Script of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - Torna ~ The Golden Country

From Xeno Series Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Torna ~ The Golden Country is the prequel DLC of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It takes place in the "500 years ago" period much-referenced in the main game. It is assumed that the reader is familiar with all characters, concepts, and events of Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

This page is divided into sections based on the Events Theater. Scenes not in the Events Theater (such as story quests or unvoiced dialogue) are shown as italic headers and given unofficial titles.

Stinks Like Blood[edit]

The scene opens high in the sky, where only clouds can be seen. The style is that of an animated storybook, sepia-toned with several layers occluding each other. Jin provides the opening narration.
Jin
The year was 3564.[1]
The 107th Indoline Praetor, Rhadallis...
had sent an armed expedition against the country of Coeia.
Its capital, Omrantha, fell overnight...
A Titan ship is visible, passing through the clouds.
Jin
and sank beneath the clouds, along with the rest of the Titan.
On ground below, war is fought, with both infantry and Titan forces.
Jin
The destruction of Coeia shocked all the nations of Alrest...
Officially, the act was attributed...
to a military alliance led chiefly by Indol...
and the emerging power of Mor Ardain.
In fact, it had been the work of one Blade.
A dark sphere appears in the air.
Jin
The Aegis,
a man known as Malos,
The sphere strikes the ground, causing destruction where it lands.
Jin
said to be the Architect's word incarnate.
As the scene pulls out and up, other spheres of destruction are visible in the background.
Jin
Back then, neither Lora nor myself knew...
how closely his fate...
would prove to be tied with ours in the days to come...
A monster of the heavens is visible in the air: bipedal, with horns, four wings, an ornate jewel on its necklace, and two bone-like protrusions floating in front of it. The storybook look fades to be replaced with reality, showing that this is an artist's best guess at trying to depict Malos's black Siren as a creature. Malos stands in the cockpit inside, fully intact and ready for action.
Malos
You're that eager to die?
Then allow me to assist!
The dark Siren fires its primary laser. It cuts through a Titan with a large building on its back like butter. Explosions cover its surface as it falls into the Cloud Sea.
In a woodland somewhere, Lora and Jin are running from a pack of Volff.
Encountering a Feris in front of them, the pair decide to hold and fight. Lora turns and throws back a length of rope to grab a Volff, pull it in, and kick it into a tree. While Jin fights the beasts with his sword, Lora fights unarmed. At one moment, Jin passes his sword to her and she fends off the creatures with it, before immediately handing it back to him. They then continue running.
Jin
There's no...end to them!
Lora
And it's not just the Volff and Feris...
Even the Buloofo's caught up in it!
The two reach a dead end, a rocky cliff face. They turn back to the approaching mob.
Jin
Lora, can you smell it?
Lora
Yeugh! It stinks like-
The big Buloofo arrives, shaking the ground as it walks.
Jin
Yeah, no doubt about it. Blood.
It's driving them crazy.
The two stand their ground.

Ties That Bind[edit]

The fight is still going on. Lora gets rid of a Volff with Jin's sword, then throws it back to him. While he's catching it, another Volff leaps at her from behind.
Jin
Lora!
The Volff is on her, but she's got its jaw lodged on her Battle Braid. Jin arrives and blasts it away, then sends a swarm of icicles at the rest. The woods are finally quiet. Jin helps his Driver up.
Lora
Thank you, Jin.
Jin
Well...
We've got room for improvement...
Lora
Of what?
Jin
This fighting style. It magnifies our strength, sure, but it leaves us wide open...
When the sword is in my hand,
you're left defenseless.
Lora
What, you won't keep me safe?
Jin goes "Uh?".
Lora walks up and holds his cheek.
Lora
"I'll keep you safe, always!"
Jin has a flashback to the moment she's quoting - his awakening, when he first took her hand.
Jin
I'll keep you safe, always...
He gently takes her hand and pulls it down.
Jin
(surprised and amused)
You...
You still remember that?
Lora
I've thought about it...every day for these 17 years.
I'll never forget it. The day you set me free from a life of misery.
Jin
I see.
The two smile at each other for a moment, then start to proceed through the Lasaria Woodland.

Mikhail[edit]

Jin and Lora shortly reach a village that has been burned to the ground; no buildings are left and the trees are all dead. In the middle of the wreckage is a boy - the young Mikhail. He's just kinda standing there, staring into the ground, sad.
Lora
What happened? Are you alone?
Jin
(sour)
Looks like the only survivor.
These burn patterns don't look like Malos's handiwork.
Must've been humans...
Looting and pillaging while the world burns.
Lora
Hey, it's okay. Would you like to come with us?
You don't have to worry, really. We're all good people, promise.
Mikhail doesn't say a word, but he does look up. Jin kneels down.
Jin
Can you walk?
Mik nods.
Jin
You can. Good going.
Jin pats him on the head, gets up, and guides him forward.
The three walk away from the destroyed village and stop shortly outside it.
Lora
And...your family?
Were they there with you? Should we go back and...
Mikhail
Mikhail...
Lora goes "Hm?".
Mikhail
My name is...Mikhail.
Lora
Oh! Right. I'm Lora.
And he's...
Mikhail
I don't have a family.
I was sold to this village. From Estham. So... I'm all alone.
Lora
I see...
She thinks it over.
Lora
(a bit too enthusiastic)
Right, then! Starting today, we're going to be your new family!
We'll take you back to our friends, and...
Mikhail
You people? You're strangers. You don't have to pretend to care.
Lora
Er...? Ahaha...ha...
You don't beat around the bush, do you?
Lora
He's gonna be a handful, this one.
Though, really...I was just the same once...
Lora
Very well. Friends first then, not family. How's that sound?
Mik is still cagey, but he doesn't immediately reject it.
Jin
Lora.
Lora
Huh? What's up?
Jin
I'll scout the area. Look after him.
Lora
Oh, of course. Be careful...
And, Jin...
Jin
I know.
Jin puts on his mask before he sets off.
The scene moves to Indol. The current Praetor, Rhadallis, sits at his desk.
Rhadallis
What was that you said, Baltrich?
This Baltrich, presumably of some lower rank, stands before him.
Baltrich
The Coeian capital of Omrantha has fallen...
Ah, rather, it was annihilated, Praetor Rhadallis.
Rhadallis
So it has come to pass after all...
Baltrich
...Respectfully, you aren't much of an actor, Eminence.
It appears you are not surprised at all?
There's no response.
Baltrich
We heard disturbing rumors circling among the Magisters.
Amalthus...whom you recently elevated to Quaestor...
People wonder if this calamity has anything to do with that man's Blade...
With such extraordinary power, is it really wise to, er...
Rhadallis raises his hand.
Rhadallis
No matter whose power effected it,
it is sure to serve the greater glory of Indol.
The Architect...will surely be pleased.
Baltrich
Eminence... Do you believe it can be controlled?
Rhadallis
If it cannot... I will let him take the blame.
I have...
spoken.
Thank you for your report, Magister Baltrich. You may return to your duties.
Baltrich hmms a bit, not entirely satisfied with this, but he does bow and leave.

Gathering Ingredients[edit]

The group stands at a lit campfire not far from the ruined village.
Lora
This looks like a good spot to set up camp.
Jin
Yeah. I'll start preparing the food.
Lora
Oh wow, you're a star, Jin. What do you reckon you'll make?
Jin
Let's see, now... I should be able to get my hands on a few choice ingredients around here.
If we can find some Tornan Trout, Deviled Onions and Sour Avocados, I could stew them together...
You like Trout Stralu, right?
Lora
It's absolutely divine! You'll join us for a bite to eat, won't you, Mikhail?
Mikhail
...I guess.
Lora
Perfect! Then let's set to work and hunt for those ingredients!
Jin
All three of those things should be easy to come by around here. No need to travel off the beaten path.

A Spot of Camping[edit]

It's now evening. The trio sit around the campfire.
Lora
Right, we've got our ingredients, fire's nice and toasty... I think we're all set for the night!
Jin, would you mind making a start on the cooking?
Jin
I'll get right to it.
Mikhail
...The Blade's doing the cooking?
Jin
Got a problem with that?
Mikhail
...
Lora
Better Jin than me. If I were in charge, I'd probably end up losing a limb peeling the veggies!
Jin
It's not all one-sided, though. Lora has her own talents. Like making charms. That, I could never do.
Lora
Right! We make up for each other's strengths and weaknesses.
Blade or Driver, no one has to shoulder all the burden.
Mikhail
Huh.
Jin
Okay, I'm going to make a start on the Trout Stralu. It won't take long.

A Brief Respite[edit]

Mikhail is lying down now. Lora and Jin seem to believe he's asleep.
Lora
How sad... That village, I mean.
She recalls the devastation.
Jin
It is.
Lora
That Blade, Malos...
He didn't do that, did he?
Jin
The towns razed by the Aegis were completely obliterated...
I plan to inform the mercenaries of this.
Lora
How could a person do something so awful...?
Jin
Anyway. You should rest now. We should be able to meet up with Haze tomorrow.
Lora
(excited)
Ooh, yes!
I wonder if she's found any leads on Mother. I hope so, anyway.
Jin
I'll prepare food, then rest up.
Lora
Oh, that's kind of you...
Thanks...
They smile at each other. Jin gets up to do his work. Lora also gets up, though instead of following what she does, the camera follows the fire's embers up into the sky.

The Next Morning[edit]

It's morning and everyone's readying to leave. Mikhail is still uncomfortable, off to the side not looking at anyone.
Lora
Mmm, that really hit the spot!
You know, I really can't think of anything better than waking up to Jin's cooking. Scrumptious!
Mikhail
...
Jin
You scarfed that down quick.
Mikhail
Uh...!
Jin
Want seconds?
Mikhail scurries over and hides behind Lora.
Mikhail
...
Lora
Mikhail, relax. He's not gonna bite you.
Don't let the whole moody thing fool you. He's genuinely concerned about you.
Jin
"Moody thing"...?
Lora
Look, if there's anything you need, just tell us, all right?
Mikhail
Nu-uh, I'm fine. Really.
Lora
OK, I hear you.
Listen, I know Jin can seem a bit scary, but he's really very gentle. You'll get used to him.
Mikhail nods a bit too quickly.
Jin
...
I just need to clean up here, then we can move out.
Lora
Feltley can't be far now, can it? Where we're meeting up with Haze.
Jin
That's right. There's still a way to go, but if we keep to the road, it won't take long.

Hallmark of the Aegis[edit]

The trio approaches what looks to be a village entrance. But something is off; no one is around, and some of the surrounding rock is oddly dark.
Lora
Looks like...Haze isn't here yet...
They reach the entrance and realize something is wrong. They run in for a better look.
Lora
What the...
There's a huge crater in the landscape, like a meteor struck the village and replaced it with an empty dome of black stone.
Lora
This is... This should be the village of Feltley.
Jin kneels down for a moment to investigate the rock.
Jin
It's almost like glass...
Rumor among the mercs says that's... the hallmark of the Aegis.
Lora
But why would he do this?
Jin urgently spots something in the sky. A Malos-colored Artifice, smaller than Siren with more of a compact build, descends on them.
Jin
Look out!
He pulls Lora down and away from the incoming claw swipe attack. He takes some of the blow himself, knocking his mask off. Mikhail stumbles away as Lora and Jin tumble into the crater.
Lora
Jin?!
The Artifice, a Gargoyle, lands in the crater beside them.
Jin
It's nothing. Let's go!
The two ready to fight the machine.

The Emblem of Torna[edit]

The duo have knocked down the giant robot, but it gets right back up.
Lora
This...is no normal monster.
Jin
Not an Ardainian Titan weapon, either...
Lora
Maybe it's Malos's?
The Artifice holds out its palm and charges energy in it.
Mythra
(offscreen)
Get down, you two!
Jin and Lora both give confused gasps as they see a bright laser come down from the sky. They dodge roll away and Jin raises his barrier as it blasts the Gargoyle into nothingness. Lora is flabbergasted.
Lora
Holy...
Mythra casually walks through the resulting cloud of dust.
Mythra
That was a close one!
There's a guy in a hood with her. It's Addam.
Addam
It looks like Malos's Artifices are still roaming around.
Lora
So it was...
Completely out of the dust, Addam and Mythra get a good look at Jin and Lora.
Addam
Hey...
Wait a minute...
Addam seems to have recognized the maskless Jin.
He takes his hood off, followed by his cloak. Lora sees the design on his armor and gasps.
Lora
The emblem of Torna!
Addam
(in a good mood)
You are...
Jin! Right?
Wow... I can't believe it!
I came all the way out here and who do I save but the Paragon of Torna and his Driver!
Lora is expecting trouble.
Addam
You're so young...
That Core Crystal was stolen 17 years ago.
Quite a feat to pull off that heist at that age!
Lora
Are you going to arrest us? Execute us?
Addam
(not at all unfriendly)
I don't know yet.
I did just save you, after all.
Lora
(rather unfriendly)
Oh, how magnanimous.
Jin
Lora. There's no point in talking.
They ready to defend themselves. Mythra advances, looking much more smug than in the base game.
Mythra
Have it your way.
She pulls her sword out and dashes at them. Jin does the same, and the two clash.

