Tyrant

From Xeno Series Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Tyrants are enemies in Xenoblade Chronicles X that are typically larger and stronger than most other enemies, acting as optional non-story minibosses. These enemies also have individual names and possibly arts that no other enemy does, and provide better rewards when defeated. They are the equivalent of unique monsters in other games.

There are 251 Tyrants in the game. In general, most Tyrants have a name with the format "(Name), the (Adjective)", although many Ganglion Mechanoid Tyrants will have special names. Ganglion Skells may have the owner of the Skell in its name, while others will have names describing their function in battle, like Enhanced Attack Range Zig.

When a Tyrant is defeated, the player is guaranteed a gold or a silver chest from the main body. Silver drops are guaranteed to have a Holofigure.

During most battles against Tyrants, the unique song Uncontrollable plays. However, some high-level Tyrants, like Lugalbanda, the Wanderer-King and Pharsis, the Everqueen, will use the third part of no10=CR17S19S8 instead.

Some enemy types only appear as Tyrants, like the Telethia, which use the second part of raTEoREkiSImeAra as a battle theme, and the Yggralith, which use the song In the forest <X→Z ver.> as a battle theme. Another monster that uses this battle theme is Phanatos, the Netherlord, a tyrant-like enemy that is only met during the Squad Mission The Awakening, and as such it is not listed in the in-game Enemy Index, even if it has its own unique Holofigure. Another type of unique enemies, the Global Nemesis, are even stronger than Tyrants, and can also only fought in Online Squad Missions; they consist of the two monsters Telethia Plume and Yggralith Zero.

Plot[edit]

According to Elma, "Tyrant" is the term for an indigenous lifeform that exists outside of the usual threat ranking system. These are the type of enemies are too powerful for BLADE to quantifiably measure in terms of danger. This danger can be raw strength, but sometimes nasty traits like abnormallly high HP, damage reflection, or heavy spike damage can lead to something becoming a tyrant.

During the events of Chapter 2, Elma and Lin explain Tyrants to Cross so they know what they're up against before they team up to fight Volkampf, the Pursuer as part of Cross's initial training.

Tyrant Crowns[edit]

While playing online, it is possible to see a crown over the name of a Tyrant. This crown indicates that the Tyrant defeated BLADEs (by wiping out the party) that fought it many times in the past, indicating that the Tyrant is very dangerous.

Wii U version[edit]

Defeating a Tyrant with a crown grants more Division Points.

The crown color changes depending on the number of times the Tyrant has defeated BLADEs and is retrieved server-side, meaning that the crowns will not appear if playing offline.

Crown Types and Division Points (Wii U) [1]
Crown Type Defeat requirements (International version) Defeat requirements (Japanese version) Division Points (Pathfinders, Reclaimers, Prospectors) Division Points (Outfitters, Mediators) Division Points (Interceptors, Curators) Division Points (Harriers)
No crown 0 or offline 0 or offline 30 60 90 150
Bronze 750 ~100[2] 36 72 108 180
Silver 16000 ~20000[3] 45 90 135 225
Golden 90000 ~50000[4] 60 120 180 300

Definitive Edition[edit]

Defeating a Tyrant with a crown increases the chance of getting more equipment drops when it is defeated, possibly guaranteeing a higher minimum number of drops. This also includes drops from tyrant Skell appendages, meaning that if Sharnaak's Seidr has a gold crown, its shoulder appendages will also drop more Skell weapons.

The crown color changes depending on the ratio of wins to the sum of wins and losses. A win is naturally awarded when the enemy is killed. A loss is instead awarded when the player-controlled character is incapacitated by an attack from the enemy - regardless of whether this results in the overall battle being lost. It's therefore possible to farm losses, helping to increase the crown's quality, by repeatedly dying and getting revived by computer-controlled party members.

All Tyrants are ranked according to their win-loss ratio and split into four equal groups based upon their ranking, determining their crown. The player must be online in order to get the extra drops.
