Rage Strike is a mechanic in Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Bringer of Chaos difficulty. The first art an enemy uses after enraging applies this debuff on top of everything else, which deals an extra +200% damage and depletes 50 points (half a bar) from the Party Gauge per hit. This can be repeated if the enemy can enrage multiple times.
Strategy[edit]
Rage Strike's debuff, coupled with the possibility that the enemy may pair it up with a high damage dealing art, means it is usually preferable to dodge the hit. This may be done by either using the invincibility frames provided by a level 4 Special or a Blade Combo finisher, or by using a Driver Art that guarantees evasion or a Battle Skill that does the same like Aegaeon's Serene Heart. The latter is the better solution as using invincibility frames will not stop the Party Gauge from being depleted.
If the Party Gauge is full, it may be better to simply use the Chain Attack (or other super move that requires three bars) then and there, depending on what art is coming. In the extreme case, an art that hits a teammate six times (meaning it can only be evaded at the whims of the AI) will drive the gauge down from full to zero - so might as well spend it on something instead of losing it for nothing. Other arts may have lesser but still drastic depletions, such as an AoE art that hits everyone twice (even if the player evades it, that's still two bars gone). It is important to know when a Rage Strike is imminent and plan ahead for it.
