EXP (XC2)

EXP, short for Experience Points, are the points used to increase party member level in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country. Once a character reaches certain EXP thresholds, they go up in level.

EXP is a property of Drivers (including temporary party members such as Malos). There is no direct Blade equivalent, although Trust functions similarly in several ways.

Playable characters who are not in the current list of Drivers do not gain EXP. This applies both to those that leave the party temporarily and situations such as that of Catalyst.

Bonus EXP

Bonus EXP, sometimes shortened to BEXP, is a special form of "stored" EXP. Bonus EXP does not contribute to levelling up Drivers; however, it can be exchanged at Inns and Camp for an equal amount of ordinary EXP to increase Drivers' levels.

In New Game+, ordinary EXP can also be exchanged for an equal amount of bonus EXP at Inns by levelling down. In addition, traveling bards appear, which allow Drivers to exchange bonus EXP for permanent power-ups and difficult-to-obtain items.

Defeating enemies

Each enemy grants a certain amount of (ordinary) EXP to all Drivers. This value can be modified in several ways:

• If an enemy's HP is reduced to 0 during a Chain Attack, any additional damage increases a so-called "bonus ratio". This increases the amount of EXP awarded.
• If an enemy is defeated with a Fusion Combo active (not during a Chain Attack), "Joint Combo Finish" displays on-screen and EXP gains are increased. The amount by which they are increased ranges from 40% for a stage 2 Fusion Combo to 100% at stage 7. See Fusion Combo#General effects for intermediate values.
• The Cosmetipolitan Deeds, Lectica Deeds, Tatraty Deeds, and Boldarde Deeds each increase battle experience gained by 10%. In Torna ~ The Golden Country, the Tiger-Winged Helmet, Rock-Hard Plaster, and Mireille's Clay Bell also have this effect.
• The Battle Skill Accelerated Growth, found on Common Blades, boosts battle experience by 30-50%.
• The accessories 0-Battle Course (by 25%) and 0-Battle Course+ (by 50%) also boost battle experience.
• Drivers whose level is above or below that of the defeated enemy have their EXP gains modified, independently of the above effects. See Level (XC2)#Level differences for the exact values.
• EXP is capped at a maximum of 99,999 per enemy defeated, regardless of boosts from other sources.

Exploration

Discovering a Location, Landmark, or Secret Area grants all party members bonus EXP. The amount granted is dependent upon the specific area discovered.

Quests

Completing quests, including main story quests, grants bonus EXP. The amount granted is dependent upon the quest, and may depend upon the route taken in multi-route quests.
