The Real Number Domain, also referred to as Normal Space or Real Space, is the physical half of the Lower Domain where the Xenosaga series takes place.

Description[edit]

The Real Number Domain is a layer of reality that exists in tandem with the "spiritual" world, the Imaginary Number Domain. While both realms exist as two sides of the same coin, only the Real Number Domain can be regularly perceived, as Imaginary Space is purely metaphysical. With this in mind, it could be said that everything that happens in the Xenosaga series is portrayed from a Real Number Domain perspective. Everything in Imaginary Space has an equivalent existence in Normal Space.

A person's consciousness that exists in Imaginary Space can only obtain individuality through inhabiting a physical body in Normal Space. In doing so, a physical separation is made between one's self and others. As such, a physical body acts as a consciousness' sort of "anchor" to the physical world. When this anchor is lost, i.e., the person's body dies, their consciousness loses its individuality and returns to the Collective Unconscious.

Humanity[edit]

Main article: Human

Humans are the predominant intelligent species in the Real Number Domain. Despite having explored the cosmos for about 5000 years, humanity never discovered any other traces of intelligent life. With the exception of the man-made artificial life of Realians and Androids, humanity is the sole intelligent species with consciousnesses existing in Imaginary Space.
