This is the history of the worlds of the Xenoblade Chronicles series, and the chronological order which events occurred. incomplete == Klaus' world == *The Conduit is discovered in Africa by an unidentified scientist. *The Coalition government forms the Aoidos institution to study the Conduit. *10 years after the formation of Aoidos, it is learned that the Conduit acts a gateway between multiple universes. *The Coalition government sets up three orbital tower "Beanstalks" on the equator (first tower Rhadamanthus, second tower Aeacus, third tower Minos). *The Orbital Ring is constructed atop the three towers, allowing the government to do further research on the Conduit away from the surface of Earth. *A governing artificial intelligence collective known as the Trinity Processor is raised to maintain the Conduit. *The Trinity Processor develops Artifices to protect the Orbital Ring. *The Earthlife Colonization Project, also known as Project Exodus, sends a total of three million settlers out to the stars. *The Saviorite Human Rights Protection bill is brought to congress during an unspecified summer month. The bill sparks a lot of public debate. *A year later, at midnight on the sixteenth of an unspecified month, the first Rhadamanthus Spaceport launches the Icarus. The mothership is carrying 480,000 settlers to the Eta Carinae Nebula in the Carina-Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. *The Coalition government plans to send out ships nine to thirteen in the same year, each boasting a capacity of up to 1.5 million people. The ninth vessel is planned for departure in July. *The 13 Authorities petition against the Saviorite Human Rights protection bill. *Dimitri Yuriev, councilperson from the Minos Authority, issues a statement regarding the bill. *A rebel group known as the Saviorites makes demands to the Coalition government to hand over the Conduit to them. *At some point before the experiment, humankind were developing a material to replace human brain cells as a means of immortality. This would eventually become the basis of the Core Crystal technology used by Klaus. *In 20XX, the First Low Orbit Station at Rhadamanthus tower is attacked by the Saviorites. *The Beanstalk director attempts to initialize Aion to repel the incoming invasion, but fails to do so as they are locked out by Professor Klaus. *Klaus syncs the Trinity Processor to the Conduit. Another scientist named Galea attempts to stop him, as it is too dangerous to conduct the experiment. She ultimately fails to change his mind, leading Klaus to initiate the experiment. *The experiment causes a bright light to envelop Earth before vanishing and creating at least one new universe. == Split era == The following two sections run in parallel, starting and ending at the same time, though it is unspecified whether the same amount of time passed between each. === World of Bionis and Mechonis === Some of the information in this section is only known from a chronology published in the Monado Archives, which has no official translation. ====Long ago==== * Half of Klaus, an unclear portion of Galea, and the Ontos core end up in a new universe. This Klaus believes his experiment has succeeded, and takes on the role of Zanza, a god of this new world. Galea becomes a second god, Meyneth, while Ontos takes on an identity as the overseer of the world. * Zanza and Meyneth create two titans, the Bionis and Mechonis, and become their souls. They then create life to life on those titans: the Giants and High Entia on Bionis, and the Machina on Mechonis. * The cultures of the two titans meet amicably. * Egil and Arglas form a friendship. * The cities of Alcamoth and Agniratha are constructed. * Arglas finds the Monado, which allows Zanza to possess him and use him as a vessel. Zanza acquires disciples and forces the Bionis to attack Mechonis, ruining the Machina and causing a fight between the titans that "kills" them both. Defeated, Meyneth enters a long slumber, while Zanza's soul is split by the High Entia - sealing his body in Prison Island, and his soul (with the Monado) in Ose Tower. The remaining Machina take refuge on the Fallen Arm. * Egil, looking for revenge, proclaims himself leader of Mechonis and decides to invade Bionis, killing Machina who oppose him. * The High Entia, aware that Zanza may be released and transform them into Telethia, begin to research how to avoid this. Their theoretical solution is to cross-breed with Homs. They build systems to protect this knowledge and protect themselves from future attacks from Mechonis. * Mechon begin to attack Bionis, and continue to do so for many years. * The High Entia choose to ban the Bionite Order, which has been gaining popularity, though this is mostly ineffective. * The Homs begin to establish colonies across the Bionis. ====Present time==== * Two people join a team of people who plan to find the Monado and use it against the Mechon. These two shortly give