Mira

Mira is the main setting of Xenoblade Chronicles X. It is a planet full of life with five major continents. Additionally, it is one of the possible origins of the Nopon. The planet is mainly ocean, but it also contains a variety of continents and islands on its surface inhabited with a wide variety of life, also known as indigens.

Planetary Geography[edit]

Mira is a planet located within a small, enclosed region of space. The planet itself tidally locked to five moons that are visible at night. During the daytime, a sun appears in the sky in the southwest when day starts at 5:00 and sets in the southwest when night falls at 19:00.

Interestingly enough, it is possible to see the stars through some of the moons.

The space around Mira is described as being “small” by a Ma-non, and approximately 800 exedits in diameter by the Ganglion. This fictional unit is defined by Goetia as thoroughly scourable within the span of three days at light speed.

There is something about the planet that allows the various alien species of the planet to understand their languages as if they were their own. Elma hypothesizes that the planet makes it so languages are being communicated through intent rather than words.

History[edit]

Prior to the humans arriving on Mira, the Nopon lived on the planet, as they were native to it.

A month before the humans arrived, the Ma-non arrived, as well as the Ganglion, an offshoot of the Samaar Federation. Around that time, the Ganglion had also built large strongholds across the continent and were aiming to capture both them and the Nopon.

In the year 2056, the White Whale, piloted by humans from Earth who fled their destroyed planet, was attacked by Ghost forces. Even though the forces were repelled, the ship sustained heavy damage. After the fight, the planet Mira had appeared in front of the ship, which was surprising to the crew since the planet was not marked on any starcharts the humans had. Due to the planet's gravitational pull, the ship was forced to crash-land on Mira.

The ship crash-landed on the southwestern corner of the continent of Primordia leading to humans establishing their permanent settlement there and naming it New Los Angeles. Their crash landing also led to the Ganglion attacking them, as their goal was to kill all of the humans.

Chapter 13[edit]

Mira's fate is sealed with the appearance of the Ghost, prompting BLADE to initiate a second Project Exodus to evacuate the planet's inhabitants to another universe.

Etymology[edit]

In the story Forging BLADE, it is stated that the planet was named by Director General Maurice Chausson after Mira Torres, one of the first drafters of the plan to escape the Earth and one of the members of the Earthlife Colonization Project.

That being said, Tatsu name-drops Mira as the planet name when Elma and Lin meet him in Chapter 3. It is possible that the Nopon used their local name, but the translation mechanism on the planet would cause others would hear their own name for the planet.

Trivia[edit]

  • The name Mira, translating from Latin as "wonderful" or "astonishing", comes from the binary star designated as Omicron Ceti, and traditionally known as Mira, in the Cetus constellation—Cetus, named after a sea monster in Greek mythology, is also the region of the sky where the water-related Aquarius, Pisces, and Eridanus constellations are located, with both tying into the fact that Mira, in Xenoblade Chronicles X, is mostly comprised of ocean.
    • Mira is also the name of a location in Monolith Soft's previous series, Baten Kaitos—the binary star Zeta Ceti, traditionally named Baten Kaitos itself, is also in the same region of the sky as Mira.
