Fields are a mechanic in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in which certain Battle Arts place a circle on the ground that applies an effect to participants that position within it. Most fields provide healing or buffs to the setter and their allies, while some instead cause damage or debuffs to opponents.

The party may only have 3 fields active at a time; having the Ring à la Mode skill will increase this to 4. Placing another will cause the field with the lowest remaining duration to go out with a bang - damage and healing fields will do an extra-large dose, while buff and debuff fields will apply a regular version of their buff/debuff, thus compensating for not reaching its full duration. This does not happen if a field merely expires. There are few enough ways for enemies to place fields that their simultaneous limit is both unknown and irrelevant.

Placing a field is the main role action of healers. As a result, only one field-creating art is allowed to be equipped at a time, whether it's the art's primary purpose or its secondary one. Most fields increase in radius when the art is levelled up, rather than strength or duration.
