Spirit Crucible Elpys is an area in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It is a series of caverns inside the main Titan of the Leftherian Archipelago, accessed right under Fonsett Island, with little ether flow due to particles absorbing it. Due to the scarce ether flow, Blades are weakened, which shows in both story and gameplay.

Geography[edit]
Spirit Crucible Elpys is located within the central Titan of Leftheria. Its main entrance is on the outskirts of Fonsett Village, and the door will only open to Leftherians, much like the seal on the Ancient Vessel. The Spirit Crucible itself is comprised of various dimly lit caverns, and notable ancient Tornan architecture at various points. As the cave gets deeper, the ether flow becomes more and more restricted, limiting the combat potential of Blades, whom primarily draw their ether supply from the atmosphere. While the original purpose of the Spirit Crucible is not known, it had been repurposed by Addam to house the third Aegis Sword, and test the resolve of Mythra's eventual true Driver, an honor Addam felt unworthy of. Both by the aforementioned seal, and a later seal that none before Rex had passed; enormous green crystals blocking a cavern that went deeper into the cave.

Regional effects[edit]
There are three zones within the area that provide stat modifiers while fighting within.
- Zone 1 is the entrance of the area.
- Zone 2 begins after Bone Road.
- Zone 3 begins after Grave Robbers' Haunt.
The effects include:
- Capping affinity at a certain value, so it cannot be raised to the maximum.
- Capping the maximum special level that can be used, both in and out of chain attacks.
- Changing how much damage each Driver deals and takes.

The following Drivers are in each group, based on their own race and personal situation:
- Group A - Rex, Nia, Zeke, Jin
- Group B - Mòrag, Vandham
- Group C - Tora, Malos
Regardless of the above, some Blades are unaffected by the affinity and special caps. Broadly, they form three groups: Blades attached to Tora, Artificial Blades, and Blades who are actually cameo characters from Challenge Battle Mode.
