled after it. The Gear first appears in Lahan Village near the beginning of the game, influencing the skirmish that occurs there. It next appears in the desert as Fei is wandering around. Grahf appears with it later in the desert by the Aveh - Kislev border. Grahf and the Gear display another ability here by being able to provide greater power to Vanderkaum's Gear Dora by enabling it to draw more energy off of the Zohar. Grahf appears to do this to two additional Gears later in the game, Alkanshel and Shakhan's Gear. The Gear appears in Nortune when Grahf rescues Elly and her Gear Vierge. Grahf attacks the party in the Goliath with it shortly afterwards.

There are a few instances during the game where the Gear reverts to a lower power form when Khan as Wiseman has been able to take control of his body. This includes when he heads to the Ethos Dig Site to hold off Id. After an extended absence the Gear appears again in disc 2 when Grahf accompanies the Solaris forces to Mahanon. Here it is fought directly for the first time and it easily defeats the party. It is confronted one final time in Bethlehem when Fei fights Grahf in the newly transformed Xenogears. After being defeated Grahf sacrifices himself and the Gear to temporarily hold off the Zohar.

The Gear is mislabeled as True Weltall during the final battle with it, although it remains the same Gear seen throughout the game.
