Tainted are variants of enemies in Xenoblade Chronicles X under the Theroid and Piscinoid classifications.
These variants exist in northeastern Noctilum in the Dead Man's Gulch, a part of the continent devoid of all other life. During the events of Chapter 6, the Ganglion try to fight through them in order to get access to the Vita.
Description[edit]
The tainted are abnormal variants of common creatures found only in certain parts of Noctilum. They attack and devour anything they encounter, save for other tainted creatures.
Specimens include varieties of sphinx, caro, and scintimure that have been infected by a virus that induces madness. As this virus is unable to survive outside of Noctilum, the rest of Mira remains safely unaffected.
Additional Notes[edit]
The Tainted are known to be merciless to organic life. However, as humans are in mimeosome bodies, the Tainted are less hostile to them. That being said, even one potato among a group of humans will set them off.
During the events of Dead Men Tell No Tales, the Zaruboggan were sent to Dead Man's Gulch to survey the dangerous terrain. One of the Zaruboggan is attacked by a group of Compulsive Tainted caro. After Cross's team fights them off, the race agrees to desert the Ganglion and join the humans in New LA.
In combat[edit]
Tainted enemies are actually very similar to their non-tainted counterparts. However, they are immune to both Control and most are immune to Sleep (except for the Tainted Sphinx for unknown reasons).