A Momentous Occasion[edit]

Lora throws her braid torward Addam. He expects it to hit him, but she instead uses it to latch his sword. Jin jumps at him, so Mythra backs him up by counter-jumping. Unexpectedly, Jin throws his sword down to Lora as he blocks Mythra's attack, confusing her. Lora takes the sword and swipes at Addam before quickly passing to Jin to press the attack.
Mythra
(frustrated)
The hell ARE these two?
They continue to confound Addam and Mythra with their fighting style.
Mythra
They're just a Driver and Blade, where's this strength coming from?
Addam
Well, he IS the Paragon of Torna.
Jin
Hrh... I've had enough.
Jin starts to focus his ice powers.
Lora
What? No!
There's no need for you to-
Jin goes "AAAH!" as he shoots his storm of icicles at Addam. Mythra answers with a "Ngh-!" as she calls Siren to vaporize the projectiles before they hit, which is way overkill for the situation but it's what she decided to do. It takes a moment for the light and steam to clear the battlefield. Addam puts away his sword and walks forward with a smile.
Addam
You!
Lora
(guarded)
What?
Addam
Incredible! You... Both of you!
Lora
Huh?
Lora and Jin look at each other, baffled over why Addam's being all buddy-buddy with people he was just trying to arrest. Mythra on the other hand has an expression of "oh boy there he goes again".
Addam
That last attack? The force behind it was absurd! I'm amazed.
Lora
(awkwardly)
Oh, ah, really...?
Well, that's just...
Ahaha...
Addam
Oh, and... Passing the weapon...?
What a concept!
How did you ever come up with THAT idea?[2]
Lora
Oh, well...
Addam waits for the answer like an excited kid. Lora is embarrassed.
Lora
We were broke.
Addam
Huh?
Lora
We couldn't afford meals, let alone another sword.
And so we made do.
Addam and Mythra are shocked. Jin facepalms. After a moment to get over it, Addam has a good laugh.
Addam
You're kidding?!
Lora gives a "Hmph." of indignation.
Addam
Oh, man. You guys are the best.
I haven't laughed this hard in ages.
Lora
(wait, is he serious)
Huh?
Addam
I really, REALLY like you two.
Lora
Uhh...
They're interrupted by the arrival of two others, hurrying past the tree Mikhail is still hiding behind. One is Haze, while the other is a Gormotti boy.
Boy
Master Addam! Sir!
He waves from the rim of the crater.
Addam
The two come down into the crater. Milton runs up to hug Addam around the waist.
Milton
Oh, thank goodness you're all right!
Master Addam, are you hurt at all?
Lora
Master...Addam...?
You can't be THE Addam Origo?!
Jin
The lord of Aletta... And fourth in line to the throne of Torna.
Mythra
Oh come on, Milton.
I've been with him the whole time. You really think these two would cause any harm?
Milton
(not impressed)
You've been using your dumb Artifice again, haven't you?
Mythra
Dumb?!
Milton
So yeah, sure, nothing to worry about, right?
Mythra is riled up. Addam has to put up a hand for her to stay back.
Addam
Milton. Who's this, then?
Milton
Ah, this is Haze.
She rescued me from the jaws of some nasty monsters.
Haze puts on her best cute smile.
Addam
Well, I'd better give her my thanks.
Lora
Haze!
Addam
Oh? Was she with you?
Haze
I'm sorry to keep you waiting, my lady.
The scene advances to evening. Everyone is now camped out near the crater. It seems that Lora has been telling Addam's side her story.
Addam
(starting to cry)
I see... So that's when...
What a sad, sad tale, Lora...
The script has a hidden note here that reads "adlib weeping at sadness of tale", and that's certainly what he does. Milton is unimpressed; Addam must have a lot of empathy for these things.
Milton
Oh, here we go again...
He hands Addam a handkerchief, who takes it without a word. Mikhail is watching expressionlessly.
Milton
Don't let it get cold, now.
Milton holds out a bowl of supper to Mik. He takes it with some skepticism. Addam has stopped crying.
Addam
So then, how come you've enlisted with a band of mercenaries?
Lora
I guess I like the freedom.
This way I'm not tied down, so I can help out with causes I really believe in, you know?
Going's tough everywhere you look these days, right? I can't ignore it, can I?
Addam
I understand.
Mythra
(completely uncaring)
Fat load of good that'll do in the long run. The world keeps turning anyway.
Jin
You might think that.
But mercenaries and statesmen each have their own views and ways to effect change.
It's not in vain.
Mythra
Huh. A Blade siding with humans... You don't see that every day.
Jin
I think it's Blades like you that are rare.
Mythra
(the smuggest of smug)
Well, duh! You do know what I am, right?
Jin
(completely straight)
Lacking in compassion.
Mythra makes a "Huh?!" halfway between "did I hear you right" and "say that again I dare you". Jin doubles down without hesitation.
Jin
Blades like you really are a rare sight. That may be for the best.
Mythra grumbles out a "Ngh!" and turns away.
Lora
So about Jin... I suppose you have to take him away from me.
Addam
I could try to slay you right here...
Lora
But...?
Addam
But my mission is to stop the Aegis's destruction...
To subdue Malos. Not to seek out lost trinkets.
Who cares about Paragons anyway?
Lora goes "Huh?", not expecting this sort of attitude.
Addam
(more excited)
How about... you two join up, lend us your strength?
You're incredibly powerful. There's loads I want to pick up from you...like that trick from before!
Let's see...
We'll say I found the Paragon on my journey... And decided to entrust him to you.
To help with Malos.
Well? Sound plausible?
Lora
(choked up)
That's just...
Addam gives his goofy smile.
Later, Addam and Mythra are apart from the others' conversation. Mythra is letting Jin's comment get to her.
Mythra
How dare he speak to me like that? He thinks he knows me!
Addam
"Coarse" is the word.
Mythra
Yeah. He is.
Addam
I meant you.
Mythra
(you side against me?)
Me?!
Addam
(calmly)
He meant you're unpolished.
After you return to your core, you lose your memories.
However, as you gain experience with people, gradually the nature of a Blade...
rather, their feelings...
they change and grow.
You become more and more human.
But you purposely keep yourself apart.
Mythra
Oh, so now it's my fault?!
Addam
No, not at all.
I respect that part of you.
Mythra blushes and grumbles like she was trying to get in an argument with a parental figure and failed. Lora and Jin continue talking around the fire.
Lora
Hey, are you...angry?
About this whole Malos thing...
Jin
I'm not.
Whatever happens, I'll protect you. Be sure of it.
He looks at the crater.
Jin
We cannot simply ignore what's happening in the world.
But...
Lora
But what?
Jin
Please say you'll be careful.
Lora
Hah. I will.
It is now morning. The new party is readying to move out.
Lora
Erm, Your Highness?
Addam
Just Addam is fine. What is it?
Lora
The going after Malos thing... Could it wait a few days?
Addam
Oh? Is there something you need to do first?
Lora
I... Well, yes.
Addam waits for her to continue.
Haze
You see... Lady Lora seeks the whereabouts of her mother.
Unfortunately, she has her mercenary duties to perform. Therefore, I often go out and conduct these searches myself.
Addam
I see.
Then, you've found her?
Haze
Yes.
With all that happened yesterday, I did not have the opportunity to say...
My lady, your mother is currently residing in a small hamlet called Torigoth.
Lora
Torigoth...
Addam
That's on the edge of Gormott.
Ardainian and Coeian forces clash out there frequently. It's very dangerous.
Haze
Indeed.
Addam
Right, no time to waste. Let us head out there!
Lora
What?! But what about your mission?!
Addam
You don't want to see your mother?
Lora
Of... Of course, but...
Addam
Then let's go! Malos hasn't hit that part of the world yet.
It's as good a place as any to look.
Lora
You're hoping we might find him there?
Addam
Exactly.
Lora
That sounds too easy...
Addam
We go to the village of Torigoth to find Malos.
And you go to Torigoth to find your mother.
Everybody wins.
Lora
And once I've found my mother, I join up with you?
Addam
Mhm. That's the general idea.
I'll send my people to notify your mercenary friends.
And perhaps we could find a place for your mother in the capital?
It should be safe there.
Lora
Is this normal princely behavior?
Mythra
(impertinently)
You think this is bad, just stick around for a bit.
Milton
Nobody's, like, making you come along, you know?
Mythra
Unfortunately, a Driver and Blade are one in body and soul.
Milton
As if you don't do whatever you feel like anyway...
They glare at each other. Addam looks at them nervously before turning back to Lora's team.
Addam
I know this is all very sudden.
Still, we don't know where we'll run into Malos next.
It makes sense to stick together as much as we can.
Unknown to the group, they are being watched from a distance by an older man.
???
Isn't that...?
Parts of the flashback to Jin's awakening play: Jin appearing, the angry man advancing on Lora, the angry man having his arm cut off. It then becomes very clear this is that same man: not only is his face similar, he's got a mechanical replacement arm. And his necklace is the bones of four human fingers, probably his own, now that's metal. From the color of his replacement arm, we call him Bluefist.
Bluefist
No mistakin' it.
That's the Blade... And that little brat, too!
He turns to a Common Blade standing behind him and nods. The Blade holds up his hands, creating the blurry image of someone else's head and bust. The implication is that this is a video call.
Bluefist
Hey, it's Bluefist.
We don't hear the other side of the call.
Bluefist
Yeah, the whole village was wiped out.
Found myself some great Core Crystals, though.
He's got a bag of Core Crystals on the ground, all dark from their Drivers' recent deaths.
Bluefist
And... I found somethin' else, too. Somethin' real interesting.
In the background, Jin puts his mask back on, and the party leaves.
Bluefist
Uh-huh. Gimme some time to take care of this, OK?
I'll be in touch.
The call ends.
Bluefist
Heh...
Fate's a funny thing. Never thought I'd get to take back that Paragon what I stole in the first place...

Traveling Companions[edit]

The party is on their way out of Feltley.
Lora
It's really nice to have some more company around here. Really makes fighting a breeze, too.
Mythra
Well yeah, what did you expect? The monsters around here don't stand a chance against me.
Jin
Your powers are on a completely different level, true.
But that's not what Lora was trying to say, Aegis.
Addam
Lora doesn't think of Blades as mere tools of their Drivers. To her, they're partners in arms. Am I right?
Lora
Exactly!
When I said we had more company, I was talking about all three of you.
I don't care whether you're a Blade or a Driver! I'm just happy that we get to share our time together.
Mythra
OK, then. That's a pretty weird way of thinking, if you ask me.
Lora
You think so?
There's a pause.
Haze
Um, should we perhaps be on our way to Yanchik Harbor now?
If we keep to the road, it should take us straight there.
Addam
The regular boat from Yanchik to Gormott, is it?
As far as I know, it's still running. But we should probably hurry all the same.

What Bars the Way[edit]

Main article: What Bars the Way#Dialogue

Good Thinking[edit]

After being slapped with a quest that cannot be avoided but can be ignored, the party gets to Yanchik Harbor.
Lora
Here we are! Yanchik Harbor, isn't it?
Haze
That's correct. I requested that they wait specially for Lady Lora before they depart.
Lora
Oh, nice one! Good thinking, Haze!
Addam
Looks like getting our ride to Gormott will be no trouble at all.
Lora
Come on, let's go and have a chat with the captain.

Hitching a Ride to Gormott[edit]

The party speaks to Gedd at the harbor.
Gedd
So you're finally here, eh?
I've been waitin' for ya.
You goin' to Gormott?
Set out for Gormott?
Set out
Gedd
Hop on.
I only just became a Titan ship captain's apprentice. It might be a bumpy ride...
Try not to hurl or nothing.
I'm sure the Blades'll be all right, but...
Party leader
Well...
Not yet
Gedd
Well, whatever. Take your time.
You're my only passengers anyway...

Seeking Mother[edit]

The Titan ship floats off from the harbor and heads into the distance.
The Titan ship pulls into the harbor at Lascham Cove on Gormott. The Gormott Titan looks largely the same as it does in the base game.

First Steps in Gormott[edit]

The group has disembarked.
Haze
Lady Lora, welcome to Lascham Cove.
Lora
So this is Gormott, huh? It's so pretty... I think the grass really is greener on the other side!
Addam
It is kind of a dream destination, isn't it?
Mythra
And that's exactly why everyone's trying to claim it for themselves. Ruining it for everyone else.
Haze
Still, it's not like there was anywhere else to turn to...
This is practically the only place where Lady Lora's mother could feel secure, these days...
Lora
Don't look so glum, Haze.
If it weren't for you, I'd never have found out that my mother fled here. I can't thank you enough for that.
Haze
Yes, I suppose...
Lora
Come on, let's get to Torigoth. I can't wait to see Mother again!
Haze
OK. Let's just head along the road, it will take us straight there.
Jin
Just remember, this is uncharted territory for us. Try not to...
He pauses.
Jin
...Never mind. It's not like I need to tell any of you that.
Addam
Yes, I dare say we've all learned to exercise caution by this point... Let's not dally, then. Onwards!

Torigoth in Cinders[edit]

The party passes through the Torigoth Arch to find that Torigoth has also been raided and pillaged. The destruction isn't quite as total as where Mikhail was found - most of the grass and plants are untouched - but nothing else of value is left.
Lora
Oh no...
Addam
Here, too?
Gormott's an attractive target, but this?
Whoever did this...
clearly had no compassion or respect for the people they killed.
Mythra
(not my problem)
Whether it was Malos, or someone else. Either way...
clearly they're all toast.
Addam
(you can't say that out loud)
Mythra...
Mythra huffs and at least pretends to look remorseful. Lora is staring out into the mess.
Jin
Lora...
Lora
(in denial)
It's... It's OK. Mother could have run away somewhere safe...

Mother's Memories[edit]

Having passed through most of the village, the group reaches a cemetery. Graves are marked by wooden posts in the ground. A dead guy is lying in the middle of them all.
Addam
Look. Fresh graves over here...
Haze
This kind soul must have dug them all...
Seeing an actual victim in the flesh seems to bother Mythra a lot more than just material destruction. She breathes like she's trying not to cry.
Addam
What's wrong?
Mythra
Should...
Should we maybe bury him, too?
Addam is taken aback slightly (in a good way) by the change in attitude.
Addam
Hm. Yes, let's.
Lora looks over in a different direction and dashes over to one of the graves. It has a handmade necklace hanging on it. She lifts it off.
Lora
This...
She remembers making this very same necklace as a child.
Lora
(whimpering)
I made this for her myself...
She...kept it, all this time...
She holds it closer and cries. Jin makes a "what do I do about this" sigh, and decides to step up and hug her head. She leans into it.

Closure[edit]

The hug has been released.
Lora
Thank you, Jin.
I'm all right now. Really.
Jin
Are you sure? If you're trying to put on a brave face, then-
Lora
It's fine! ...It's fine.
Hey, guys... Do you think we could go back to the village again?
Addam
Did you notice something?
Lora
No, nothing like that...
She takes another look at the graves.
Lora
I was just thinking maybe we could bring back something to offer to the rest of the graves, besides Mother's.
Milton
They were all burned to ashes... Is there really any point?
Mythra
Really? We didn't find anything last time...
Addam
...
All right. We can all look together.
Addam
If it helps give you closure...

Brighid, Jewel of Mor Ardain[edit]

The group is walking through the village ruins.
Ardainian captain
Surround them!
Addam makes a half-formed questioning noise as a significant amount of Ardainian soldiers appear from every direction.
Addam
Ardainian troops? Imperial Guard?!
Ardainian captain
Thieving scum! Don't think you're gonna get away with your dirty deeds!
Lora
What? No! We just-
Brighid
Problem, Captain?
Brighid appears, with the same poise and attitude as always. The captain stands at attention.
Ardainian captain
Lady Brighid! They're brigands.
Same ones who attacked the village, perhaps!
Brighid
Drivers and Blades... Mercenaries?
Addam
So that's Brighid...
Brighid
Captain. I shall deal with these individuals.
Emperor Hugo must be briefed.
Ardainian captain
Yes ma'am.
Brighid draws her weapons.
Ardainian captain
You lot! Stay here and assist the Lady Brighid.
Soldier
Sir!
The captain hurries away. The party draws their weapons. The kids run off to the side somewhere.

