Neilnails are mysterious Skell enemies in Xenoblade Chronicles X under the Mechanoid classification.
During the events of The Unknown Threat, these enemies appear in Lake Ciel in Sylvalum after destroying a research team. They show themselves to the player's team once a dismembered Skell is investigated, and then fight.
These Skells stand at eight meters tall from head to toe, with ice skate-like feet for quick movement in the air.
The large protrusion on the Neilnail's head is supposed to be a Logical Drive mast, a reference to the Xenosaga games.[1]
While the Neilnails do not play a role in the original game, the twin Skells are shown in a Definitive Edition-exclusive cutscene[2] launching themselves into the sky.
Description[edit]
Though the Neilnails do not have an Enemy Index entry, there is an unused description for them stored in the files of the Japanese version of the game. This text is not present in the English version.
Japanese Text[edit]
ミラで発掘された謎のドール。他の無人機と異なり、2機のみが発掘されている。
発掘された際に自動起動。グロウス部隊を壊滅させた後、所在不明となった。
そのため、機体性能などはまったく不明。
English Translation[edit]
A mysterious Skell excavated in Mira. Unlike the other drones, only two have been excavated.
Once they were excavated, they both entered an auto-boot sequence. Their current whereabouts became unknown after destroying the Ganglion unit who unearthed them.
As a result, the machines' performance and other details are completely unknown.
In combat[edit]
Neilnails work with constant buffs of various types, and they also inflict Sleep and Stun to cause trouble for the player.
Their most notable move is their Spin Kick, which inflicts Knockback rather often. Additionally, the Furvus is capable of using Vitality Absorb to drain TP and GP.
Neilnails have the ability to accelerate time and buff up their partner, since they always come in pairs.
Additionally, they have weaknesses to beam and electric attacks, and have a large resistance to ether and physical attacks.

Variations[edit]
As they are bosses, Neilnails always come in pairs. Since they only show up in missions through the Network Console, these enemies cannot be found in the Enemy Index.
- Neilnail Albus is primarily white.
- Neilnail Furvus is primarily black.
These enemies do not drop any items, since they only appear in the Time Attack mission Twin Dolls of Mystery and the Squad Mission The Unknown Threat, unlocked through BLADE Mission No. 4.
After the missions they're in are completed, the missions give these materials as rewards:
