Idea stat

Idea stats are a set of stats in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Each Driver (whether they are a "normal" Driver or not) has four idea stats: Bravery, Truth, Compassion, and Justice. Increased idea stats increase the damage of corresponding elemental attacks and make the Driver more likely to pull Rare Blades of the same elements.

Idea stats are not in Torna ~ The Golden Country; they technically exist internally, but are modified to have no gameplay effect.

Overview[edit]

Each idea stat corresponds to a pair of the eight elements, indicated by the colour of their icon:

  • XC2 thought icon Bravery.png Bravery corresponds to fire and water.
  • XC2 thought icon Truth.png Truth corresponds to wind and ice.
  • XC2 thought icon Compassion.png Compassion corresponds to earth and lightning.
  • XC2 thought icon Justice.png Justice corresponds to light and dark.

The four stats are represented together in a Thought Cloud, a radar chart visible in the Character menu for the Driver and on the Blade Bonding screen.

Each stat varies from level 0 to level 10, although a Driver may have a nonzero default value. Boosters can be used when resonating with a Core Crystal to raise idea levels up to 15 for a single Core Crystal pull.

Effects[edit]

When a playable character inflicts damage with an elemental attribute, the damage is increased by an independent multiplier of (1 + 0.05 * IdeaLevel), thereby +5% damage per level.

When resonating with a Core Crystal, a Driver's idea stats influence the chance of summoning a Rare Blade. In the absence of boosters, whichever of the the Driver's idea levels are highest increases their chance of pulling a rare Blade with one of the corresponding two elements. Ties are broken by randomly selecting one idea from among those that are the Driver's highest.

If one or more Bravery Boosters, Truth Boosters, Compassion Boosters, or Justice Boosters are used, then the corresponding idea level increases by the number of respective boosters used, for this summon only. Moreover, using a booster causes the corresponding idea stat to be the one which increases Rare Blade likelihood, even if it is not the Driver's highest.

In either case, the chance of resonating with any Rare Blades of the affected elements is multiplied by (1 + 0.05 * IdeaLevel) (a +5% increase per level), to a maximum of x1.75 with an idea level of 15 (the natural limit of 10 plus 5 from boosters).

Raising idea stats[edit]

Idea stats are raised via obtaining Idea Points. The number of points required to reach each level is as follows:

Level Points (per level) Points (cumulative)
1 500 500
2 1000 1500
3 1500 3000
4 2500 5500
5 4500 10000
6 7000 17000
7 10000 27000
8 14000 41000
9 19000 60000
10 24000 84000

Defeating enemies[edit]

When the party defeats an enemy, all Drivers at most 5 levels above the enemy earn idea points for a random idea stat: 1 point for regular enemies, 3 points for unique monsters, and 6 points for bosses.

The Fishy Fishy Deeds, Reedirait Deeds, and Talmye Deeds each increase the above values by one; therefore, with all three deeds, 4 points are obtained for regular enemies, 6 for unique monsters, and 9 for bosses.

The idea stat the points are granted to from defeating enemies is random, but not uniformly so. Each relevant character has a varying probability for each stat.

Character Bravery Truth Compassion Justice
Rex 20% 40% 20% 20%
Nia 20% 20% 20% 40%
Zeke 20% 20% 40% 20%
Tora 40% 20% 20% 20%
Vandham 25% 25% 25% 25%
Mòrag 40% 40% 10% 10%
Jin[note 1] 10% 10% 40% 40%
Malos 25% 25% 25% 25%
  1. Applies to all three instances of playable/party member Jin.

Unlocking Affinity Chart nodes[edit]

When a node (including a Key Affinity node) is unlocked on a Blade's Affinity Chart, a certain number of idea points are awarded (between 100 and 800). The type of idea point granted is dependent upon the node; it is not limited to that corresponding to the Blade's element. The number of idea points granted is dependent upon how the Key Affinity Condition level of the node (equivalently the Trust required to unlock it):

Level (Trust) Rare or Legendary Blade Common Blade (Key Affinity) Common Blade (ordinary node)
1 (E rank) 100 0 0
2 (D rank) 200 200 150
3 (C rank) 300 300 225
4 (B rank) 500 300 375
5 (A rank) 800 500 500

Trust is granted to the Driver with whom the Blade is bonded. Master Driver does not override this, but Overdrive Protocols do.

Blades which can be freely equipped to any Driver (Poppibuster, Shulk, Fiora, and Elma) give points to whoever has equipped them at the time of the node unlocking. If no Driver has currently equipped them (e.g. due to the node being unlocked during a Merc Mission), all Drivers in the party (including Tora) receive the points.

NoponGro[edit]

Tora cannot bond with Blades normally, and therefore will not receive nearly as many idea points from affinity chart nodes. As an ad hoc compensation for this, certain items are available to him via the Archsage's Orderly Noponstone Exchange in the Land of Challenge. The following items are offered for 1 Noponstone each:

These can be used by going into the Characters menu, scrolling to Tora via ZL/ZR, and pressing Y. Each grants 1000 points to the corresponding idea stat.