Light and Flame[edit]

The group is defending themselves from the Ardainians.
Mythra
Not done with you!
She fires a projectile at Brighid, who blocks it. She then goes in for close combat. After some fighting, Brighid pushes her back and releases a series of embers that surround Mythra with a small circle of flame. Mythra doesn't have any trouble waving it away, but is still oddly upset about it.
Mythra
Oh come on!
That was a pretty cheap trick!
Keep going like that, you'll get a reputation!
Brighid
Cheap, you say?
Don't be absurd.
It's called tactics, look it up.
But perhaps that's something a simpleton like yourself could never hope to comprehend!
Mythra
A simpleton?
Brighid
Your attacks scream it.
Clumsy, heavy, no refinement...
Mythra
I was gonna go easy on you, but now...?
Now you have pissed me off!
She glows with intent to fire Siren.
Addam
Mythra, stop!
We've got children here!
Milton and Mikhail are hiding behind a tree nearby. Mythra ignores him and releases the laser. Brighid leaps out of the way of its impact and grunts on landing.
Brighid
(concerned)
What was THAT?!
If that had actually hit me...
Mythra
(having fun)
Oh? Didn't like that, did you?
I can see it on your face!
Well, on that note...
She focuses again.
Addam
Mythra!
Lora
Haze!
Haze
Understood.
Haze holds up her weapon and floods the battlefield with her neutralizing power. Mythra stops glowing as she is weakened.
Mythra
Wh-what...?
How?
Brighid, also affected, groans and falls to her knees.
Mythra
Is this...
you?
What the hell?
She's our enemy!
Lora
Addam plainly ordered you to stop.
Or didn't you hear him?
Simpleton.
Mythra blubbers while trying to remain standing and failing.
Brighid
How extraordinary...
I'd heard of a Blade with the power to restrain others, but I never thought...
And, did she say Addam?
It can't be...
Ardainian
All of you, lay down your arms!
There is a new arrival. Everyone looks over to see a young man looking (and sounding) much like Niall of the base game. On his left is Aegaeon; on his right is someone with more important-looking armor than the captain.
Ardainian
There's no need for this.
Addam puts a hand on the downed Mythra's shoulder and glares at her. She reluctantly puts her sword away. Addam nods at Lora and Haze, who nod at each other as Haze turns herself off. Addam helps the exhausted Mythra up, then greets the newcomer warmly.
Addam
Hello...[3]
He replies by dropping the formality and smiling.
Ardainian
It's good to see you again, Prince Addam. Please forgive the actions of my guards.
Addam
Don't you worry about it.
I'm just glad to see you well, Your Imperial Majesty.
Lora
Imperial...Majesty?
Addam
May I introduce...
The Emperor of Mor Ardain, Hugo Ardanach.
Lora
The Ardainian Emperor?!
What's someone of his station doing out here?
Addam
You know, our stations are fairly similar...
Mythra
Not that you'd ever know...
Addam
Thanks! I try.
Hugo
I've come for the Aegis.
Its actions have been felt in Mor Ardain, as well. We're currently chasing it down.
Addam
The same as us, then.
But coming here yourself?
Hugo
My brother is ruling in my absence.
Addam
I see... And so you brought Brighid and Aegaeon...?
Lora makes a "?" sound.
Addam
Those two are the Crown Jewels of the Ardainian forces.
Wielding them on the front lines is the duty of he who has the throne.
Hugo
Indeed... That ought to have been my older brother.
Addam
But he didn't have the potential to become a Driver.
And now, here you are,
bonded with both of them.
Addam looks to the man Hugo brought who's neither Driver nor Blade. "Who's that?" is the unspoken question.
Hugo
The Special Inquisitor is under my brother's direct command.
Addam
Oh.
Hugo
Should I fall in battle, he has his orders to retrieve the Core Crystals.
Lora
That sounds cold...
Addam
That's how it goes with matters of state.
Hugo
And yet.
It works out well for me.
I have always wanted to put myself on the line for our people.
And I never enjoyed wielding authority in the first place.
Addam
I feel the same way. I don't get why anyone would want to sit on a throne.
Hugo
Yes, that? If Prince Zettar knew, there would be consequences.
Addam
Let's...pretend you didn't hear me say that.
Hugo
You two will never see eye to eye. Better to leave well enough alone.
Addam
Ruling is... Frankly, it's a scary thought.
Just imagine, becoming someone you don't recognize...
Never knowing who's looking back at you in the mirror...
Hugo
Prince Addam.
I'd be happy if you called me Hugo, like old times.
Addam
I will, dear Hugo. But only if you'll call me Addam in return.
Hugo nods.
Addam
Well, it would be beneficial to share our findings. But perhaps elsewhere might be better?
Aegaeon
How about Your Majesty's flagship?
Hugo
Indeed.
Lora
Flag...ship?
Haze
Is something the matter, Lady Lora?
Lora
I'm just...not very good in that kind of stuffy environment...
Mythra
You're not alone there! That's the worst.
Lora
Right?!
I think I'll sit this particular venture out.
Mythra
Yeah, I'm out too.
Addam
Oh no you don't.
He playfully grabs her by the arm as she tries to turn away. Mythra is -_-.
Hugo
Wait a minute... Is that her?
Addam
Yes. This is Mythra, one of the Aegises.
Mythra grumbles at being outed as too important to stay away from the upcoming meeting.
Addam
Your account would be valuable as well, Lora.
Lora
Everything I've seen or heard, Jin will know as well.
Jin
(reluctantly)
Ah, y-yes, that's true.
Lora
Please, would you go instead of me please?
Jin looks for Haze's opinion. She nods. He immediately regrets asking and shakes his head to the side, before looking back up.
Jin
(all business)
Of course. I will do as you wish.
Hugo
Thank you kindly.
Addam puts out his arms in a "we're ready" gesture.
Hugo
Well then, shall we?

Hugo's Mission[edit]

The party readies to leave.
Hugo
Well then, my friends, shall we make a move?
Aegaeon
Your Majesty...
This may not be my position to say, but would it not be wise to first investigate the location we spoke of?
Hugo
Ah, yes, you do raise a valid point...
Brighid
Aegaeon, please consider His Majesty's feelings.
He wishes for quality time to spend with his dear friend, Prince Addam.
Addam
I'm honored that you value me so highly.
But I think this is a decision best left to Hugo. What do you say? Would that be getting in the way of your mission?
Hugo
No, no, not in the slightest!
He glances at Mythra.
Hugo
In fact, I believe you are just as much involved in this whole affair as us.
What with your traveling alongside the Aegis, that much is clear.
Mythra
So this mission of yours has something to do with Malos?
Hugo
Exactly so. Aegaeon, would you?
Aegaeon
Of course. By official decree, allow me to formally disclose to you the nature of our mission.
On the surface, we have traveled here to work on diffusing diplomatic tensions between the Empire and Coeia.
But at the same time, there is another matter we are investigating.
Mythra
And that, I presume, is Malos... So, what are you going to do? Take him down? Capture him?
Aegaeon
At the present time, neither.
It is His Majesty's wish to ascertain the intent of this Malos, and indeed anyone who wishes our empire harm.
Brighid
...Then, I assume new intelligence has come to light?
Aegaeon
The 4th Decade reported in just as you were on your way to Torigoth.
They had discovered an area of land that had been scorched black by some colossal power.
Lora
I don't think Addam's going to want to ignore that one.
Addam
You read my mind.
Hugo, as much as I'd enjoy reminiscing out on the Cloud Sea, I'd quite like to enjoy some more of the scenery first.
Hugo
Of course.
If you like, we can take a side trip before we return to the ship.
Jin
Lora, is this wise...?
Lora
I still want to decorate the graves, so I'll wait for you in the village.
Everything will be fine. Haze is with me, after all.
Haze
That's right. Please, take as much time as you need.
Jin
All right.
Jin
Maybe it's for the best that she doesn't get to see the extent of Malos's devastation...

Power Unimaginable[edit]

Abandon Being Near The Ship[edit]

If the player talks to Lora after the above quest begins, she and Haze are re-added to the party. Should the player approach Lascham Cove while they are in the party, this scene plays, followed by removing them again.

The group has wandered near Lascham Cove.
Lora
Huh, there's a massive ship over at the port!
Hugo
Ah, yes. That would be the Ardainian flagship.
Lora
You're kidding! That's yours?!
Jin
Makes sense. You want to make a show of your nation's might, do it with a big boat.
Addam
Why don't we all board? It'd be a shame to leave some of us waiting outside.
Lora
Oh, no need, really! I'm terrible with stuffy environments. And all that noble food doesn't sit well with me...
Hugo
We could have the cooks recreate some your country's cuisine, if it please you?
Lora
I appreciate the sentiment, Hugo, but I'll pass. Come on, Haze!
Haze
Right here, Lady Lora!
Lora and Haze leave towards Torigoth.
Jin
She's not going to get used to it any time soon with that attitude...

The Aegis[edit]

The scene moves to Indol.
Two people are walking down a hallway. One of them is Amalthus. The other is a shorter, older man wearing two near-opaque monocles. His name is Stannif. As they reach the end of the hallway, Amalthus thinks about the past.
In a flashback, Amalthus and Rhadallis look at a large piece of art placed behind the throne of Indol. It looks much like a vase that approximates the shape of an Aegis Core Crystal. Malos is then suddenly behind them, approaching.
Malos
Interesting thing you've got there.
Instead of walking around them or between them, Malos teleports through them to stand in front of the art.
Amalthus
Malos, enough.
Rhadallis
It's all right.
Having shushed Amalthus, he proceeds to explain the art to Malos.
Rhadallis
Indol's most sacred treasure. The Aegis.
It is said to be the embodiment of the Architect's light... The divine revelations our founder Meldinare received.
Malos
Really?
Then...
Malos holds up his hand. The artifact shatters and disintigrates.
Malos
that's what I will be called, too.
After all, I am born of divinity, not just some reflection.
Rhadallis
You believe yourself so strong?
Malos
Don't you?
The flashback ends.
Stannif
Your situation doesn't look good. Baltrich is not going to let it go.
Amalthus makes a vague noise of non-denial.
Stannif
And you can't hide behind the Praetor forever...
Amalthus
That has nothing to do with you.
Stannif
If that were true, you wouldn't be here.
Amalthus grunts again. Stannif has a breathy chuckle. The two reach the door at the end of the hallway.
Stannif
Here.
The door opens and they enter. It's hard to get a sense of what's in the room yet.
Amalthus
What is this place?
Stannif
It's a very tasty secret...
There are several large rusted machine parts in the room.
Stannif
Formerly known only...to the Praetor and me.
The essence of our Judician forbears, originally salvaged from the bottom of the Cloud Sea.
Some of it may hail from the fabled Land of Morytha...
Amalthus
Morytha?
Stannif
Look.
Stannif activates a console. A hologram appears, showing two strands of DNA, yellow and green.
Stannif
This here display is a diagram of what human cells are made of.
And then this one here is a Blade's.
Amalthus
Astonishingly alike.
Stannif
Of course. After all, they are descended from humans too. That in and of itself isn't too shocking.
Stannif
But this...
Now there is only a yellow strand.
Amalthus
It's the same, isn't it?
Stannif
Just wait...
The display zooms out. Many more strands of DNA come into view and shrink down. Chromosome-shaped blobs become visibile, followed by a series of planar layers, and finally the whole thing finishes zooming out to reveal this is the interior of a Core Crystal.
Amalthus
(quietly astonished)
That...that's a Core Crystal.
Stannif
Exactly. A Blade's Core Crystal contains information not only pertaining to humans...
It also records schematics describing all manner of animal tissues.
Amalthus
You're saying Blades contain detailed information of all living creatures?
Stannif
Not just that.
There is now a lattice of points, connected somewhat haphazardly.
Stannif
Have a look at this undeveloped part.
A second lattice appears, with many more points and connections.
Stannif
That is from a Titan.
The two lattices overlap, showing the first lattice is an exact though incomplete copy of the second.
Stannif
It suggests that this particular piece may one day develop into a Titan.
Isn't it mind-boggling? A message from the Architect, no doubt.
Amalthus
From the...Architect...
Stannif
Indeed. This is just what you were after.
I wish to investigate this, and learn more of what the Architect has in store for this world.
And, perhaps, claim this knowledge for our own.
Amalthus
Including the Praetor?
Stannif
Perhaps...
Amalthus clenches his fist in rage and fails to keep it still.
Stannif
Isn't this in line with your own goals?
Well then, I may as well help out.

Heading for the Flagship[edit]

The party has yet to leave the burned area.
Hugo
I believe that concludes my mission. Shall we head to the flagship?
Addam
Fine by me. It's a good place for us to exchange information.
Aegaeon
It's currently moored at Lascham Cove.
Addam
Then to Lascham Cove we go!

Gort the Bluefist[edit]

The group is on the Ardainian flagship. The scene starts by looking at it from the outside.
Addam
Right...
So it was the Coeian forces that ravaged this area...
Now the scene moves inside. Addam, Hugo, Jin, and Mythra are gathered around a map on a table. Milton and Mikhail are sitting off to the side. Brighid is standing at a door; Aegaeon is not visible but presumably he is too, maybe at another door.
Hugo
Yes. Many troops remained here, with no orders, after Malos sank their homeland.
We're doing our best to disarm them, but... Well, you've seen the village.
Sadly, it's happened more than once.
Addam
The powers-that-be bicker among themselves, ignoring the larger danger.
Hugo
And right now that is the one thing we cannot afford.
Several indistinct noises are heard from outside the room. Something might be happening elsewhere on the ship.
Aegaeon
I will go take a look.
He heads out.
Hugo
Incidentally, how has Torna been faring?
Addam
I'd like to tell you that the people bask in the peace of His Majesty's rule.
...But I'm afraid that would be a lie.
Hugo
Same as everywhere else, then... Yes?
Addam
Torna has not escaped Malos's rampage unscathed.
Hugo
If that is so, allow me to offer you the Imperial Army's assistance in this time of...
Addam
Don't worry about it.
This is exactly the reason why Indol entrusted her to me...
A flashback begins. Addam and Mythra stand in Amalthus's room.
Amalthus
Ah. So you came.
The future king of Torna.
I'm glad I thought to send a messenger.
Addam
(seriously)
King? Don't joke about it.
Rumors like that could cause trouble at home.
Amalthus
I am merely a quaestor. I hold no such influence.
Addam
A quaestor today. But tomorrow?
Amalthus turns his attention to Mythra.
Amalthus
The Core's color is different...
And she's a woman, too.
Mythra lets out a "so that's how it is" sort of mumble.
Amalthus
Quite lovely, indeed.
Malos was all brawn and brutish strength.
Mythra
You worried?
Amalthus
No, quite the contrary.
Everybody knows a Blade's appearance bears no relation to their power.
You could be the heroine of our resistance.
Mythra
No, I won't be anyone's anything.
Amalthus
That's fine, now.
I have only one thing to ask of you.
To rectify the mistake I made.
And erase Malos...from the face of the world...
His neutral face turns into a small smile. Mythra keeps glaring at thim. Addam seems a bit uneasy.
The flashback ends. It seems that Addam has just told this story to Hugo.
Hugo
So that's why...
The returning hero, pacifier of the borderlands, was really just...
Addam
Never before has a Blade broken free and rampaged like this.
I can see why Indol would prefer to keep it quiet.
They're even routing support to the militia through Argentum for deniability.
Hugo
And then towards you.
Addam
I'm just some princeling, me.
Hugo
Surely if you defeat Malos, your cover will be blown.
Addam
"If", indeed. But we're not in it for the glory, are we?
When we're done, I'll just plow my fields in peace.
Aegaeon returns.
Aegaeon
Your Majesty!
Aegaeon
Some of our troops have returned to base, but...
Hugo
Is something wrong?
Aegaeon
They're all reporting something strange.
A marauding group of routed mercenaries, trying to avoid any attention.
Hugo
Just remnants, hm?
That is strange...
There's not much around here for them in the way of paid work or opportunities for looting...
Aegaeon
As Your Majesty commanded, our men did not engage.
We confirmed their bearing, then withdrew.
Hugo
And? Where were they going?
Aegaeon
The village outskirts...
Addam
But why there?
There's nothing but graveyards...
Jin gasps as he realizes that Lora might be in trouble. He bolts for the door.
Mythra
What the-
Jin pushes past Aegaeon and is gone. The others start to figure it out.
Addam
Oh no...
Everyone else follows.
Lora stands next to Haze in front of her mother's grave. The necklace has been replaced on the marker.
Lora
At first I thought to take it.
But I'd made it for her. And I'd like her to keep it forever.
Suddenly, Bluefist arrives.
Bluefist
So... The bitch is dead, is she? Shame, I had a soft spot for her.
Lora gasps as the two turn around and assume battle stances. Bluefist is accompanied by at least eight other humans, all with regular weapons.
Bluefist
Heh. Guess you learned how to use a weapon, at least.
Big change from a tiny kid tryin' not to piss 'erself in fear.
Lora
(disbelief)
You're... No!
She remembers that face, looking down at her with the knife raised, before Jin cut his arm off.
Lora
Gort...
Gort
You remember me? How touching.
Lora
A face that ugly, I couldn't forget. Trust me, I tried!
Gort
Harsh...
Lora
What do you want? Not that I can't imagine.
Gort
I'm here to take back what's mine, kid.
But before that...
I'll take a bit o' time to express my gratitude to ya.
It ain't gonna be pretty or quick.
Then I'll make that Blade watch as I cut you into little, sticky chunks.
Just to make sure the last thing he feels is complete despair.
Haze
(calmly)
I'll hold them up. You get to the others, quickly.
Lora
No use...
Haze, he knew about you. He brought no Blades, just more mercs.
Gort
Exactly.
Don't worry!
Gort
I'm gonna treat you real good 'fore I get to the cuttin'.

