Tatsu (タツ) is a character in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Despite being a party member, he is not playable.

This Nopon, constantly compared to a potato, is a member of the Dodonga Caravan. He acts as a representative for the Nopon and a good source of intel about the planet of Mira. Additionally, he provides the Follow Ball, an object that can help guide people to their destination.

Appearance and personality[edit]

Tatsu is a Nopon with fur in varying colors of orange, with a dark-colored, star-shaped parch of fur on his belly and a swirl of hair sticking out of his coat. His outfit consists of swirly glasses, a turquoise coat and a large backpack with two hammers sticking out of it. He has been described as looking like a vegetable, likely due to the shape of the top of his coat.

Forging BLADE[edit]

Prior to the arrival of humans on Mira, Tatsu and his melon-shaped companion Ron were on a mission for the Dodonga Caravan to collect goods to turn a profit. However, the two are ambushed by a massive Tectinsula. Tatsu and Ron get separated while running from the monster, with Ron escaping, never to be seen by the caravan again. Meanwhile, Tatsu runs from the Tectinsula, until he triggers a trap that roasts it.

Somehow, Tatsu manages to eat the Tectinsula whole. However, this action causes the Prone to notice him and make a move to capture him. He runs back, managing to make it back to the Dodonga Caravan base. However, he finds the caravan empty and the tents torched. The Prone catch him, tie him up, and toss him into a basket. While they head to their base, Tatsu notices a shooting star and makes a wish to not get eaten by the Prone, but instead by a pretty girl. This "shooting star" would turn out to be the White Whale.

Chapter 3[edit]

After Elma's team defeat Glennar, the Prone captain that murdered Nelson and his team, they intend on leaving, but Tatsu calls out for help. He gets himself free and explains that the Prone have endangered the Nopon. After some convincing, the group agree to bring him into New Los Angeles. He provides the team with a Follow Ball, then they take him to the BLADE Barracks for questioning.

Lore[edit]

  • According to Lao's Heart-to-Heart The Winds of Change, Tatsu ate a large amount of cranjelly sometime while he was kidnapped, making his skin all slippery and causing him to slip out of Prone hands when they tried to eat him. This explains why he was never eaten by the Prone.

In Xenoblade Chronicles 2[edit]

Main article: Tatsu (XC2)

Tatsu appears in the Challenge Battle This Year's Heropon during wave 8. His fur is pink instead of orange in this game.
