This article is about the Gear in Xenogears. For the enemy in Xenosaga Episode II, see Crescens (XS2).

Crescens is a Gear piloted by Emeralda in Xenogears.

Description[edit]

Crescens was developed, similar to Vierge, with the intention of being able to use the Aerod system. Planned for inclusion of the Aerod attack device within its body, its controlling interface was rejected and it remained in a state of dormancy. However due to the acquisition of Emeralda by Krelian, its development was resumed and Emeralda's body was merged with the Gear. The Gear was designed with its arms missing as a memorial to Emeralda's time being frozen. The Aerod system was set up within the wing-shaped objects attached to its head, and as such sub thrusters could be used in place of the arms. The wing-shaped Aerods are made up of nanomachines and as a result do not require maintenance. Nanomachines from Emeralda's body are also used to stabilize the entire Gear's system.

Analysis[edit]

As the party destroys the 3 Gates on the surface shielding Solaris from being found, Krelian arranges to have Emeralda sent to the third Gate to fight the party. She is provided with the Gear Crescens. After being defeated, she joins the party and uses the Gear the remainder of the game. Unlike most of the other party members, Emeralda does not receive an omnigear upgrade for Crescens, although concept art for it can be found in Perfect Works.