Mercy[edit]

Not winning immediately has caused Gort to become upset. He sticks an extra blade out from his mechanical wrist as it starts to rain.
Gort
You're...startin' to piss me off...
Gort
Oi! Surround 'em so they don't get away!
Lora and Haze have already downed two of them, but the rest start to move in.
Haze
(insistent)
My lady, you have to go!
Lora
It's all right. He's here.
About halfway through Lora's line, Jin becomes audible in the distance, letting out a war cry as he approaches. He leaps from an outcropping above and dashes towards and through the battlefield, taking out mercs as he goes.
Gort
You bastard!
Gort abandons all strategy and runs for Lora.
Jin
Nooo!
As Gort lunges, Jin strikes. The sword trail passes through both of Gort's arms. The mechanical one gets knocked into the air as Gort screams in first pain and then anguish. Careful camerawork conceals what happened to his other arm, but he sure isn't acting like it's still attached to him.
Mercenary 1
B-b-b-boss?
Mercenary 2
We're done for. Let's run!
The remaining mercenaries turn and bolt, only to run into the rest of the party.
Mercenary 2
Aaaah!
They brought some extra soldiers with them as well. Gort continues to scream as Jin stands over him.
Jin
(deadly calm)
Had enough?
What's next, then?
Right leg?
Or the left?
Or how about...?
He puts his blade to Gort's neck, which silences him. He lifts it up and strikes.
Lora
Enough.
Jin's sword comes to a halt just above Gort's head.
Lora
That's enough, Jin.
Just leave him. For my sake...
Jin
I...
He doesn't appear to agree, but he very quickly pulls back his weapon. Gort rolls over, gets up, and runs away screaming. Hugo points some soldiers after him while the rest subdue the other mercs.
The soldiers are done taking out the trash. Lora's kneeling at the grave.
Addam
So you let him go?
Even without his arms, he may cause you more trouble, one day.
Lora
I didn't want to end it here...
He might deserve it, but... He did...take care of my mother, so.
Addam makes a noise of not-quite-understanding. Lora gets up.
Lora
Let's go back.
I suppose I can bring myself to step foot on this flagship after all...
Gort runs, yelling like a maniac all the while. Somehow he lost the Ardainians.
Gort
(losing it)
Ugh... My arms... My arms!
Bastards!
I'm... I'm gonna kill 'em.
Every last one of 'em.
He inevitably trips and falls.
A pair of Indoline stand in front of him. He looks up in confusion to see more surrounding him.
Gort
Huh...? Th-the hell are you?
An Indoline stends forward, kneels down, and puts his hand on Gort's head. He starts to scream.
Gort
Stooop ittt!
Stannif stands nearby, smiling.

Militia on the Move[edit]

The party has reconvened in the Strategy Room.
Hugo
Thank you all for joining me here.
I'm afraid I have important news that I need to impart to Addam.
Addam
Oh yes?
Hugo
It's about the militia.
Lora
The who now?
Addam
I've been gathering an army in Uraya. People who've lost homes, families.
People who'll make a stand against Malos.
Hugo
Well, according to intelligence we received, they have departed from Uraya now.
Addam
What? Why? Malos's whereabouts are still unclear.
Hugo
It seems that Uraya has conscripted them all.
It's now a special regiment of the Urayan self-defense forces.
Addam
I thought I'd sorted this all out with the Urayan king...
Aegaeon
At His Majesty's behest, we have ascertained the position of the moving troops.
They are heading to Torna as we speak.
Hugo
We have established communications, so you can send word at any time.
Addam grumbles. The others look on as he thinks.
Addam
(holding back the frustration)
When they get to Torna... Tell them to go to Aletta... Gah...
Hugo
As you say.
Aegaeon nods and leaves the room.

Lora's Concern[edit]

Lora appears concerned.
Jin
Lora...?
Lora
Hmm...
...I've never seen Addam like that before.
He's gone off somewhere... Is it best to leave him alone, do you think?
Jin
That's for you to decide. I'll go where you go.
Lora
Right...
She thinks it over.
Lora
No, he might need someone at a time like this. We have to go after him.

Addam's Inner Turmoil[edit]

Addam stands out on a walkway along the side of the ship, staring out into the Cloud Sea. Lora and Jin are at the door. Lora goes to stand beside Addam, while Jin stays behind.
Lora
That wasn't like you.
Addam lets out a short, bitter laugh.
Addam
You think so?
Lora
Yes.
I thought... You always know what to do, you're never lost.
Addam
I wish that really were the case.
To tell the truth, I'm always worrying.
Ever since I became Mythra's Driver, anyway.
Lora
It didn't seem that way at all.
Addam
Power lends one an air of capability.
Addam
Even moreso when it comes to the Aegis.
When we first met... We could have burned you to pieces.
Though fortunately we avoided that thanks to Jin.
Jin is leaning against the doorframe facing away, like a cool guy.
Lora
Is that why...you were away from the militia?
Addam
As I am, I am not in full control of Mythra's power.
Scores of soldiers could die by my hand...
I was frightened.
This cataclysm Malos caused...
It's likely all because Quaestor Amalthus was unable to control him.
And if that's true, then perhaps I too...
Lora
I think she's well aware.
Just not so comfortable saying it.
Addam
That's your analysis?
Lora
Well, I have been with Jin, the "Paragon of Torna", for 17 years.
I can roughly tell how much of their strength a Blade is using just by watching them.
She's making sure you-
No, she's holding herself back to make sure she doesn't go that way.
Deep down she's very kind.
Addam
You think?
That still means...I'm just not man enough.
Lora
Don't think that way.
You'll get used to it, little by little.
I was the same.
Addam
If only time would slow down and afford me the chance.
Lora
Yeah...

A Leisurely Cruise[edit]

The group is now on the ship's exterior deck.
Addam
We should be able to take a ship headed straight to Aletta from here.
Mythra
That's great, but why's it got to be a passenger ship?
Can't we travel with the emperor? What's wrong with making a grand entrance?
Hugo
I'm awfully sorry.
Though I may be traveling with Lord Addam, I'm afraid my actions aren't officially sanctioned.
Aegaeon
His Majesty's ship is a war vessel.
It would take considerable negotiation before Torna granted us docking privileges.
Mythra
Figures.
Brighid
That attitude of yours is what gives us so much trouble. You just don't stop to think about the consequences, do you?
Honestly, I give up.
Behold the mighty Aegis, wielder of unthinkable power...and unparalleled foolishness.
Mythra
Hey, would you get off my case?! I didn't even say anything!
Lora
Knock it off, you two. At the very least, we've got a nice leisurely cruise ahead of us, and that's something.
Lora
I'm excited to meet the resistance. People who all look up to Addam...
Addam
Well then, if we're all agreed, let's get on with it and talk to the captain, shall we?

Hitching a Ride to Torna[edit]

The party returns to Gedd.
Gedd
You again, eh?
It's nice to have regulars.
You going to Aletta in Torna this time? You paid enough before, so this trip's on me.
Ready to go?
Depart for Aletta?
Set off
Gedd
Here we go.
I'll head for Aletta fast as I can.
Not yet
Gedd
Well, take your time.
You already paid, so I'll just wait until you're set to fly.

Catching Up to the Resistance[edit]

The Titan ship departs from Gormott.
Without incident, the Titan ship arrives in Torna, this time at Aletta Harbor. This part of the Tornan Titan looks much the same as the part visible from Lasaria, though here some of the landscape is more arid and desert-like. An impressive capital-like building sits in the distance.

Homecoming[edit]

The party enters the garrison at the harbor. Addam steps out of the group and calls for attention.
Addam
Ahoy! Miss me?
The first people to notice are a trio of soldiers, including Brogyn and Augustus.
Brogyn
Lord Addam?
Augustus
Lord Addam's finally come back!
More people come out of the woodwork.
Third person
Welcome back, Lord Addam!
Addam starts to entertain the assembly.
Lora
Wow... Someone's got himself a bit of a fan club.
Hugo
Maybe that's why he decided to take action, to wield that love for good.
Mythra
By the way... Addam gave the order to meet in this place specifically, right?
What's so special about it?
Hugo
This land is Addam's domain.
Look, that over there is his manor.
There's a building atop the ridge. Not very extravagent, but certainly larger than a normal house in this world.
Lora
Hahh... Certainly fit for a prince.
Mythra
Eh, it could stand to be bigger.
And, you know, not in the middle of nowhere...
Lora
(officially fed up)
Are you completely incapable of saying something without sarcasm?
Mythra
(practically bragging about it)
Sorry, it's just how I am. I don't really think I can help it.
Hugo
She's right, though. It is quite a way from the capital.
Aegaeon
He is far too esteemed for his own good.
Fourth in line to the throne, but loved by soldiers and citizens...
Brighid
His relations with High Prince Zettar are quite strained as a result, I hear.
Lora
Really? I suppose even princes have problems.

Atrocities[edit]

Continuing from the previous quest, Milton and Mikhail are in a kitchen, readying themselves to make some supper.
Milton
Mik, mind cutting the veggies?
Mikhail
Mm.
Mik starts chopping a cabbage-looking thing. The sliced bits neatly fly into an adjacent bowl.
Milton
Hey, you're pretty good at that.
Mikhail
Not really. Anyone could do it.
Mythra sneaks into the scene behind Milton.
Milton
Looks good to me, anyway. Then I think I'll get to the meat...
He turns around to see Mythra with a shaker in her hand, aggressively pumping its contents into whatever's on the counter. It's panic time.
Milton
...Oi, Mythra!
Mythra
Huh?
Milton
What are you doing?
Mythra
Preparing the meat, of course. Are your eyes not working or something?
She's barely even looking at the slab of meat she's dumping the shaker on. Mik's cabbage bowl is now full, but he keeps chopping away.
Milton
Well cut it out, back away, and don't touch anything.
Mythra
What? But why?
Lora
Seems like fun!
Lora and Haze have arrived.
Lora
Why don't I help, too?
Milton
Don't encourage her.
You wouldn't talk that way if you knew the atrocities of Mythra's cooking.
Lora
...Atrocities?
Milton's face lapses into a thousand-yard stare as he remembers The Incident.
In a flashback, Mythra proudly reveals her latest creation to Addam and Milton: something for which only the moving tentacles can be distinguished through the mosaic censoring. Addam and Milton look at each other and nod with worry, knowing this could be the end. They each take a smoking spoonful and consume it. Mythra waits for the first impression. For a moment, all is well - until both victims hit the floor with a dramatic thud, twitching.
The flashback ends. Mik's cabbage pile is now stacked a foot high in the bowl.
Milton
It does more damage to you than any Artifice ever could...
Lora, Haze, and Mikhail are unsure how seriously to take this claim.
Mythra
Hey, watch it! Don't go around saying mean things like that.
Addam
Er, Mythra?
Addam enters the room, followed by Jin.
Mythra
(cautiously)
Er, yeah?
Addam
(nervously)
Can I borrow you?
Mythra
Urgh... What is it? I'm about to help with dinner.
Addam
Lora, you too. Would you mind sparring with me, please?
Lora
I don't mind, but-
Jin
Why don't I help with the cooking?
Lora
Oh? Well, all right, then.
Mythra makes it visibly evident that she's not happy about being denied her rightful chance. She follows Lora and Haze out of the kitchen. Addam makes a sigh of relief and nods at Milton before following.
Milton
(very relieved)
Th-thank goodness...
Jin
Surely it can't be that bad.
Mik's cabbage pile is now stacked incongruously high in the bowl.
Milton
You could always...try it out?
Jin
Ahh... Perhaps not.

