Shelley Godwin (シェリィ・ゴドウィン) is a supporting character in the Xenosaga series. She is an aide to Gaignun and also assists Jr.. She is the elder sister of Mary Godwin.

Appearance and personality

Shelley is a woman with long purple hair with flower hairpins on each side and purple eyes. In Episode I, Shelley wears purple sleeves, a violet skirted corset, and high leg stockings with black shoes with flower decorations. In Episode II and Episode III, Shelley wears a purple dress that splits from the bottom, with purple sleeves and black boots.

Unlike her younger sister, Shelley doesn't show much emotion, although she still cares about the crew of the Durandal.

Story arc

History

Shelley and Mary were once owned by a pharmaceutical company and used as a guinea pig along with other people and were often heavily drugged. She was rescued along with her younger sister Mary by Gaignun Kukai and has resided in the Kukai Foundation since then. Soon after, the sisters adopted the Godwin surname at that time.

Episode I

Shelley acts as an aide to Gaignun Kukai, the chairman of the Kukai Foundation. She is also a close associate with Jr.. She first appears in the game when Jr. is investigating a defeated U-TIC Battleship, assisting from the Durandal bridge. Throughout the rest of the game she provides support to Jr. and the others. When the U-TIC Organization frames the Kukai Foundation for the destruction of the Woglinde, she, alongside her sister were arrested by the Federation. However the officer in charge, Lapis Roman, is an agent of Helmer's and arranges for Gaignun to be able to speak with him. She, along with her sister is eventually freed once Shion and the others are able to find evidence of their innocence within KOS-MOS' Encephalon. When the Gnosis attacks the Kukai Foundation due to the Song of Nephilim, Shelley gives the evacuation order into the Durandal, while the party goes down in the surface to assist in the evacuation.

Episode II

Shelley accompanies Gaignun and Mary when they visit Helmer at the Second Miltia government offices. Shelley later brings MOMO by to Helmer and Gaignun. At the U.M.N. Control Center, she leads MOMO to the analysis room where they prepare to examine the Y-Data. She appears along with Mary when the Durandal arrives to help the Elsa as it escapes from the Ormus Stronghold. She claims they were sent by Gaignun as something reckless would happen if Jr. handled everything. Once Jr. and the others are on board she tells them about the Immigrant Fleet making its way down to Old Miltia. She later appears on the Durandal bridge when Dmitri Yuriev reveals himself to Jr. and the others.

She was once part of a group of people, who were illegally "owned" by a pharmaceutical company that used them as guinea pigs. Twelve years ago, Gaignun rescued her along with Mary, and she has made her home in the Foundation ever since.

Her full name is Shelley Godwin.

A mutant born through Life Recycling. Secretary to Gaignun Kukai and the Durandal’s Operator.

She administrates the workings of the ship according to Jr.’s orders. An intelligent woman with cool-headed and precise judgment. Practically a sister to Mary, who shares her origins. She is able to communicate telepathically with Mary via interlink.

Originally an illegal test subject at a pharmaceutical company, she and Mary now reside with the Kukai Foundation after being taken in by Gaignun.