birth to Shulk. * The expedition team finds the Monado. Zanza is awoken and steals the life of everyone there, including Shulk. Zanza takes Shulk as a vessel, effectively resurrecting him. Dickson shortly arrives to take both Shulk and the Monado to Colony 9. * Only Colony 9 and Colony 6 remain from Mechon attacks. * Galahad Fortress is constructed, allowing the Mechonis to siphon ether from the Bionis. * The Battle of Sword Valley occurs. Dunban uses the Monado to seemingly wipe out the Mechon. Egil decides he needs to do something about this, and develops Face Mechon using the casualties of the battle. * Shulk begins to study the Monado. * The Mechon invade and occupy Colony 6. Many escape to a Refugee Camp. All who remained either die or are captured for Face purposes. * Sorean, the current emperor of the High Entia, is provided a vision of the future by Alvis, the current seer of Alcamoth and projection of the Ontos core. This vision tells Sorean he will visit Prison Island and use whatever's inside (Arglas, unknown to him) against the Mechon, but die in the process. It also tells him that his daughter Melia will be involved. * The Mechon raid Colony 9. Shulk discovers he can use the Monado. Fiora is killed. * Shulk and Reyn head out on a journey of revenge. They meet Sharla and take back Colony 6, then Dunban joins them. * Melia is tasked to kill an unusually powerful Telethia, and does so with Shulk's help. This leads to her undergoing further trials and being named successor to the empire. * The Mechon attack Eryth Sea. Metal Face kills both Sorean and Arglas, allowing Zanza to fully reform within Shulk while also unshackling the Monado. Shulk discovers that Fiora is still alive. * The party advances on Mechonis. They defeat Metal Face, lose to Egil, and discover the Machina. Eventually they confront Egil once more, after learning the truth of what happened to cause the titans to fight. * Egil activates the Mechonis, and uses it to attack Bionis. Shulk defeats him before he can cause any real damage. Egil opens up the truth of Zanza and the Monado. Zanza takes the chance to ascend from Shulk's body, taking the Monado from Shulk, who he leaves for dead. In the end Zanza succeeds in destroying Egil, the Mechonis, and Meyneth, stealing Meyneth's Monado in the process. * Zanza plunges Prison Island into the Bionis' head, causing an ether event that transforms all pure-blooded High Entia into Telethia. Half-blooded survivors scatter to other settlements. * Shulk (not dead) and his team defeat Zanza's disciples before confronting him. * Shulk achieves godhood, receiving his own Monado from Alvis. * Zanza is defeated. At Shulk's decision, Alvis erases the world and creates a new one more in line with the physics and nature of the old world, with space and planets and saltwater oceans. === World of Alrest === {| class="wikitable" ! Time Period !! Event |- | Near the beginning of the world. || * Half of Klaus ends up in either a second new universe or the remains of the original universe, along with the Logos and Pneuma cores. This Klaus sees that all other life has vanished to at least one other universe, believes his experiment has failed, and takes on the role of the Architect, choosing to try and recreate life. * Klaus first creates a "special particulate substance with the ability to restore deteriorated matter" and uses it to take matter from Morytha. Inhabitants of Alrest come to know of this substance as the Cloud Sea. * Klaus then combines the Cloud Sea, Core Crystals, and the pair of Logos and Pneuma to create a new cycle of life. Creatures known as Titans live in the sea and bear life upon them. This life bonds with Core Crystals to form Blades. As Blades bond, their Core Crystals exchange information about themselves and the world to Logos and Pneuma, who evolve them and send back new code to create further evolved Blades. After many cycles, Blades transform into Titans more evolved than their parents, in turn forming further-evolved life and more Core Crystals. * The Conduit becomes silent after having been used in the experiment. |- | Many millennia later, when Amalthus is a small child. || * A young Amalthus and his mother are being chased by soldiers through a forest<!--do we know more about the soldiers?