A Gathering in Torna[edit]

Continuing from the previous quest, Addam and Lora are sparring. They're using Haze's and Mythra's weapons respectively, with the two of them simply supporting, suggesting Addam is getting into Lora's blade-passing fighting style. It doesn't take long to recognize this is the same scene as shown in a flashback at the start of the main game's chapter 5, though with the landscape and Addam's appearance updated to match what the DLC uses.
Addam
Amazing, Lora. Even when I foresee your movements, you counter me instantly.
Lora
I couldn't do it without Haze's power!
What about you? I don't see you using Mythra's hidden ability!
Addam
And what if we did?
Lora
Well, if you did...
I'd just have to bring out my original Blade!
The fight takes a lull.
Jin
Master Addam...
Jin walks into frame.
Jin
Your evening meal is ready for you.
Addam
Oh, is it that time already?
Lora
The days are so long at this time of year, I just start losing track...
The scene skips to mid-meal. The group (minus Jin) sits around camp. Brighid then arrives.
Brighid
Oh, finished already? That's a shame. I was hoping to join in.
Mythra
Join in? By yourself?
Brighid
His Majesty has many pressing matters to attend to. Besides, I'm used to working alone.
Mythra
A Driver and Blade are one in body and soul. That's their very nature.
You're not at full strength without him.
Addam
It's not so simple as all that.
I know I've yet to unlock the depths of your power.
Mythra
Really? I feel like I've been giving it my all.
Addam
But you never stop growing.
At any rate, Haze's ability to restrict other Blades is indispensable.
It's perfect for training. We're lucky.
Mythra
When she stops me using my Foresight... It's certainly difficult.
Haze
Oh, but you honor me too much. I'm just happy to help you both in any way I can.
Mythra
...Next to each other like that, you really do look like twins, you two.
Addam
It's rare for the Driver's nature to appear so strongly in their Blade.
Lora
People tell me that from time to time, but is it really true?
Haze
Perhaps...
But whatever the reason, I am happy if I look even a little like you, my lady.
She shuffles over and hugs Lora's arm.
Lora
We're even the same dress size!
Haze
Right?
Everyone else in the group chuckles. There's a short skip to the group packing up after the meal. Jin is in the shot again.
Addam
By the way...
We want to try taking you on next, Jin.
Lora
Well? How about it, Jin?
Jin
I'm afraid I don't particularly like fighting.
He starts to leave.
Addam
And to think we're hearing that from "the strongest man in Torna".
Lora
But perhaps there's truth in those words.
After all, he...
or rather, they...
A soldier then comes running in.
Soldier
My lord, my lady! We've discovered Malos's target!
The capital!
Addam
What? ...Are you sure...?
Soldier
Yes, no doubt about it!
A flashback begins. In Indol, Amalthus looks at the ancient mural, unregressed with time. Malos is then suddenly behind him.
Malos
(Hi.)
Hi.
Amalthus turns in surprise.
Amalthus
Malos.
He stares at Malos long enough to ascertain that he's real.
Amalthus
And here I thought I had seen the last of you.
Malos
Now, now. I never meant our parting would be forever, you know.
I've just been to see the Tornan Titan.
I bet it'd be real interesting to see it in its true form...
Amalthus
Where did you learn that?
Malos
Learn?
Inside my core, I have all the data of all Blades and Titans.
Amalthus
You have all of it?
You think to call yourself the Master Blade?
Malos
Sure, why not?
Sounds good.
So?
Exciting, right?
Amalthus looks to the side and hmms, not particularly excited.
Malos
My partner... I hear you gave her to that Tornan prince.
Amalthus
And if I did?
You'd erase me? Just like that?
Malos
Not at all. I have a much better idea than that.
I've decided my next target is Torna.
Amalthus
Why would you tell me so plainly?
Malos
So you know what to look forward to as you watch.
Malos walks away and vanishes into thin air.
The flashback ends. It appears the soldier has been telling Addam the relevant parts of it.
Addam
I see... So this comes from the Quaestor...
But he doesn't know what Malos is planning for Torna.
Mythra
We should probably hurry.
Addam nods.
Addam
Soon. We'll go once Hugo's back.

Onwards to the Capital[edit]

Hugo and Aegaeon are back. We have no idea how much time passed.
Hugo
It's good to see you again, everyone.
Addam
Hugo. Have you finished surveying the battleground?
Hugo
We have. And we came upon something of grave importance.
Lora
You're looking a bit pale there, Hugo. Are you all right?
Hugo
I'm just...a little tired, that's all.
Aegaeon
I'm not surprised. The Coeian resistance fought so desperately, they really took it out of us.
The battleground was a terrible sight to behold.
Hugo
How many more lives must Malos wrest from us? We must do all we can to avenge them.
It is truly tragic...
Addam
We'll put a stop to it.
Come on. They repaired Lett Bridge while you were away. I think it's time for us to move on.
Hugo
Move on? Have you discovered where Malos will strike next?
Addam
Indeed. We had our suspicions, and now they've been confirmed. His target is Torna... The capital, no less.
Aegaeon
Can we trust the veracity of the source?
Brighid
I believe we can. The Praetorium's intelligence is likely to be on the mark.
Hugo
Our info is coming from the Quaestor, then? In that case, I believe we have little room for doubt.
Milton
The capital, huh? That's a long way.
Addam
It is. Once we're over Lett Bridge, we'll have to cross the Dannagh Desert.
Milton
What do you want to do, Mik? You can stay here if you want.
Addam
We can have one of the wardens look after him.
Mikhail
...I'll go with you.
Addam
Are you sure? Sooner or later, we'll end up facing Malos... It's a dangerous road that lies before us.
Mikhail
I'm! Going! With you!
Mik runs over to Lora's side.
Lora
Mikhail...
Mikhail
...
Lora
...What should we do?
Hugo
Thinking about it now, there is no guarantee that his staying here would assure his safety.
He may in fact be safer in our company, is that not so?
Haze
Shall we let him come with us, then?
Addam
Talk about twisting a person's arm...
Fine. We're all going to the capital.
Lora kneels down to get a bit closer to Mikhail's height.
Lora
Are you sure this is what you want, Mikhail?
Mikhail nods.
The scene skips ahead a bit. The group has drifted into two: Lora, Jin, Haze, and the kids are a bit further up the road, while the rest lag behind slightly.
Addam
Hugo, I have a proposal for you.
Hugo
Oh yes?
Addam
I've been thinking, after the sparring match with Lora yesterday...
Wouldn't we also make better use of our skills if we passed around our weapons the way she does?
How about it? Want to give it a go?
Hugo
...
Perhaps it's worth a try.
Lora has access to both Jin and Haze's weapons when fighting.
It's sure to open up her options in battle.
I do think it would be wise for us to learn from her. Especially given our coming battle with the Aegis.
Addam
So we're agreed!
Mythra, I'd like to try using your sword.
Mind if I borrow it?
Mythra
It's all yours.
I doubt you're gonna do as well as those three, though.
Addam
Strangely humble of you.
Mythra
That's not what I meant...
Addam stares at her for a moment, like he's waiting for something.
Mythra
Actually, forget what I said. We're gonna knock this out of the park!
Addam
Now that's more like it!
Hugo
Brighid, Aegaeon. You may not be so convinced at first, but give it time and we will surely reap the rewards.
Aegaeon
As you wish, Your Majesty.
Brighid
I would never question your authority, Your Majesty.
Hugo
Thank you. I am blessed to have such faithful attendants.
The ahead group seems to have noticed the behind group is behind.
Lora
Let's make tracks, people!
Addam
We'll be right with you!
Hugo
Onwards then, to the capital!

A Howl From Beyond[edit]

The party travels up Olnard's Trail. As they pass a cliffside, a Slithe Jagron on another nearby cliff leaps into their way.
Lora
A Slithe Jagron?!
What's a Leftherian monster doing here?!
Addam
Worry about that later. Come on!
The kids run off as the fighters prepare.

Minoth Takes the Stage[edit]

Mythra and Jin blast the Jagron with their elemental attacks. It hits the rock face and goes down.
Addam
(not expecting it to be this easy)
Is it over?
The monster gets back up. It spies that there are two smaller, less-threatening pieces of meat nearby, and leaps over the fighters to get to Mikhail and Milton. Mikhail gasps. Milton decides to hug him, perhaps like he's trying to protect him.
Addam
Milton!
Addam interposes himself in the Jagron's path and waits for the pain. Instead, it gets shot by four glowing bullets and knocked down. Addam turns to see a new arrival, coming from where they were going: a gunslinger-looking Blade with two handguns, his crystal with the coloring of a Flesh Eater, and a dark mark plastered across the left side of his face that may look familiar.
Addam
Minoth
You were always slow to finish a job, my Prince!
Addam
I thought I told you to stop calling me that.
Mythra
A Blade?
Addam
He's Minoth. Quaestor Amalthus's Blade.
Having approached, Minoth converts his guns into knives. They might now be recognizable, adding to the evidence that this is the same Minoth seen by the name Cole from the main game.
Mythra
Amalthus's?!
Lora gasps.[4]
Addam
He's one of the quaestors in Indol.
And...
Malos's Driver.
The enemy roars again. The fight will continue.

What Kind of Salvation?[edit]

The fight continues. Jin and Lora pass their sword back and forth to beat on the Jagron.
Minoth
(matter-of-factly)
You've got an interesting way of fighting.
Minoth joins in this beating where everyone's having a completely level-headed conversation while doing cool anime attacks and flips and etc.
Minoth
You are?
Lora
Lora.
That's Jin.
And she is Haze.
Haze
Pleased to meet you.
Minoth
Jin?
You don't mean from Torna?
But, 17 years ago, wasn't he...?
Addam
Minoth... Not a word to anyone.
Minoth
Sounds like a good story is all I'm saying.
Lora
You want to hear?
Minoth
Another time.
Minoth and Mythra pass in the air. She lands the final blow to the enemy's throat. There is silence.
Addam
That was close.
Thanks, Minoth.
You're very capable, even on your own.
Minoth
(sour)
Ah, well maybe I should thank him... Or not.
Lora
Your Core looks...kind of different.
Minoth
Ah, well. I'm a Flesh Eater.
Lora
A Flesh Eater?
Minoth
A being with human and Blade cells, made possible with Judician technology.
That's how I can use my full strength anywhere, without my Driver.
But I'm pretty sure I'm a failed experiment, so to speak.
Lora
I never knew Blades like that existed.
Jin
Flesh Eaters...
Addam
What of Amalthus? Isn't he coming?
Minoth
Nah... I just heard rumors that you guys had entered Torna.
I used my own initiative.
Addam
(intrigued)
Ah.
Minoth
It's been two years since I saw him last.
Addam
Huh?
A flashback begins of Minoth walking through a forest.
Minoth comes upon a dead man in front of a house with the door open. A baby cries in the distance. He steps up to the door to see more dead inside, including the soldier that Amalthus once healed, but then found trying to steal from this house. The baby's crying stops. Minoth goes to where he heard it coming from, to find Amalthus holding it at the cliffside, staring at the World Tree. It's a continuation of the flashback that started Chapter 9.
Amalthus
I arrived too late.
Minoth
Is that right...?
Was that their child?
That soldier, wasn't that the one from-
Amalthus
Such a cruel world we live in.
Minoth makes a noise halfway between a "?" and a derisive huff.
Amalthus
In Indol, there are a great many paintings depicting all manner of hells.
Two such paintings are shown, of people suffering in flames.
Amalthus
But I think...real hell might be... closer to something like this.
Minoth
Amalthus, you can't-
Amalthus
I had hoped, once, that the Architect might...
save us all...
The flashback ends. Minoth must've been telling the party about it.
Minoth
Since then, I haven't seen him.
I heard he went climbing up the World Tree not long after.
And brought divine revelations back with him...
Addam
You mean...
Lora
The Aegis, Malos.
Minoth
But... What kind of a revelation is this?
They look out down the cliff. More craters of Malos's destruction pepper the landscape beyond.
Minoth
What kind of salvation?
Could anyone call THIS salvation...?
His hope caused this...
Or...his despair.
Lora
Despair...?
Minoth
(to Mythra)
How about you, then? You're from the same stock.
Mythra
(extra-dismissive)
I don't know what you're talking about.
I'm just following this guy since he woke me up, and that's basically it.
I have no particular interest in this world or its future.
Minoth
And Malos himself?
Mythra
(extra-extra-dismissive)
His thoughts I'm especially uninterested in.
We've never even met.
Addam
Please, don't mistake her.
Despite the attitude, she's a good kid.
Mythra
(offended)
The hell is with that tone?
Where do you get off acting all parental?
Addam
Hahaha! Oh, come on.
I woke you up, I make sure you get enough to eat...
Mythra
Wha-?
Addam
Cloud Sea Crab Sticks are tasty, aren't they? You're very welcome.
Addam
Although I don't think I'd have managed to eat six myself.
Mythra
What? You counted?!
Milton
I don't know where you put all that.
Mythra
I'm the Aegis! I need all the fuel I can get!
Milton slinks up beside her and pokes her in, based on the sound, a fatty region.
Mythra
(very loudly)
Hey!
She spins away and grabs her abdomen.
Milton
You're too easy to sneak up on.[5]
Where're MY extra rations?
Mythra growls.
Mythra
You little...
Milton
Hehehe! The Aegis, bested by a little kid! Hehehehe!
He starts to prance away. Mythra chases like she forgot how to run properly.
Mythra
Milton! Get back here!
Minoth goes "Heh.". Addam makes a "?" sound.
Minoth
Y'know... If the Architect really does exist,
I'd quite like to meet him.
Salvation, huh?

Equal Opportunities Driver[edit]

It's now evening. The party has made a campsite on the trail, and sits around the fire.
Minoth
Your sword-swapping fighting style... It's very interesting, you know.
Lora
It's still quite rough, though. I'm a bit lacking in "oomph".
It'll take me a while to get it down properly.
Minoth
(with a smirk)
See, I wasn't actually talking about the power or technique.
Lora
Oh? What then?
Minoth
That connection you have, human and Blade...
It's like a bond of sorts. I just found it curious.
Lora
An actual...
bond?
Minoth
It's like that's how it's supposed to be... Eh, I dunno.
Haze
It does make sense.
Lady Lora is always with Jin.
And you almost never find time to practice with me. It's like he's her favorite.
Lora
Come on, don't say that! I'm an equal opportunities Driver!
Haze
(lightly)
Liar...
Lora
You're both my partners and very dear to me. There's no favoritism, swear!
Haze
(a bit more seriously)
Are you really sure about that?
Jin
I think Haze is a bit jealous. I have been with you longer, after all.
Lora
You think...?
Haze hods.
Lora
All right then.
Starting tomorrow, Haze gets to take the lead! Good?
Haze
Wonderful!
Lora
(to Jin)
You don't mind?
Jin
It's all right by me.
The scene skips ahead. The seats are all gone and most everyone is sleeping by the fire. Aegaeon is on watch. Addam gets up and walks over to the last fight's battlefield to get some practice in. Mythra then comes up.
Mythra
Do you remember?
Mythra
The last time we paid a visit to Indol?
Addam remembers, and a flashback of it begins. Addam and Mythra walk down a bunch of stairs in Indol and stop at the bottom, at the fork between Poldis Circle and Milama Viewpoint.
Addam
What did you think?
Mythra
You mean, about him?
Let's see...
In a word: he seemed very human. Protecting his heart with a mask of lies.
By "him" she likely means Amalthus.
Addam
Are you curious what's behind it?
Mythra
Not really. Most humans are like that, aren't they?
Addam
Cutting to the chase, I see.
But I hear his achievements in Indol have been quite grand.
He looks out on the plaza below. Just like in the main game, it's been turned into a Refugee Campground.
Addam
The refugee protection policies from last year are his work, as well.
Mythra
So a hypocrite, then. Isn't that what you call the type?
Addam
Quite... I hope that's all he is.
Mythra
He smiled. Did you notice?
Addam
(concerned)
No.
Mythra
I think...he might actually be enjoying this.
Addam
What?
Mythra
The world in this state.
Addam
That's interesting...
Mythra
You felt something was wrong, didn't you? That's why you brought me.
In the campground below, there's at least three fights going on over ownership of an object, perhaps rations.
Addam
Don't you think they're worth saving?
Mythra
If you think they are, you know you'll have my aid.
Addam
Even if you disagree?
Mythra
That's not for the likes of me to decide.
It's up to you humans.
The flashback ends.
Addam
Oh, you mean that time? I remember. What about it?
Mythra
What Minoth said bothered me...
Mythra
I think he was talking about Malos, but his words could just as easily have applied to Amalthus.
Addam
I suppose.
Mythra
What if all of this is what Amalthus-
No, what all of humanity really wants?
Addam
You don't mean it.
Mythra moves as if she's uncertain. Addam is downcast.
Mythra
Hey...
What are we going to do if we defeat Malos anyway?
Addam
You know...
Like I told Hugo, go home and work the land.
I didn't get to harvest the Gromrice this year.
Mythra
While that might be good enough for you...
Addam hmms at her.
Mythra
Some others might...not be too pleased with that...
Addam hmms again, this one more disappointed.
The scene moves over to Stannif's hidden warehouse. Gort is on the floor, out of it. Amalthus is confused.
Amalthus
Who is this?
Stannif
Picked him up during a routine core collection.
He was one of yours, right?
Amalthus
As we discussed, I engaged him as a broker of cores, but no more.
What a waste of a human being.
Stannif
That much is hard to deny.
Amalthus
What are you driving at?
Stannif
Waste and refuse can have their own uses, I think...
The project we spoke of before...
I think it may be time to set it in motion.
Amalthus
You mean... A Blade Eater?
Stannif
His strength will grow...exponentially.
It will dwarf even that of a Flesh Eater.
Amalthus
And you can...control him?
Stannif
Oh, please. Even if we can't, there's no need to worry.
After all, this is just a prototype.
Sooner or later, the binding will decay and he will die.
Amalthus hmms, uncertain.
Stannif
I hear...
...he's got some connection to this Paragon of Torna, you see.
He'll prove useful either way.
Amalthus turns to leave.
Stannif
Torna, then?
He's on your mind, isn't he? Malos...
Amalthus
Not him, but what comes after...

