Awakening (XC2)

Awakening or Elemental Awakening is a mechanic in the combat of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country. Certain enemies may become Awakened when an element orb is placed upon them. This increases the damage they deal, decreases the cooldown on their Arts, and decreases the duration of Blade Combos inflicted on them.

Overview[edit]

Awakening is mostly used by bosses and unique monsters in Torna ~ The Golden Country and enemies in Challenge Battle Mode. It comes in 9 levels, which determine:

  • The chance that any given element orb may activate Awakening, generally dependent upon whether they are Enraged or not;
  • The damage boost they deal when Awakened, given by an independent multiplier;
  • The increase to the rate at which their Arts recharge;
  • The amount by which the duration of Blade Combos on the enemy are decreased.

Shulk's level I Special, Monado Purge, has the unique effect of being able to remove enemy Awakened status. Removing all element orbs from an enemy via a Chain Attack also removes this status. Once it is removed, enemies may Awaken once again if another element orb is applied.
