Biography[edit]

Yasuyuki Honne was born on the 5th of March, 1971 in the Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, Japan. As a kid he loved drawing and model-making, he also loved baseball and judo.[1] When he was studying in the third year at the Mikuni High School, he already knew he wanted to study art at the university. He graduated from high school in 1990.[1] During his life, a lot of teachers, encouraged him to keep studying art, stating that they absolutely believe he will succeed. He nearly joined the Tokyo University of the Arts, but refused because the acceptance rate was 1:60, so he instead joined the Osaka University of Arts because it was a hot topic, since rumours said its students usually find job at Nintendo, Shiseido, or Shūeisha.[1] He graduated from said University in 1994 with a Deisgn Department degree.[2] After graduating, Honne moved to Tokyo and saw a recruitment ad for Square in the magazine Gamest, with a picture of Final Fantasy VI. He sensed that an era was coming where Western-style paintings would be needed for video game production, so he applied to the job. There was around 500 competitors, but his portfolio got through and joined Square in May 1994. After working on Chrono Cross, he left Square in November 1999 to found Monolith Soft alongside Tetsuya Takahashi and Hirohide Sugiura, and became Director and General Manager of Graphics at Monolith Soft in December of the same year.[1]

In the present, Honne is married and enjoys creating playing cards, cooking,[3] judo (he is black belt),[4] creating instruments,[5] and traveling[6]