To Cross a Desert[edit]

Main article: To Cross a Desert#Dialogue

A Familiar Village[edit]

Not far from the most recent campsite is Hyber Village.
Addam
Very good. We can stay here for the day.
Jin is looking around very slightly more emotionally than usual.
Lora
Something wrong?
Jin
No, but...
This place is familiar somehow.
It feels like it, anyway.
Lora
Is it possible you've been here before?
Jin
I have no memory of it.
But still...
Lora
Umm... Maybe you could just have a little walk around.
Something might jog your memory.
Jin
Yeah, maybe so.

A Stroll in the Village[edit]

Benny[edit]

Benny
Whoa! Cool!
It's been aaages since I saw Drivers and Blades!
This village is so small, it's only got two houses and an inn...
It used to be way bigger, but people don't really come by any more.
If you're gonna stay at Teo's inn, come by and play with me, 'kay?

Buzz[edit]

Buzz
Well met there, travelers.
Oh, so the repairs to Lett Bridge are finished, are they?
We were a sleepy village to begin with, but after the bridge fell our trickle of visitors dried up completely.
I'm glad the bridge's fixed.
Say, if you're planning on crossing the Dannagh Desert from here, it'd be a good idea to rest up in the inn first.
It's tough out there in the desert. Even for strong Drivers and Blades...

Martha[edit]

Martha
Hm hm, it's certainly rare to meet Drivers and their Blades.
I came here to investigate monsters. Hah! It's quite the life for an old lady. Wouldn't trade it for the world.
You seem like reliable young tykes. Maybe I'll tell you about it someday...
If you want to know more about this village, though, you'll have to ask someone else.
I'm just a visitor here.

Teo[edit]

Teo
Drivers and Blades!
If you're to cross the Dannagh Desert, would you come and stay at my inn first?
I don't have much to share with you, but will you let me do what I can?
There's a reason I've been running this inn for the past 70-odd years, you know. I like helping folks.
Stay at Teo's inn?
Sure
Teo
Please come in!
Not quite yet...
Teo
You want to look round the village more? Of course I understand.
I'll be waiting. Take all the time you need to explore.

A Moment's Peace[edit]

Lora looks out the window of their room at Hyber's inn. Jin is just standing in the middle of the room, as he does. The door is heard opening as Teo enters.
Teo
Hey, you! You wouldn't be Ornelia's former Blade, would you?
This scene has been seen as a flashback in Chapter 9, though the voices are more noticably re-recorded than other such cases.
Jin
Ornelia? No, I'm...
Teo
From the Territorial Defense Corps! It is you!
Jin
What?
Teo
Ooh, I remember 'em well! Even though I was knee-high to a grasshopper back then...
With that sword slung across your back... You were so cool.
If you hadn't come when you did, our village would've been...
Oh yes!
The house you used to live in is still out there on the outskirts.
Jin
(interested)
House?
The scene skips ahead to Lora and Jin standing in front of said house.
Lora
I'll check out the back.
Jin
Good.
In the house, Jin holds a picture frame in his hands, of himself and several other people. He puts down the photo and spies a book on the shelf. He opens it. Unlike the flashback in the main game, we do not hear his inner monologue as he reads his previous words of the war and how to become a Flesh Eater. Then Lora starts to enter.
Lora
My... How terribly desolate...
Jin hurriedly shuts the book and hides it behind his back.
Lora
I heard it's been 90 years, but...
She notices Jin looks a bit jumpy and stops looking around.
Lora
What is it? Did you remember something?
Jin
N-no... It's nothing.
Lora
Really? That's too bad. I would've liked to have learned about the old you.
Jin
I am...who I am. I do not change.
This is where the main game cut off. Lora's face slowly turns to surprise, then she suddenly gasps and clutches her chest.
Jin
Lora! Are you OK? What happened?
Lora
(struggling)
Ugh... You got me right here...
She abrubtly looks up, surrounded in pink hearts.
Lora
(fiercely)
My heart's pounding!
Jin
(um, what?)
Huh? But...
Lora
That! That was such an awesome line!
She straightens up and takes a step forward.
Jin
Wha-?
Lora
Jin, you didn't even realize, did you? Sometimes you'll...say something, and I'll just swoon.
Jin
([visible confusion])
But...
Lora
I don't think any girl could refuse you.
Jin
(panic escalating)
N-no... I didn't mean to...
Lora
Nuh-uh, you're smooth and you know it.
She's right up in his face at this point.
Jin
Lora, what are you...?
She takes a step back and notices the photo in the frame. She walks up to it.
Lora
Good times, smiling faces...
It's her, right? Ornelia, here.
Jin
Y-yes... Yes, I think it is.
Lora
Standing next to you, with such a goofy blissful smile?
It has to be, I'm sure of it.
Jin
Are you...?
Lora
Hey. We should take a photo.
Jin
Really?
Lora
Of us together.
The scene blinks.
Lora
Er, I'm sorry?
Suddenly she's standing in the middle of the entire party lined up for a photo, in front of the inn.
Lora
When did this become a group thing?
Me and Jin...
Teo is the one setting up the camera.
Addam
Come now, Lora.
We all drink from the same well, don't we? That's a wise saying, I think.
Minoth
I don't think that's strictly applicable here...
Mythra nods.
Haze
You can't have done this in secret, anyway.
Mikhail shakes his head. Milton's enjoying himself.
Hugo
(excited)
I've never done this before. Feels nice!
Aegaeon
Your Majesty! If I may say, it's no time for levity.
Brighid
Aegaeon, relax! You should be open to new experiences.
Aegaeon
...Gah...
Lora
Oh for... Who did we fall in with here...?
Teo
OK, ready for the photo?
Everyone say 'Glarna'!
Lora and Jin look at each other and half-smile.
Teo
There!
The photo is snapped. Everyone's personality is perfectly captured.
Later that evening, the party sits outside the inn. Lora's talking with the kids.
Lora
How long have you been with Addam?
Milton
Hmmm... Three years maybe? One year with Mythra.
When my village washed away in a flood, Addam was the one that helped us out.
Lora
Right... So it wasn't the war, then?
Milton
No, it was.
Resources were running low, so we stripped the mountain bare. That's what caused the flood.
Hey, Lora?
She makes a hm.
Milton
You were looking for your mother, right? Did you get separated during the war?
Lora
If only that were the case...
He makes a soft oh-like noise.
Lora
There are some things you don't know...about me.
Milton
Uh, things...?
Lora
Mhm...
Milton
Oh... OK...
Lora
Mother used to work as hired help.
When I was about ten, she was working as a maid. That was when Jin came into my life.
Milton
You were a Driver at ten?!
Lora
That's right. Things immediately turned bloody.
I had to get out of there in a hurry. Seventeen years later, here I am.
Milton
Wow, you don't look 27. I would've said 20 at most.
Lora
Hey. Flattery will get you everywhere.
He laughs.
Milton
Well, just like me and Mik, I guess.
Lora
Yeah. Like plenty of kids out there.
That's why I'd like to help, stand by them. Just like Jin always stood by me.
It's almost more real than real family.
Right? Don't you think, Mik?
Mik glances at her for a moment but then looks back straight ahead.
Lora
(playfully)
What, no reaction? I'm really trying here, you know!
Milton
Ah, it's fine. He's smiling on the inside.
Mik glares at him and gives him a (soft) elbow.
Lora
Well now! You can tell?
Milton
Sorta!
Lora
I see... Well, I'm feeling all inspired now.
Just the spirit we'll need if we're going to set this world to rights.
Milton
Yeah!
Mythra watches from a distance.
Addam
You can join in, you know.
Mythra
What's that?
Addam
You don't need to ostracize yourself for being an Aegis.
Mythra
That's not what I'm...
Addam
I happen to think you've got a lot going for you, you know.
She makes a noncommittal grunt.
Later, everyone's in their rooms. Lora sits on a bed, while Jin's at the table.
Lora
Should we really be bringing the kids along?
Jin's apparently writing in a book.
Jin
Are you worried?
Lora
Mhm...
Jin
Alrest is a dangerous place right now. The war reaches everywhere.
Lora
I'm sure we can keep them safe in a normal fight, but if...
Jin stops writing and sighs. Then Lora gets up.
Jin
Where are you going?
Lora
I want to speak with Addam.
Jin
At this time of night?
Lora
I'll see what he thinks about it. And if his mind is made up, there's still no harm done.
Jin nods. But just as Lora's about to open the door, there's a crash, and suddenly both Mythra and Milton are heard screaming in the next room.
Mythra
How long have you been there?!
Hey! What are you doing in my bed?
Both Lora and Jin have much concern.
Milton
Huh? What are you talking about?
There is violence. Mythra screams again.
Mythra
Get out! Interloper! Monster!
Milton
Hey, quit it!
Wh-?! This is where I sleep!
It ain't your bed, lady!
Smack.
Milton
Ow...
Ohhh you're such a pain in everyone's bum, you know that? You simpleton!
Addam
Hey, wait a minute!
Calm down, both of you... Ow!
Come on, take it down a no-no-no-NO...!
Continuous sounds of violence and general roughhousing.
Jin
(completely flat)
What's all the noise? Is something up?
Lora
Uhm... It's probably better to sit this one out...
Jin
Perhaps that's wise.
Lora
Yeah. Maybe I'll just...ask him tomorrow...
It is now tomorrow.
Lora walks up to Addam. He has a bruise on his forehead.
Lora
Uh... Morning...
Addam
Ah... Uhm... Morning!
Lora
You're hurt? Are you OK?
Addam
Yes, I imagine I'll live...
Lora
Sounded like...quite a scene.
Addam
Yes, well... I was just collateral damage...
Lora presumably asks Addam her question, as Mikhail and Milton mingle with the local kids.
Addam
Before... You said, if you met a child in whom you saw something of yourself...
you'd want to help them...
I don't have the heart to leave them here.
Lora
I know.
And they've got their own concerns.
They want to create a place for themselves in this world.
Addam
At their age, it's remarkable.
Lora
I think...it's on us to see they don't come to harm.
Addam
Right. And what a charge it is...
Mythra is sitting on the steps near them. She makes a noise with a face that implies she agrees with what they're saying.

Ready For Dannagh Desert[edit]

The entire party convenes in the village.
Addam
Right, all. Ready for a quick mosey across the desert?
That is, assuming you've all got your medicine?
Lora
Right here!
Hugo
It won't leave my side.
Addam
How about you, Milton, Mikhail?
Milton
We're all good! I've been keeping tabs on him since morning.
Addam
Then let's embrace the arid beauty of the Dannagh Desert. We'll be able to see the capital before long!
Lora
I hope we won't get lost out there.
Addam
We don't have the luxury. The capital needs to be informed of Malos's intentions as soon as possible.
Hugo
Then let us make haste!

The True Power of Torna[edit]

Having crossed the desert without incident, the party crosses Planus Bridge and step through the entrance of Auresco.
Mythra turns around.
Mythra
That's not right...
The others gather.
Milton
What's not right?
They look back where they came from, right down the middle of the Tornan Titan. It's hard to tell exactly what body part is visible.
Mythra
This Titan... Why isn't it in its real form?
Addam
You noticed?
Lora
What do you mean...?
Addam
That isn't the original form of the Tornan Titan.
A flashback begins. There's a glowing core somewhere.
Addam
In ancient times, the Tornan Titan held awesome power.
Torna made use of that power to dominate Alrest for a thousand years.
The Titan, shown to have a long dragon-like neck with glowing neck fins, fires a mouth laser that cuts through multiple other Titans, killing them so hard they just vanish instead of sinking.
The flashback ends.
Addam
But the power was shut away in the reign of Alektos the First. Since then, the Titan has looked like this.
He indicates the top of the central tower of Auresco.
Addam
See that glowing sphere in the castle tower? That forms the seal.
Hugo
Is that what Malos is aiming for?
Addam nods.
Brighid
Why would he do that? Wouldn't it be a threat to him too?
Addam
Truthfully, I don't know myself.
But in any case, if he makes a move for it, it is clear what we must do.
Lora
Agreed.
Addam
You can see the palace in the distance.
We should head there first, offer our report to His Majesty.
The intro sequence for Auresco plays.

Emergency Meeting[edit]

After working through the city, the group meets with Clemens at the castle gates.
Clemens
Lord Addam!
And Your Majesty Emperor Hugo!
I expect there must be some sort of emergency...
Quaestor Amalthus is also gracing us with his presence...
Please wait here. I'll inform the king you've arrived!

