Sean McCallum is a supporting character in Xenosaga: Pied Piper. He is the uncle and boss of Jan Sauer.

Story arc

McCallum worked as the Chief of Police at Archon. After an attempted rescue of Goodwill Ambassadors that results in many of their deaths, he talks with Jan, ordering him to go through the dive logs hoping the suspected perpetrator, Voyager, left evidence behind. Later, fearing the threat of Voyager, Jan proposes to McCallum that all U.M.N. activity be suspended, but McCallum refuses, saying the risk is too great, and the U.M.N. is too indispensable. He reluctantly agrees to provide Jan's proposal to his superiors but expects it to be rejected. He requests Jan hand the case investigating Voyager off to other investigators and instead act as security for a party being held by the Immigrant Fleet.

Later in the game, in a vision McCallum appears to Jan, asking him if he still feels proud of his father. He says his father was a brave man, but he protected people at the expense of his family's happiness. He says he wishes his father had been more of a cowardly person. When Jan decides to marry Sharon, he delivers the news to McCallum.

McCallum eventually freezes the investigation of Voyager, telling Jan that it is a direct order from his director. While he recognizes this is due to political pressure, with no proof he is unable to help Jan any further. Jan tells him he believes Dmitri Yuriev to be behind this, but McCallum keeps the case frozen. After Jan leaves a man named Gary who works for Yuriev comes into his office and confronts him. Under false charges of terrorism, McCallum is held under arrest. Jan and his colleagues are also arrested but are able to escape. On the way out Jan heads to where McCallum is being held and finds him mortally wounded. McCallum tells him to forget about him and escape. He tells Jan he has become a true legacy of his parents and passes away.

Chief of the Federation Police Special Ops.

Chief of the Federation Police 1875th Special Ops Command. He displays absolute obedience to orders given from above. A fundamentally stubborn man, but also thorough in his consideration for his subordinates.

Especially in regards to Jan Sauer—perhaps, because he once worked under Jan’s father, he displays a level of understanding comparable to an adoptive father.
