Aux Core

Aux Cores are items in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country that can be equipped to Blades to provide certain advantages, such as increasing damage, evasion rate, and block chance, depending on certain conditions, or providing damage reduction from certain elements or spike damage. Certain Aux Cores also act as costumes, changing the user's appearance in gameplay and most cutscenes.

Aux Cores are available in two forms, an unrefined form and a refined form. Unrefined Aux Cores are unusable and must be refined, by using collectibles at Aux Core shops found in every nation of Alrest, before they can be equipped to a Blade. Which and how many collectibles are needed to refine an Aux Core depends on its effect and its rank: some only need a general "five rare collectibles" or "eight insect collectibles", while others require an exact list of specific items. Despite being refined at a "shop", there is no overhead cost beyond the necessary collectibles.

The number of Aux Cores that can be equipped to a Blade depends on the number of Aux Core slots said Blade has, with the maximum of slots being three. The amount of Aux Core slots is character-specific for Rare and Legendary Blades, and is random for Common Blades. If two Aux Cores have the same-worded effect, or both change the appearance of the user, only one of them can be equipped at a time.

In Xenoblade Chronicles 2[edit]

In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, only unrefined Aux Cores can be found or given as rewards, with the exception of appearance-changing Aux Cores. Unrefined and appearance-changing Aux Cores can be acquired in many ways:

  • Quests - Many quests have unrefined Aux Cores as a reward.
  • Merc Missions - Many Merc Missions have unrefined Aux Cores as their first time completion reward.
  • Treasure troves - Many non-salvaged treasure troves contain unrefined Aux Cores.
  • NPCs - Some NPCs will give unrefined Aux Cores after talking to them or performing some actions.
  • In Challenge Battle Mode, rank VI unrefined Aux Cores, which cannot be found anywhere else, can be found inside the treasure troves given as rewards after completing challenge battles.
  • The Massive Melee Mythra Aux Core can be received from Brobro, while the rest of the appearance-changing Aux Cores can be exchanged for Noponstone or Flawless Noponstone at Noponstone Exchange.

In Torna ~ The Golden Country[edit]

In Torna ~ The Golden Country, Aux Cores no longer need to be refined and can instead be found in treasure troves, given by NPCs, or given as a reward for completing quests. Additionally, a specific Aux Core will be awarded upon completing a Blade's Affinity Chart.

Rank[edit]

Aux Cores come in six ranks, with rank I being the weakest, and rank VI being the most powerful. Each rank's effect is set, meaning that there is no variation between two Aux Cores of the same type and rank. The unrefined Aux Core's rank directly translates to the refined Aux Core's, as such an unrefined Affinity MAX Atk II Aux Core will always be refined into an Affinity MAX Atk II Aux Core. Some Aux Cores do not come in ranks.

Mechanically, the concept of "rank" is merely a decoration. Aux Cores do not know what "rank" they are aside from whatever happens to be in their name.
