The Eldridge is a large spacecraft that plays a critical role in the plot of Xenogears.
Description[edit]
A colony ship, the Eldridge was the second of the Philadelphia Class of space cruisers. The colony resided in the hull of the ship. The Eldridge was requisitioned by the military on a temporary basis for the transferal of Deus and 8 members of the bridge's crew were military personnel.
Story[edit]
After Deus went out of control and destroyed an entire planet, it was dismantled and placed on the Eldridge with the purpose of transporting it. During the journey, as seen in the opening movie for the game, Deus activated and started hacking into Razael, which acted as the Eldridge's mainframe. It activated space displacement mode and planned to move the Eldridge to what was described as the "Main Planet". The captain of the Eldridge, Shigeyoshi Inoue made the decision to use the central ship's bolt system to stop Deus. With this failing, he decided to evacuate the ship, but Deus used the ship itself to attack any evacuees. Out of options, Inoue decided to self-destruct the Eldridge. The ship was caught by the gravity of a nearby planet and it plunged into the atmosphere, breaking up along the way. only a block with emergency navigational ability was able to have a soft landing. The central part of the ship's body sunk to the sea floor in the center of the ocean and Kadomony and Zohar separately broke loose.
Crashing to the planet 10,000 years before the events of the game, the Eldridge even in modern times plays a key role in many locations and plot points of the game.
- The central block of the ship became known as Mahanon. It had a soft landing due to its independent navigational ability and sunk into the depths of the ocean, to be activated by the Gaetia Key. It held the central nucleus of Deus as well as Razael's Tree.
- The hull of the ship crashed into the Aquvy region and became known as Babel Tower.
- One of the laser turrets on the ship crashed into the Ignas continent and later became known as Ft. Jasper.
- Various crafts held on it would be discovered and used in later wars including the first and second Excalibur and the Yggdrasil IV.
