Segment Address

The Segment Addresses is a feature of all 3 Xenosaga games. They are a series of locked red doors located across the world that require a specific decoder to be found to unlock. The Segment Files are used to record discovered Segment Addresses, decorders and other information.

Description

Most Segment Addresses appear as a locked red door with a yellow ring in the center. There are reports of gold Segment Addresses, but due to the scarcity of the reports, not much is known about them. They are the result of a programming glitch in the nanomachines used in construction. The Cunningham Company, the largest nanomachine manufacturer denied its claim that their nanomachines are responsible for their creation.

Episode I

While on the Woglinde, Shion runs into a soldier named Sergeant Swaine. Swaine explains that there is a bug involving a nanomachine core used for building and construction which is responsible for the creation of a variety of sealed doors across the world. He provides Shion with the Segment File which can be used to track them. Swaine is later killed during the Gnosis attack and provides her one of the decoders that can be used to open one of the doors.

Episode III

Shion receives the Segment File from Theodore on Fifth Jerusalem near the Mobius Hotel after destroying some crates for him. If the player successfully opens all 15 Segment Address doors, they will receive the item KOS-MOS's Swimsuit. The player can check the current status of the Segment Address on the Segment File menu.

Normally, they can be identified by their locked, red doors. In recent years, segments with gold doors have also been sighted. However, due to the scarcity of reports, much is still unknown about segments.

Additionally, the Cunningham Company--the largest manufacturer of construction nanomachines in the star cluster--completely denies that its nanomachines are creating segments.

An item known as a ""segment file"" exists which can record the locations of discovered segment addresses, a list of obtained decoders, and other information.

It's said that there are now hundreds of segment hunter hobbyists throughout the star cluster. For these people segment files are indispensable items.

It's widely held that the segment file was invented by a soldier on Michtam named Neil Swaine.

Segment addresses are created by construction nanomachines. Decoders distribute repair nanomachines that release the locks on the door-like structures that mark segment addresses.