-->. Amalthus kills the soldier, and later on kills the baby, as he sees life on Alrest as a living hell and wants to spare the baby its suffering. * Minoth shortly finds Amalthus and is disgusted at this killing of the baby, leading him to part ways with Amalthus. |- | Afterwards, still 2 years before TTGC || * Amalthus climbs the world tree in order to meet the Architect. Stannif and Zettar are seen in Indol, presumably planning on establishing Tantal as a continuation of the Tornan royal line. |- | After Lora's group arrives at the camp. || * Amalthus attacks the refugee camp in Spessia. While it is also unspecified whether the same amount of time passed between each, it is more likely that they are aligned compared to the previous section. === Post-Conduit Bionis === ====Immediately==== * Shulk and the party celebrate a time of peace as the colonies rebuild. * Shulk develops his own variation of the Replica Monado, the Monado Replica EX. * About a year after the main game's ending, Shulk suggests ferrying Melia to the Bionis' Shoulder so they can investigate what has become of Alcamoth. They discover it has been taken over by an entity that locals call the Fog King, and manage to defeat it. In the process, Shulk upgrades his weapon into the Monado Replica EX+. They reclaim Alcamoth, and the Bionis' Shoulder inhabitants are invited to join other settlements. ====Future==== * Shulk finds the Ontos core on a beach. * Shulk and Fiora have a child, Nikol. * Reyn and Sharla have a child, Panacea. incomplete === Post-Conduit Alrest === * Rex has three children: Mio (with Nia), Glimmer (with Pyra), and an unnamed child with Mythra. * Zeke and Pandoria have a child, Linka. incomplete == Intersection == * It is discovered that the two worlds are approaching each other and will eventually collide, something which nothing good will come of. * Communications between the worlds are established. A plan is formed to defend against the Intersection. * The two worlds each construct half of an enormous ark, Origin. Origin will survive the Intersection and recreate the two worlds afterward, using its stored database of all things material and immaterial. The Bionis side of Origin is based on the discovered Ontos core. == World of Aionios == {| class="wikitable" ! Time Period !! Event |- | Intersection || * As the two worlds collide, their planned recreation does not complete. Instead, an entity called Z either freezes or drastically slows time as a new world is created in their place, called Aionios. |- | Post-Intersection || * Moebius, a faction created by Z, take control of Origin by having Melia be imprisoned. In the process, they design an endless war between two factions of continuous rebirth, Keves and Agnus, in order to feed themselves on life and death. A minority of people avoid being assimilated into these factions, and form the resistance movements of the Lost Numbers and the Liberators. * Nia chooses to seal herself in the Cloudkeep so Moebius can't find her. |- | Era of the Founders || * The first City is constructed. * During one of their cycles of meeting and dying, Noah and Mio have a child, Ghondor. * Upon Mio's and Noah's death, Z successfully coerces Noah into becoming Moebius. As a reward for becoming Consul N, Z also makes Mio into Consul M. * The Ontos core goes rogue. Without Logos and Pneuma to guide it, it decides to erase Aionios and start a new world, regardless of Origin's original plans. To do so, it takes control of Origin from Moebius. Shulk, Rex, and Z confront the new instantiation of Ontos, Alpha. They are unable to defeat him. * About a decade later, Na'el finds the Ontos core itself on a beach. It preys on her own feelings to align her to Alpha's cause. * Z becomes aware that Alpha is ready to take action in the City. He sends N to handle it. N attacks the City and tries to kill a Na'el possessed by Alpha, but Ghondor gets in his way, and kills him instead. In the process, Ghondor uses his Ouroboros power to cause a massive explosion of energy, helping destroy much of the City and seemingly causing A to be forked from Alpha. Matthew witnesses only the part where N kills Ghondor. * A finds a half dead Matthew and heals him to full health and began travelling together around Aionios to find City survivors and his sister Na'el. * The events of Future Redeemed take place. * With Alpha defeated, Shulk, Rex, and A believe they need to remove themselves from the world and take his place in order to keep Origin functional. Before doing so, they free Nikol and Glimmer from their ten-year lifespans. * Origin falls into the Cent-Omnia Region, obliterating it and forming a sea. * Moebius retakes control of Origin. * Matthew leaves the City to start a journey while Nikol and Riku improve the Ourboros Stone. |- | Era of the cycle || * M succeeds in changing the culture of Aionios to allow soldiers who live out their ten-year lives to die naturally, rather than be executed first. This becomes known as Homecoming. * The City is rebuilt as a mobile Ferronis-like structure. |- | Era of Ouroboros || * The events of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 take place. incomplete |- | The end of Aionios || * With Moebius defeated, Origin is able to do its work. Matter originating from the two worlds begins to harmlessly pull apart. * As the two worlds separate, there is a flash, and a third world becomes visible. The nature of this third world, whether it be a combination of the two, or something new entirely, is unclear. A blue streak of light descends from space, heading towards the newly created world. |} == Notes == <references/>
