Kyomu no Hamabe (Across the Kosmos)

Kyomu no Hamabe (unofficially translated as The Beach of Nothingness) is Disc 2, Track 6 on the Xenosaga Original Soundtrack. It shares a melody with Inner Space, and the start of Omega contains a sequence of notes similar to the main melody of this piece.

It plays in the flashback after Gargoyle is defeated, when Margulis talks to Cherenkov about their organisation's view of humanity.

The Beach of Nothingness <New Recording> is Disc 1, Track 10 on the Xenosaga Episode I album. ('The Beach of Nothingness <New Recording>' is an unofficial translation, as seen in the VGMdb listing of the album.) It is a version of Kyomu no Hamabe played with a more legato cello line.

Official translation

After a short introduction, the piano reproduces the string accompaniment of the original piece. A moment later, I play the melody in high arpeggios to give it some contrast, then develop and repeat it modulated until that quiet piece loses itself in a torrent. It eventually settles down and goes back to the original mood.

短いイントロで始まり、弦楽器の重奏をピアノで再現しています。 アルペジオがやがて高い音に上行し、メロディーラインを立体的に表現しました。その後展開をし転調を繰り返して、空虚感から一気に激流に呑まれ、 再び元の雰囲気に収まり曲を閉じます。
