Damage barrier
Damage barriers are a mechanic in the combat of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country. When a character has a damage barrier, damage they take does not reduce their HP.
A damage barrier is summoned with a certain amount of HP (often a certain fraction of the affected character's maximum HP). The barrier can absorb this much damage before being disappearing. Any remaining damage carries over to the affected character; it is effectively similar to being healed for the equivalent amount of HP of the barrier, although more useful because it works even when the character is at high or maximum HP.
Attacks which have all of their damage absorbed by a damage barrier cannot inflict Break.
When an attack is absorbed by a damage barrier, a unique streamer-like particle effect appears, and damage numbers do not appear.
