Proto Merkabah is a facility in Xenosaga Episode I - Der Wille zur Macht. It was created by Joachim Mizrahi with the intent of creating MOMO Mizrahi. Albedo Piazzolla later takes control of it and uses it as a weapon. According to Juli Mizrahi, Proto Merkabah was meant to be used to "discover the true form of the universe".
Story[edit]
Proto Merkabah is a large industrial plant built by Joachim Mizrahi. As a prototype for the Merkabah, its intended purpose was to serve as the mothership for Proto Ω alongside the Song of Nephilim. It can absorb Gnosis and convert them into a power source to be used as a weapon. It is also the birthplace of MOMO. After the Miltian Conflict, the Galaxy Federation dropped Proto Merkabah into the Abyss, but Albedo is able to revive it in the Miltian Star System. The Contact Subcommittee were outraged by the fact that Proto Merkabah has returned, believing it was destroyed after disposing of it in the Abyss. He uses it to absorb the nearby Gnosis then fire upon the Federation Fleet, destroying it before deciding to target Second Miltia with it. Shion and the others make their way into Proto Merkabah in order to stop him. They confront him in the reactor room. After defeating him, Albedo departs, forcing the party to battle Sophie Peithos, a large Gnosis that is fused with the reactor. Afterwards, Proto Merkabah begins to crash into Second Miltia's atmosphere. the party departs from Proto Merkabah, determining that they need to detach its sub components so it doesn't damage Second Miltia. KOS-MOS voluntarily stayed behind to detach Proto Merkabah's sub components and barely makes it back to the Elsa.

Originally, it was planned to serve as the mothership of Proto Omega alongside

to create MOMO.
After the Miltian Conflict, it was taken over by the Federation government and
was sealed inside the Abyss, from which it was resurrected by Albedo Piazolla.
It can take in Gnosis, convert them to energy, and use that energy as a weapon.
If it were ever actually used, it has enough power to wipe out a combined fleet
instantly.
Joachim actually used this ability not as a weapon, but to resurrect his daughter's consciousness within MOMO.
