Alrest
Alrest (アルスト) is the world of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country. Alrest is composed of an endless sea of clouds with the World Tree sitting in the center. Several Titans live in the Cloud Sea and circle the World Tree, forming Alrest's landmasses. It is home to several races, most notably the Gormotti, Urayans, Ardainians, Tantalese, Leftherian, Indoline, Nopon, and, formerly, the Tornans and Coeians.
Story[edit]
History[edit]
Alrest was orginally known as Earth and was the home of the humans. The humans of the planet had come into contact with the Conduit and used it to advance their technology and eventually broke out into civil war. Using the power of the Conduit, Klaus accidently destroyed the planet in an attempt to create a new universe. This event transformed Klaus into the Architect. Feeling grief over the destrctuction he caused, he used his newfound powers to create the Cloud Sea - a substance that would restore the world that he destroyed. He then created the Core Crystals and scattered them across the Cloud Sea. These Core Crystals would eventually become Titans that would give birth to the humans and serve as the habitat for the lifeforms of Alrest. This was all managed by the Trinity Processor cores Logos and Pneuma. Throughout the years the beanstalk became known as the World Tree as it became covered in vegetation.
As the new humanity develops on the backs of the Titans, many events, not listed in chronological order here, begin to shape Alrest in the lead up to the Aegis War:
- The Kingdom of Torna uses their Titan's power to dominate Alrest for a thousand year, ending only when a Tornan king, Alektos the First, seals its power[1].
- Mor Ardain leads the world of Alrest into an industrial revolution, creating a time of unrest[2].
- Captain Nopopon decides to convert from the life of a sailor and pirate into the life of a merchant, intending to exploit the humans' perception of the Nopon to his advantage to trade with them. This paved the way for the creation of the Nopon Trade Guilds[3].
- Meldinare, possibly someone of Judician origin, finds the original Aegis. Considering it a divine revelation from the Architect, they found Indol and its religion. The religion would spread within Alrest, giving Indol a vast amount of influence over its nations[4][5].
Torna ~ The Golden Country[edit]
Alrest eventually developed several countries and unique civilizations on the back of the Titans, all living in relative peace. A member of the Indoline Praetorium named Amalthus climbed the World Tree and stole Logos and Pneuma. He resonated with Logos and instantiated as Malos. Malos quickly went rogue, abandoning Amalthus and destroying the Titan Coeia, a destruction later attributed to an alliance between Indol and Mor Ardain. During his rampage, he devastates Judicium with some battle eventually coming to Tantal as well. These series of conflicts eventually became known as the Aegis War. Malos eventually sets his sights on destroying the Titan Torna but came into conflict with his fellow Aegis Mythra and her Driver Addam. During their battle Torna was destroyed, with many survivors fleeing to Spessia and Addam and Pyra heading to Leftheria on their own[6]. In an attempt to kill Addam and Pyra, the recently promoted Amalthus invaded and eventually sunk Spessia. In order to prevent anyone else from climbing the World Tree the Artifice Ophion was repaired by Tantal and reprogrammed to guard the World Tree. This inadvertantly created the Great Void.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2[edit]
In the five hundred years following the events of Torna ~ The Golden Country, a few events impacted Alrest as a whole:
- 350 year before the events of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the Indoline Praetorium signs the Osirian Treaty, preventing them from intervening in times of war[7].
- Around fifty years before the events of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the Empire of Mor Ardain invades and annexes Gormott, which becomes the Gormott Province[8].
- Around ten years before the events of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, two wars happen to coincide with each other, the Gormotti War, which happened on Gormott's soil and lead to many Gormotti seeking refuge in Indol, and a war between Mor Ardain and Uraya, which ended with a ceasefire around that time[9][10].
Xenoblade Chronicles 3[edit]
Sometime following the events of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, both Alrest and Bionis learned of one another's existence, and the impending calamity of their worlds' Intersection. Both worlds would construct half of Origin, with the intent of letting both worlds and the lives within survive this cataclysm. However, rather than annihilate and dissolve into light as predicted, Origin, hobbled by the coalescence of Moebius, jumbled both worlds together, freezing them in an eternal present.
Various parts of Alrest can be seen scattered across Aionios. The Urayan Titan comprised the Urayan Mountains, the Letherian Titans can be seen as part of Erythia Sea, The Gormotti Titan's is fused with Gaur Plains, and the Land of Morytha has fused with Makna Forest, and oddly Dannagh Desert can be seen being a part of the Fornis Region despite the original being destroyed long before the Intersection.
After Z's defeat and Origin's reactivation, Alrest and its denizens would be restored.
Future Redeemed[edit]
In the Cent-Omnia Region of Aionios, Tantal has fused with parts of Raguel Lake, and Gotrock Oracle Ruins transplanted right next to Colony 9. The Ardainian Titan can be seen.
