Unique monster (XC1)
- For other articles titled "Unique monster", see Unique monster (disambiguation).
Unique monsters are enemies in Xenoblade Chronicles and Future Connected that are typically larger and stronger than most other enemies, acting as optional non-story minibosses. They also have individual names and potentially arts that no other enemy does, and provide more rewards when defeated.
There are 157 Uniques in the game, some of which are quest-exclusive or superbosses, and others of which are missable if the area they reside become inaccessible. Uniques are more likely to only spawn at certain times or in certain weather conditions, and some spawn alongside a squad of normal enemies that all attack as one. Almost all Uniques are guaranteed to drop a gold chest, making them the best source of advanced arts manuals. Killing a Unique for the first time grants the party an Affinity Coin. Uniques can respawn after being killed, but only 30% of the time by default; the player may have to repeatedly skip travel or save/reload in order to get them to respawn. Some quests require killing a specific Unique, which can be made troublesome if they have already been defeated and must be forced to respawn, as the quest must have been accepted already for it to count towards its completion.
Uniques have a special border around their nametag. Unlike normal enemies, Uniques do not avoid the party if they are grossly outleveled; a level 5 Unique will happily attack a level 50 party when they are detected. When a Unique is in a battle (or unexpectedly joins), You Will Know Our Names plays.
Unique monsters reappear in Future Connected. Some enemies are a unique monster and Fogbeast simultaneously. Just like Fogbeasts, uniques drop Arts Coins instead of Affinity Coins which can be used to buy advanced arts manuals one-for-one at the Arts Manual Shop. Uniques do not drop anything in Time Attack mode in the Definitive Edition.
List of Uniques
Instead of Affinity Coins, Uniques in Future Connected drop Arts Coins, which can be used to buy advanced arts manuals one-for-one.
Some Uniques reappear in time attack challenges. As with all time attack enemies, they have altered stats to match the intended difficulty.