An Audience with the Tornan King[edit]

There is a long table within the palace. On one side sit Jin, Lora, Hugo, Addam, Mythra, and Haze. On the other sit Amalthus and five others. Brighid and Aegaeon stand to the side.
The two new characters in the middle of the table have unique designs, so they must be important. The one on the left looks older and has a serious look, while the one on the right looks more like a schemer. The older speaks.
Older man
Malos aims for the seal...?
Hugo
Yes. He draws ever closer to the capital.
Leaving destruction in his wake.
Mikhail and Milton become visible in the back, sitting in loose chairs behind Brighid.
Hugo
Our path here was littered with the wounds of his procession, my Lord.
We shall assume from this address that the older man is the King of Torna. We never do get a name for him.
Tornan King
So the Quaestor's report was true.
Noble Hugo.
At this time of grave peril, you have afforded us your trusty aid.
Your due will be our eternal thanks.
He bows his head. The others on his side of the table follow, through the younger man is both reluctant and overcompensating with it.
Hugo
I'm scarcely worthy of it, Your Majesty.
As the Titans breathe, I merely followed Prince Addam against the peril we face.
In truth, it is to him that your kind praise is due.
Tornan King
Ah, the trust of the dread Ardainian throne...
'Tis a much valued gift to our young scion of Aletta. Mark it well.
The younger man now looks upset and glares at Addam. Up close, he's seen to be wearing a headpiece that looks very similar to that of Genbu in the main game.
Tornan King
It gladdens me.
Addam
Your most noble honors pierce my unworthy heart, my Lord.
The younger man now speaks up.
Younger man
Begging your pardon, Lord... Would that honor were the only currency in this grave business.
An armed band transgressed the sacred boundaries of the capital, without regal assent.
The act merits bitter punishment!
Tornan King
Suppose you that our soldiers can subdue Malos alone?
Younger man
I...I don't...
Tornan King
Indeed...
The army of resistance fearlessly dashes to our nation's aid.
They tremble not in the face of the mightiest of foes. To punish them is unthinkable.
Younger man
Yes...but...
A firmly-raised hand cuts him off. He's not happy about it.
Tornan King
Zettar. What does not bend, only breaks.
We must suffer to Addam his just bounty.
I hereby enfeoff you, as Lord of Heblin.
This makes Zettar even angrier, but he says nothing. Given the few bits of info said about Zettar earlier in the story, this is no surprise.
Addam
This is too much for me, my Lord.
First, I must busy myself with the command of the resistance force.
We can't allow Malos to take the seal.
I'd be much obliged if you could grant permission for the resistance to move freely within your lands, Lord.
Tornan King
As you wish. Brave soldiers of Torna! Hear your king!
Our country must make its own sacrifice to halt the terrible power of the Aegis!
Amalthus
Indol too, pledges its flesh and blood to the cause.
I humbly confess that it was my own lack of foresight which brought us to this pass.
The party leaves the castle, with Minoth waiting for them outside. Only the King and Zettar remain in the meeting room, looking out the balcony.
Zettar
(barely-contained frustration)
My brother.
Or rather, my Lord. What is your aim? Why give Heblin to Addam?
Tornan King
He has declined our offer. Perhaps our good wishes suffice.
Zettar
Yet still, he holds all the power!
He makes allies of foreign lords without permission, and gathers together a fighting force...
The King makes a long, half-growl of a sigh.
Tornan King
Zettar, my brother. Hear me well.
This sickened world rests heavy upon my crown. I fear, too heavy for my mortal neck.
Zettar
Ma-Majesty!
Tornan King
And this disorderly throne...
...is more apt for one such as Addam.
This makes Zettar predictably angry.
Zettar
Brother! You mean to set my birthright on the caitiff's shoulders?!

Community Service[edit]

The party is gathered in the Sachsum Gardens. Minoth hasn't rejoined them quite yet.
Lora
Guahhh! I can finally breathe!
Now Minoth arrives, the bum.
Minoth
What's wrong? You got asthma or something?
Haze
It's all right, there's no need for concern.
Lady Lora gets like this whenever she has to deal with formal situations.
Minoth
That's...not ideal.
Lora
You're one to talk! You've been waiting outside the whole time, just idling by yourself! That's so selfish!
Addam
Cut him some slack, Lora.
Minoth had good reason not to go. Especially when his least favorite individual was attending.
Lora
Least favorite...
Wait... You mean Amalthus, don't you?
Minoth
...
Lora
I'm sorry. I didn't...
Minoth
It's fine. I'm a coward, I admit it.
Hugo
We should endeavor to make sure that Minoth steers well clear of the Quaestor in future.
So, Addam, what's our next course of action?
We may have warned them in time, but there's no telling when Malos might launch his attack.
Addam
Indeed. We can start by taking a stroll around the city and seeing what the residents have to say.
Mythra
You can't be serious. Malos is virtually breathing down our necks and you wanna waste time catching up?!
Jin
That's not what this is. We'd get to learn the lay of the land too. And we'd get an idea of the overall mood.
Brighid
He's right.
Establishing a good rapport with the residents will give us an edge when the time comes.
Aegaeon
Perhaps the Aegis feels that she can handle the situation all on her own...?
Mythra
Fine. Whatever. You all know better than me, so go on ahead!
Bunch of bullies...
Addam
We're not saying it to be mean, Mythra.
We all have to make concessions, and I think even you understand that now. You've really matured, you know.
Mythra
Am I supposed to take that as a compliment?
Lora
You should. Addam's been looking out for you this whole time. You know he's being honest.
Hugo
Agreed. You should take his praise at face value.
Now, let's set to exploring the city. Plenty of atmosphere to soak up!

Auresco Under Fire[edit]

Having been given the runaround to pad out this DLC, the party eventually ends up back in the Sachsum Gardens. Suddenly, the palace is under attack by purple explosions.
Aegaeon looks up into the sky.
Aegaeon
Majesty! Those are...
A bunch of Gargoyles are flying around, shooting things in the city. More are on the ground.
Mythra
Gargoyles. Malos's Artifices.
Addam
Mythra! Let's go!
Mythra
Yeah!
The group starts to move out. Lora turns to the kids.
Lora
You should wait here.
They nod and stay behind as the party runs off towards the burning buildings.

Organizing the Defense[edit]

The group takes stock of the situation.
Addam
How did his Artifices make it all the way to the palace?!
Mythra
What's the plan? You wanna use my power?
Addam
No, there'd be too many casualties. It won't be easy, but we'll need to take them out one by one.
Lora
Shouldn't we be trying to escort the civilians to safety?
Hugo
The Tornan army is already working on the evacuation. They know the city's layout far better than us.
Lora
Ah, right. Best leave it to them, then.
OK, so what now?
Addam
They haven't broken through the rear yet, so we can start by clearing out the Gargoyles in the residential ward.
After that, we can head over to the shopping ward on the left-hand side...
and then work our way straight towards the front entrance.
Mythra
Got it.
Addam
Best of luck, everyone. Now let's get these ugly mugs off our damn doorstep!

Residential Ward Cleared[edit]

The Gargoyle near the Viridian Gate has been taken out.
Haze
That was not at all easy...
Lora
Tell me about it! But we have to keep on going. There's no other way!
Addam
That's the spirit!
Lora
We have to move on to the shopping ward now. Come on!

Shopping Ward Cleared[edit]

Another big angry mech is down, this time in the Formide Shopping Ward.
Minoth
These Artifices are a right handful. Even I'm having trouble with 'em!
Brighid
The sheer number of them is daunting, to say the least.
Hugo
We've no time to rest. We need to press on!
Addam
As you say. Now, on to the main gate!

Main Gate Cleared[edit]

A third Gargoyle, this one at the Main Gate, has been taken down.
Addam
Tch! There's no end to them!
Hugo looks up.
Hugo
Look!
A new group of Gargoyles lands on the buildings surrounding the Sachsum Gardens.
Lora
They're gathering in the direction of the gardens...
Mythra
Bizarre. Let's move!

Malos Shows Himself[edit]

The party hustles into the Sachsum Gardens. Malos is just chillin' in front of the castle entrance. He turns to face them.
Malos
Hello, partner. This is a first.
Mythra
Malos...
Jin
So this is the Aegis... Malos...
Aegaeon
He has an awesome presence...
We would do well to proceed with caution...
Brighid
Agreed...
Mythra
Your MO is different this time, Malos. What are you trying to do?
If this is a joke, it's not funny.
Malos
I got bored of it.
Mythra
...Bored?
Malos
(flippantly)
Letting Siren have all the fun got old, I mean.
I wanted to see the humans dance. The dance of death, in the flames of hellfire.
Mythra
What do you...?
Malos
That.
He looks up to where the seal sits atop the palace.
Malos
I know full well what the Tornan Titan truly is.
I've decided... I'm gonna lay that truth bare, for everyone to see.
Addam
Malos... Bastard!
Malos
Each of the Artifices I command...
...holds ether energy that would rival even the largest Titan.
A "what if" starts to play. A large swarm of Gargoyles flies through the sky.
Malos
Imagine if a legion of them made it to the core of the Tornan Titan and unleashed that energy all at once...
The Gargoyles fly towards the exposed core of the Tornan Titan, now seen to be at the point where its neck meets its body. There's an explosion.
The "what if" ends. Malos spawns his sword.
Malos
Our time for dancing would be short, but sweet.
Addam makes a "Guh!" as he draws his sword.
Malos
(with increasing intensity)
You want me to stop?
Had enough? Then try and make me.
C'mon. Come at me!
Everyone else readies themselves.

Clashing Steel[edit]

Addam and Malos are 1v1'ing.
Malos
Addam Origo!
Malos
Heir of Torna!
Looks like that resonance isn't just for show.
Addam
You're too kind.
They clash blades. Malos gets a good look at Addam's face.
Malos
(mockingly)
Golden eyes...
I thought Tornans all had blue eyes.
You're a bastard, is that it?
Addam
My father is generous.
He pays no attention to things like that.
They push off and stand down.
Malos
Hah! You're wrong.
You don't understand the consequences.
Addam
Don't I?
Malos
And you don't understand what humans are.
Addam
(with a sarcastic point)
Malos, the all-knowing...
Malos
(owning it)
A diligent student, you could say.
Addam
Then learn this.
Addam puts his sword away. Malos makes a confused huh.
Addam
Mythra!
Mythra
Heads up!
She throws the Aegis Sword at Addam. He catches it, yells, and resumes fighting Malos. The two have a grand old time just barely missing slashing each other in the face in cool slow-motion shots. Aftetr a bit, Addam tosses the sword up, where Mythra catches it in the air.
Mythra
Here goes!
She proceeds to fight Malos, making liberal use of teleportation. It stops after a short time as she backs off.
Malos
(vaguely impressed)
Nice trick.
Holds my interest at least.
Mythra
Surprised?
This is what humans and Blades can do together.
Addam
But you threw that away...[7]
Haze attempts to use her power on Malos. For a moment he grunts and staggers as the party closes in, but then he remains composure.
Malos
I don't need that crap. Better off without it.
He uses his Aegis power to shake it off, before engaging with the entire rest of the party in sequence. He clashes blades with Jin and smirks at his business-like expression for a moment before pushing him away.
Malos
Eat this!
He punches the ground, unleashing a wave of darkness that bowls everyone over. He then points his sword skyward, summoning two Gargoyles from above, and starts to casually saunter through the party as they slowly get up.
Malos
Watch humans closely, and you'll learn one thing.
Deep down, they wish they were dead.
They kill each other like they swat flies.
Running towards oblivion like blind rats.
They see the divine flame of life and piss over it. They're genius at that.
In a class all of their own, really.
Mythra
Malos.
Malos
Oh...
That flame is wasted on them.
So I... I want to give them a little push in the right direction.
As the benevolent servant of our "wise dad" should...
Another Gargoyle swoops down. Lora gasps. Malos grabs onto it mid-sweep, taking him away.
Malos
Here, keep yourselves entertained.
I'll go get what I came for.
The one Gargoyle flies up to the seal while the two on the ground face the group.

The Taking of the Seal[edit]

There's way more than two Gargoyles on the party now.
Hugo
(urgently)
Addam.
Addam
Yes, I know.
One of them steps up and winds up its claws, but it gets blasted by a set of fireballs from the sky and destroyed. A familiar cry echoes down as Azurda soars down and clears out another with a headbutt as he lands. He's a bit smaller than in the base game, but he otherwise looks the same.
Addam
(hey buddy)
Nuncle!
Azurda
Get on! We'll hunt him down!
Addam
At once!
The scene skips slightly to where Addam, Mythra, Lora, and Jin are all on Azurda's back high up in the air. Beams from Malos's distant Siren come down, but Azurda dodges them.
Lora
Over there! Malos!
Malos is standing on the seal tower with the orb in his hand.
Malos
Too slow. It's already mine.
Lora
Malos!
He points at them like "yeah I got you good".
Malos
The looks on your faces!
The hand moves to his chin as he thinks.
Malos
Huh... Well, that settles it.
He holds up the seal orb like a Zelda character. Addam goes "Uh?".
Malos
The end of the world is postponed a little, folks.
If you want to take this off me, come find me in the Titan's core.
That'll be the finale.
Mythra
(frustrated)
Is this a game to you?
Malos
(irreverent as hell)
Yeah, it's a game. An easy cure for the tedium...of being.
He casually juggles the orb around a bit. Mythra emits a disgusted "Ugh...".
Malos
See you later, partner.
He spins around and T-poses backwards off the ledge. Azurda shoots a fireball at him as he falls, but a flying Gargoyle picks him up and takes him away.
Malos
(mocking yell)
Don't be late!
Malos's Siren fires to prevent Azurda from giving chase.
Auresco is a mess, but a salvageable one. Azurda stands in the gardens with the rest of the party.
Azurda
Sorry, I let him escape.
Addam
No, thank you... You saved us.
Azurda
You owe me one then.
He turns his attention to Jin.
Azurda
It's been 80 years, hasn't it, Jin?
Jin
You know me?
Azurda
You and Ornelia used to ride on my back. We used to have a lark, flying about.
Lora
Ornelia... From the photograph?
Azurda
And I suppose she's your Driver now?
Lora
My name's Lora. I've been with Jin for 17 years already.
Azurda
I never...
You were fortunate to be picked up by her, Jin.
Lora and Jin look at each other, unsure how to take that.
Addam
Nuncle... We're just in the way here. Perhaps we should leave it to the soldiers and just go.
Azurda
Yes, let's do that.
Shall we head for the Tornan womb?
Addam
Yes. I'd say we're bound to.
Lora
The Tornan womb?
Azurda
Perhaps I should go first.
There's a rumbling and flapping of wings. Clearly they didn't want to have to animate Azurda-as-an-NPC taking off, because it's entirely offscreen.
Addam
Please, go ahead. We will join you, once we've made a report to the king.

A Report to the King[edit]

Clemens waits in front of the palace as usual.
Clemens
Lord Addam, to think the Tornan seal would fall into the Aegis's hands...
He was even scarier than I thought.
I was no match for someone that evil.
There's no way I could have stopped him attacking the city...
But I'll still regret it to my dying day.
Oh, I'm sorry. You must have come to report to the king, and now I've held you up with my chatter...
I won't hold you up any longer.

