Solaris is an area in Xenogears. The party travels here at the end of Disc 1.

Story

The party heads to Solaris near the end of Disc 1. Having destroyed the 3 Gates on the surface that hide it, Solaris appears. Using the power of Maria's gear Seibzehn, the party is able to make their way into Solaris and soon split up, with Fei, Elly and Citan breaking off from the rest of the party. Fei quickly becomes separated himself from Citan and Elly. He is accidentally transported to one of the third class areas of Solaris and meets Samson, a man who looks very similar to his deceased friend Timothy. Samson hopes to make his way past a security gate, but in trying to do so is vaporized. Fei eventually runs into Elly in this area and the two are able to make it through the security gate due to her identification, although Elly questions why it wasn't deactivated with her defection from Gebler.

Fei and Elly make their way to a second class area within Solaris, Arbot Plaza. The plaza is filled with a variety of stores and soon a speech is made by Emperor Cain. During the speech Krelian also reveals himself and Fei realizes he recognizes him. A flashbacks with Lacan and Krelian from 500 years ago plays. Krelian announces that all the other party members with the exception of Citan have been captured. Fei panics at this and is soon spotted by a Security Cube. He and Elly are forced to flee through underground sewers, eventually making it to Elly's House in the first class area. Inside they see Elly's mother and spend some time together in Elly's room. Seeking to find the location of the others, they break into a computer in Elly's father's room, but he catches them in the act. Fei splits off from Elly and makes his way back to Arbot Plaza, although without Elly there he can't understand anyone. He heads back to the third class area and runs into Citan along the way.

Fei and Citan head to a trash area which contains a passage through to the Soylent System. Elly soon appears, revealing that her father let her go, although he was seized by the Solaris military for refusing to hand her over. The three of them make their way through the trash area into the Soylent System. Along the way they find some food which Fei and Elly consume, but Citan holds off on. A few rooms later they realize that what they ate was the remains of Wels which were acted upon as experiment subjects and then turned into food. The three continue their way into Krelian's Lab.

Krelian's Lab is a vast labyrinth of research and experiments. Landmarks found along the way include:

• Several rooms full of experiment subjects held in caves that will attack the party if released
• A giant room where the Omnigear Opiomorph lays encased in water
• A room containing holograms and information about each of the party members
• A room revealing that the memory cube data is transmitted directly to Solaris
• Rooms that are later revealed to be where Fei was experimented on as a child

Eventually Elly questions Citan due to the long length of their journey and the fact that he was able to open a security door which few should have access to. The lights immediately go out and both Fei and Elly are held captive. Citan's true role as a Solaris Guardian Angel watching over Fei is revealed, as is the Gazel Ministry's desire to resurrect God. Citan purposely instigates Fei such that Id will appear and he can directly communicate with him. Meanwhile Krelian holds Elly in his own personal laboratory and Ramsus briefly comes in while he was away. It is eventually revealed that Citan is a double agent, and that he truly is on the party's side, having brought them here to remove the rest of their limiters. Citan briefly heads off along with Jessie to destroy the final Gate contained within Solaris. The party makes their escape, with Hammer being able to bring along Elly's parents.

Just before leaving Solaris however, Hammer reveals that he has betrayed the party and tries to take back Elly at gunpoint. Elly's mother Medena steps in the way and Hammer kills her before fleeing. The party is then confronted by Grahf and Miang, disguised as the Executioner. Miang kills Elly's father when he tries to intervene. Under great anguish from Miang's powers, Fei turns into Id in front of everyone. Weltall transforms into Weltall-Id while on the Yggdrasil then makes it way to Solaris. The party is able to escape just in time as Id destroys Solaris. However the key parties from Solaris including Krelian, Miang, Emperor Cain, the Gazel Ministry and Ramsus have all departed by that time.

Geography

Solaris is a large aerial country located over the ocean. It appears northeast of Aquvy and southwest of Ignas. It is hidden from view by 3 Gates located on the surface, located near Nisan, under the Ethos Headquarters and in the Sargasso.
