Rattan (ケンレン, Kenren) is a Human-Gear hybrid that appears in Xenogears.
Description[edit]
Rattan is a bulky humanoid Gear with an inhuman face. He is armed with a wrecking ball on its right arm and a shield on its left arm. Originally a subordinate of Krelian 500 years ago within the Monastery Corps, Rattan was killed defending Sophia and had his personal data preserved. He was resurrected as the central command portion of this Gear. Almost nothing of his original human personality remains and it uses almost entirely collective battle instincts.
Story[edit]
Rattan accompanies Emeralda and her Gear Crescens to the third Solaris Gate on the surface, located in the Sargasso Sea. He explains himself to be a follower of Krelian and acts rather politely to the group, letting them have Emeralda after they defeat her. He appears later in the game at Golgoda, along with the Gear Mugwort as they fight Elly, piloting El-Regrs. His politeness now appears gone and he laughs at Elly's potential death. Elly launches an attack that destroys both of them shortly afterwards.
