Yelv (イエルヴ) is a recruitable character in Xenoblade Chronicles X. He can be recruited after completing the Affinity Mission named Meeting Yelv.
As a Reclaimer, his goal is the salvation and collection of White Whale fragments, with the ultimate goal of finding his long-lost partner.
Appearance and personality[edit]
Yelv has tanned skin and thick medium-length blond hair.
While Yelv initially seems threatening, putting on a show of force when he first meets Cross, his personality flips when he finds people that meet his standards. He tends to enjoy challenging Reclaimer missions since those will better help him find his partner.
Yelv tends to be rather fierce, with the other Reclaimers keeping their distance from him. Eleonora compares talking with him with walking through a minefield, but she understands that he's actually rather nice underneath. However, he feels that she's a bit too involved in his business.
Character Bio[edit]
Foul-mouthed and quick-tempered, Yelv isn't a conventional example of BLADE's finest—though he will open his heart to those he respects. He tends to hang out in the commercial district, and similar to the protagonist, has some issues with his memories of past events.
Battle Style[edit]
Yelv wields a fearsome photon saber, which he extols as the ultimate weapon. His unique style is based on the Blast Fencer class.
Story arc[edit]
Meeting Yelv[edit]
During Meeting Yelv, Yelv initially meets Cross while searching for BLADEs to be his partner. He sets up three different Missions for anyone who seems like a big shot, and then gets them to do them, making it seem like there'll be trouble for anyone who doesn't make it. Once Cross finally beats his missions, he becomes a lot friendlier and recognizes them as his work partner. He takes them to the BLADE Concourse to pick some jobs.
Ultimately, he picks a job to reclaim a piece of the White Whale that just showed up on FrontierNav. When they get there, they find that it's being picked apart by a group of Hermit Insidias. Yelv picks a fight with them and wins, but all he finds in the debris is some tissue samples. He reports this to Eleonora, who seems to know that Yelv is looking for something specific in the debris. She reveals she knows quite a lot about Yelv, while Yelv just wants her to give the reward money. He decides to celebrate his new partnership with a drink.

Yelv's Partner[edit]
Prior to the events of Yelv's Partner, Yelv and Cross find Yelv's partner's legs and arms, and upon starting this mission now need to find his body in order to find the original person. He gives four sets of coordinates to Eleonora, and she deduces that he's looking for his partner's body, even though nobody told her about him. Additionally, she's already deduced the location of the body, presumably having computed it beforehand.
At Eddie's Conquest, they find the remains of a Skell, and Yelv mistakes the Gale Milsaadi at the scene for his partner. After defeating the Milsaadi, Yelv looks in the remains and finds his partner's head and body, dead inside. He decides to move on and be strong as a Reclaimer, and looks to Cross as his new partner to help him find the rest of the White Whale wreckage.
That being said, Eleonora had indicated she knew more about Yelv than was previously imagined...
Chapter 12[edit]
Besides taking part of defending the Lifehold Core, Yelv is also present when Elma inspects the Lifehold Database Chamber.
