Volitaris is a region floating above Mira in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. It is the "mothership" of Void and the Ganglion and serves as the final region of the game. After defeating Vita, Void scatters the party and their Skells throughout Volitaris. Unlike other regions, Volitaris has no Data Probes to install or a minimap as FrontierNav is offline, although the player can use a VR version of FrontierNav and still receive revenue from it. Additionally, there are six Spears of Samaar scattered throughout the region; activating them weakens Void. Purple crystals that recover Skell Fuel float all across Volitaris.

Geography[edit]

Volitaris, unlike the prior five continents of Mira, exists on a separate map from the rest of the game; it cannot be entered or exited normally and there are no weather patterns (the weather is permanently set to clear) or day and night cycle. The region consists of a large circular area surrounding the Tower of Eternity - a giant structure hovering above a dark abyss of purple, electric clouds - the lower half of which acts as the centre of the map. The rest of Volitaris is populated by numerous floating islands of various shapes and sizes; these islands are somewhat grassy, but semi-desertified, and are constructed of geometric mineral formations - as a result, Skell flight is a necessity in order to navigate Volitaris. At the bottom of the Tower of Eternity is an atoll-like island known as the Ochus Corridor that includes numerous landmarks, including Shabik's Branch, which is where Cross and Elma first awaken, Cebrai's Fork on the northern side, and the Lhague Suspension Bridge on the southern side, beneath which is also a small cave system.

North of the Tower of Eternity is the Lebra Fault Zone - a small island with holes leading to hollows in the north and south sides - and Ravaged Vargo - a much larger, tiered archipelago with several large, spiked platforms. Further east is Garius Airspace - a cluster of small islands centred around one larger one with a shielded tunnel - and Sierra Coripsus - two large islands connected via an "underground" tunnel. The latter is noteworthy for the large, nose-like holes in the southern half - aptly named "Yurgas's Nostrils" - which act as entrances to the "underground" area. In the northern island rests one of the Spears of Samaar - activating it leaves a similarly large hole in the ground, which can then be used as an alternative entrance to the caverns.

Southeast to the Tower of Eternity lies the Forbidden Quala, a large island consisting of both a flat plain with numerous petrified trees and a tall mountainous area. Within the island lies a large and intricate cave system with multiple hidden entrances that can be found (but not accessed) with Skells. All passages eventually lead to a large central chamber from which others can be chosen, leading to various different subsurface points, some of which contain lost party members or treasure boxes. The north and west passages specifically lead to Altaar's Breach, a ridge running along the islands north face leading to the activation point of a Spear of Samaar.

To the southwest is Boötis Reef, a grouping of large, boulder-like islands clustered around Arctoras's Axle, upon which can be found an alien container and another Spear of Samaar. Directly west of the Tower of Eternity is the Sacred Perses, a descending series of islands leading to a large, hollow one, the inside of which can be accessed by flying underneath the island into the cavity at the centre. Finally, directly south is a massive mountain through which runs an enormous cave which seems to function as the main entry point to Volitaris. At the mouth of this cave lies the White Whale 2, the bridge of which (as well as the shops and terminals contained within) can still be accessed.

Enemies[edit]

Volitaris non-boss enemies — which are all Ganglion-affiliated — are brightly coloured, typically with a molten gold pattern that also reflects the hue of their surroundings.

All ground weapon, Skell weapon, and Skell armor drops in Volitaris come with a maximum of two traits. In exchange, however, ground weapons and Skell weapons have a very rare chance (0.3% per gold drop) to come with four empty augment slots, and Skell armor has a rare chance (3% per gold drop) to come with two empty augment slots. There are no ground armor drops in Volitaris.

Party members[edit]

After defeating Vita, most of the party is locked as they were scattered all over Volitaris. Finding and talking to them re-adds them to the party. Those who are recruited are voiced, while those who weren't are not when reuniting with them.

All party members scattered across Volitaris are automatically unlocked and may rejoin the party after Void is defeated for the first time (although the player may only re-add them if they lose to the second phase).
