Zigs are floating enemies in Xenoblade Chronicles X under the Mechanoid classification. These automated turrets can notice and attack their enemies from long range, ruining the days of anyone trying to sneak into Ganglion-occupied areas.
Description
These autonomous Ganglion cannons can detect enemies with astounding efficiency. Dense armor gives them a sweeping advantage in head-to-head shootouts, while the weapons affixed to either arm can be customized for all forms of warfare, including anti-personnel, anti-surface, and anti-air.
In one past conflict, hundreds of such units were deployed on the deck of a space carrier as a form of extra firepower. The operation was ultimately written off as a failure, however, due to the massive costs incurred.
Additional Notes
During Chapter 5, the Ma-non Ship was damaged by three Zigs in Oblivia firing massive lasers at it, forcing it to hide itself. Elma's team helped destroy the three Targeter Zigs, which allowed humanity and the Ma-non to form an alliance.
In combat
Zigs tend to have few attacks, although the extent of their attacks typically depend on their variation and their model. Many, however, do have a Flame Launcher or Flame Cannon that deals thermal damage and can Topple flying Skells.
While their attacks are few, Zigs make themselves known because of their long visual and auditory range. They are typically the first enemy to notice the player, and this typically leads to a Flinch. It can be a good idea to equip some Aural Cloaking and Visual Cloaking to avoid combat with Zigs, since they can see and hear farther than almost any other enemy in the game. Additionally, the Aura Shadowrunner can be used outside combat to avoid detection.