Aftershocks[edit]

The scene opens with Zettar's mouth taking up the entire screen. c'mon dude zoom out just a bit
Zettar
What good was your militia?
The camera steps back far enough to see he's sitting in the same meeting room as last time we saw him.
Zettar
They could not halt Malos, nor even safeguard the seal from his clutches.
We start to see enough of other people in the shots to follow that it's a safe bet everyone is stationed in the same places as the previous meeting.
Addam
I have no excuses.
He bows his head.
Lora
Addam...
Zettar
Hmph.
Zettar turns to the King.
Zettar
Majesty. This is a deep dishonor.
Minoth is apparently standing off to the side, nearest Aegaeon. Amalthus must not be here this time.
Zettar
I beseech you to lay them low, that the people may have faith in government!
The King thinks silently.
Zettar
(impatiently)
Majesty!
Tornan King
Brother, your advice is wise.
Jin is unimpressed.
Hugo
(preparing a rebuttal)
Your Majesty...
Lora
Please, wait a moment.
Addam only sought to protect your realm.
Zettar
(a bit too much anger)
Silence! Is your voice more important than the king's?
Lora takes the shame and looks down. It's confirmed that Amalthus is indeed not present. There's a pause. Zettar looks very pleased about getting his way.
Tornan King
But what of you, Zettar?
Zettar
(confused)
What of me?
Tornan King
Look first to yourself, I bid you.
Zettar
W-what do you mean...?
Tornan King
Surely, Addam sailed the ship into a rocky reef.
But if he were the bow, you were the stern.
Zettar
Y-Your Majesty, those are bitter words.
It was Addam's vanguard that let slip Malos!
Tornan King
Would our army have succeeded with certainty, brother?
In the hour of need, where were they?
Zettar
(losing eye contact)
W-we set the defense of the people as our highest goal, Your Majesty.
Our soldiers guided the townsfolk to safety.
Tornan King
...While Addam's militia flew, though rashly, into the breach.
And the brave dragoons of noble Hugo wagered their lives as mere trifles for our nation's sake.
Zettar
B-but...I...
Tornan King
It unfolded thus.
If honor took its natural course, the sons of Torna should have stood their ground.
Zettar looks down and sighs. He's not getting his way anymore.
Tornan King
Mark their honor above their frailty.
You saw the battle with your own eyes, did you not, my brother?
Zettar
I-I did...
Tornan King
And how did you think it?
Zettar
Words can scarcely describe it.
It was unlike any mere human struggle. I fear I could not report it justly.
Tornan King
Indeed, brother.
Zettar makes a "?" sound.
Tornan King
It was a fight beyond our ken.
I too saw it with my own eyes.
Our Tornan crafts of war would have been doubly doomed against Malos.
Zettar
That's...
Tornan King
Is it not folly to assume that our army could do what Addam's could not?
Addam
Your Majesty...
Zettar pouts.
Tornan King
Noble Hugo... My brother forgets grace and gratitude.
Our nation hangs over doom like a ripened fruit.
You and yours are our final ray of hope.
Will you offer us aid again, to avenge ourselves on the Aegis?
The Torna side of the table bows their heads.
Hugo
We came with that very intention, Your Majesty.
Didn't we, Prince Addam?
Addam
Yes.
Majesty...
If it must be so, I will expend my life for the future of the land of my forefathers.
The King nods.
Tornan King
While we're here...
Your name is Lora, is it not?
Lora
Huh, me? Y-yes!
Tornan King
Your work impressed me deeply.
Lora
No...I...
Tornan King
Yet you are no knight, bear no peerage...
Lora
Yes... I'm from a settlement in the distant borderlands.
I serve with a mercenary band.
Tornan King
I knew you for a warrior.
Good Lora. I would like to recognize your valiant labors.
The title of knight of the realm... It is yours, if you would accept it.
Lora is taken aback.
Lora
Me, a knight?
The King nods.
Addam
Lora, my congratulations.
Lora
I can hardly believe it... Me?
Addam
Come now. A title is a mere decoration.
Surely you learned that from me.
Hugo
I hope it will raise your spirits a little, Lora.
She turns to Jin. He just looks back, with no indication of opinion.
Tornan King
Humble Lora. I have a request I must make of you.
This day, the people of our nation shiver in the darkest of shadows, cast by mighty Malos.
But I bid that you seed a flower of hope in this shadow-mired land.
She turns back to the others. Hugo, Addam, and Haze all nod.
Lora
I hope that I can.
Jin finally nods. She nods back.
Lora
Your Majesty...
I'll do my best.
Tornan King
Well spoken, brave Lora.
We shall annoint thee as Lady Lora tomorrow in the plaza before the palace!

Catching up to Azurda[edit]

Having escaped the palace once more, the party stands in front of the entrance.
Addam
Come on. We shouldn't keep our old friend waiting any longer. Time for us to make a move.
Lora
The Tornan womb, he said. So is that going to be inside the titan's belly?
Addam
You'll know soon enough.
Lora
This isn't the time for games, you know.
Hugo
It would have to be a cavity of considerable size for Azurda to fit inside.
Addam
It would.
We should head for the front entrance, then turn left. That way we'll come to a back gate.
If we head down past there, it should take us to the womb's entrance.
Lora
OK. We'd better catch up to Azurda then!

In the Place of Rebirth[edit]

The party has entered Torna's Womb. Glowing green eggs surround the center of the room with Blades partially visible inside, placed on artificial pedestals. Azurda is waiting.
Lora
What an incredible place...
Addam
It's the matrix of our Titan.
Lora
What does...?
Addam
When the time comes, this is where Blades come to be reborn as Titans.
Lora makes a breathy "Huh?!" sort of sound.
Brighid
You mean we'll all become Titans some day?
Addam nods.
Azurda
It's nice to be here again.
After 800 years...
Haze
Were you born here too, Azurda?
Azurda
Mhm! After all, I was a Blade born from the Tornan Titan.
Of course, I don't have any memories of that time...
Once a Blade becomes a Titan, they can live without being bound to the Driver who awoke them.
He focuses on a gold relief on the wall. At the root of the tree diagram are two Common Blades, one male and one female. On the lower branches are shapes reminiscent of the Titans of Gormott, Torna, Tantal, Mor Ardain, and two less-recognizable others. The shapes on the upper branches are less clear but seem more akin to typical animals and monsters.
Azurda
One day, they may come to watch over their children, as the very ground beneath their feet.
Addam
And the fleeting bonds become eternal.
It's the basis of the Tornan creed.
Jin
Eternal bonds...
Hugo
So... What now?
Brighid
Malos said he was going to wait...
Aegaeon
But can we really believe him?
Mythra
I don't think he lied.
Jin
Why so?
Mythra
He was enjoying himself. That's why.
I'd say, he's having way too much fun to stop right now.
Minoth
He said that humans long for death.
Lora
...And that he was happy to oblige.
Jin
Benevolent servant...*scoff*.
Mythra hmms.

Award Ceremony Preparations[edit]

The group has left the room.
Lora
So, any plans for the rest of the day?
Jin
You've got your award ceremony tomorrow. Best not to get carried away.
Lora
Oh...right.
Addam
Jin's got a point.
You can take a walk around town if you like, but in all honesty, we'd be better off standing by at the inn.
Hugo
Yes, we don't know when we might be next called upon.
Lora
So no one's in the mood to go out. Well, I don't blame them.
Am I the only one nervous about the award ceremony? I don't even know what to wear!

Words[edit]

It's evening at the Spefan Inn. Lora is doing some crafting, while Jin is writing in his diary.
Lora
Hey, Jin.
Jin silently puts down his quill and turns to face her.
Lora
That mask... You don't need it anymore.
His mask is currently sitting on the table. He picks it up.
Jin
Yeah... Since you're a knight of Torna now.
There's no danger of getting in trouble for resonating with a stolen core.
Lora
What should we do? With that...
Jin
Nothing, I think. I think I'll keep wearing it.
You went to all the trouble of making it for me.
He puts it back down.
Lora
Yeah...
I mean...
Jin prompts her to continue with a huh-like noise.
Lora
Someday, I'll die... And just like that, you'll return to your crystal.
Even if you forget everybody...
At least you might... be able to keep the mask that I made you...
Jin
...Lora.
Lora
But... I imagine that day's still a long way off. So don't worry.
She goes back to what she was working on. Jin closes his eyes and thinks.
Jin
If I were a praying man, I'd pray this journal finds its way to you.
He remembers reading his words from the diary in the old house, while the game also shows him writing the words.
Jin
Trusting that it will, I will use these last words to pass down...
a means of carving the bond between myself and my partner into this flesh.
This is how it is done...
He forces himself back to the present and shakes his head.[8]
It is noon the next day. The party, the King, and a contingent of citizens are in the gardens in front of the palace; Zettar and Amalthus are way over there in the corner. It's a reprise of a flashback from the main game's chapter 8. Addam steps forward and pins a medal on Lora's chest. Everyone applauds.
Lora
So, I'm officially a Tornan Driver now.
She turns to Jin.
Lora
OK... Let's make some memories!
The scene steps over to Zettar and Amalthus in the corner.
Amalthus
Addam's star is rising. It seems that the people love him.
Zettar
Hmph.
...and naught but the fruit of the king's whimsy and an obscure woman...
Amalthus
(hate him that much, do you)
Ah...
Addam is making an unheard speech.
Zettar
Yet if only he were not the Driver of the Aegis...
Amalthus
...you'd each have your just share of dignity.
A flashback plays. Mythra's Core Crystal floats before Zettar, in the meeting room of Torna. Amalthus, Addam, and the King are also present. Zettar attempts to resonate with the Aegis, but fails, falling back. Amalthus and the King are disappointed as Addam tends to him. The flashback ends there, but it's not a stretch to assume that Addam resonates with it shortly after.
Zettar
Quaestor, is it really true that...
Amalthus
Certainly, I did give life to Malos... but when he acts...
It's divine will.
Zettar
(incredulous)
The destruction of the world is the will of the divine...?
Amalthus
Indeed it is.
Malos is the instrument of destruction.
Making the Architect's will immanent takes many able hands.
Zettar doesn't seem to like the way Amalthus said that.
That night, Jin goes to see Azurda in the Womb. He looks over the Blades in their eggs.
Jin
It may be this is exactly what they wanted. Become Titans, have a longer life with humans...
Azurda chuckles. Jin replies with a "Huh?".
Azurda
Oh, nothing. I was just remembering the previous time you said that.
Jin
I did?
Azurda
My reply was, 'how about you?'...
And what do you think you said?
Jin hmmmms.
Jin
I don't wish for "forever". All I want is my life with her. That's plenty.
Azurda verbally nods.
Azurda
Spoken like a true Blade. No one can begrudge you that.
Jin
I wonder how it was for you...
Azurda
Well, honestly... I suppose I may well have been just like you, Jin.
Still...
Jin
Still?
Azurda
Being like this isn't so bad either.
After some years, or centuries, you find yourself ready for new relationships.
I came to realize that.
Jin
...New relationships...

Community Expectations[edit]

Jin rejoins the rest of the group outside the inn.
Lora
Jin, there you are! Where've you been?
Jin
The capital's outskirts. I wanted to pick some ingredients.
Lora
Oh, you are joking. This is the capital we're in!
It's packed to bursting with high-class nosh around here! Why're you still going around foraging in the dirt?
Addam
On the other hand, Jin's cooking really is unparalleled, and there is a certain appeal in making food yourself.
Lora
Yeah, OK, that's...
...That's spot-on, actually...
Jin
So... I spoke briefly with Azurda.
Lora
Oh, really? What did he say?
Jin
...It was a difficult subject for me to wrap my head around.
Jin
...
New relationships...? No. I'm more than happy with what I have right now...
Lora expects him to continue, but he doesn't.
Addam
All right, time to draw up some plans.
To get the seal back, we'll have to make our way to the Tornan core. Question is, what then?
Hugo
Malos implied that we still have some time. Mythra seems to believe we can take him at his word.
Mythra
You can, yeah.
Addam
He's enjoying this, is he? Damn him...
Hugo
I know how you feel, Addam, but perhaps we should be thankful. His own hubris has allowed us this chance.
Addam
We'll use the time we've got to prepare for the battle ahead.
Lora
Right. We need to be stronger still, or we'll never make it through this.
Hugo
The citizens are in fear of what may befall them.
I believe you are best equipped to give them the strength they need, Lora.
Lora
What, me?!
Hugo
Yes. You are properly a Tornan knight now.
A knight is not called upon solely for their skill in combat. It is also their duty to instill courage, and hope.
You must hold your head high, and serve the needs of your nation.
Lora
The needs of my nation...
Addam
Feels like the whole world's resting on your shoulders, doesn't it?
It's not, though. Remember, you're not the only one fighting to protect this country.
We're a strange gaggle of misfits, I admit, but we'll carry that burden with you.
Torna lives and dies by its people. We fight for it together, every one of us.
Lora
Right... Give me a moment. I know there's not much time but I'll... I'll see what I can do...

Ready to Proceed[edit]

Having finally trudged through the blatant padding, the party finds a cutscene at Auresco's main gate.
Hugo
It looks as if we're almost ready to proceed with the evacuation.
Addam
If it wasn't for all your support, we might never have been able to pull this off. I thank you, in the name of Torna.
Lora
I don't know why you're thanking me. I'm a knight now, remember?
And you know what else?
Jin
...
Lora
I'm really starting to like this place.
You get to see so many different walks of life here. It's a real melting pot.
Jin
I've noticed that. So many intertwining lives, all together in one place...
Hugo
I have felt the same about the cities of Mor Ardain. There is much to like about their urban environs.
Lora
You're making me want to pay a visit now!
Addam
Then we can all go together. We'll finish off Malos and take Hugo back home personally.
Lora
Oh, yes please!
Hugo
We will welcome you with open arms. The streets will be awash with cheer!
Lora
Uh, I'd appreciate it if we could skip any of the formal stuff...
...Hey. Listen...
Do you think we'll...even stand a chance? Against Malos?
Minoth
Haven't a clue. His power seems so far off the charts, I couldn't even guess.
Mythra
He still has his limits. And besides...
Addam's never been able to handle me as effectively as he can now.
Milton
That's right! Master Addam's more than prepared to take that creep down now!
And we'll be right there to watch it happen! Won't we, Mik?
Mikhail
We've come this far... May as well go see it through...
Addam
Those lads...
Mythra
You're not serious?
Do you know how dangerous it is to be even remotely near Malos?
Just by tagging along with us, you're putting your lives on the line!
Milton
Oh, and I suppose we've been perfectly safe up till now as well, have we? We know what we're getting into, OK?!
Mythra
You don't know what you're talking about!
Addam
Mythra, drop it. Come on, let's head back to the inn.
I want to get a good night's sleep before the decisive battle.
Hugo
Very wise.
Addam
I'll really have to talk this through with Mikhail and Milton...

That Which We Must Do[edit]

The party stands in front of the inn.
Addam
Malos is heading for Torna's core.
In the original configuration, the core is in the Titan's thorax.
Hugo
But the Titan hasn't shown signs of transforming yet...
Minoth
You think the Aegis is taking...a nap, or something?
Addam
That would be fortunate for us...
He turns to look into the distance, towards the Titan's head.
Addam
That mountain ridge makes up the upper body. That's where the core should appear...
It will take some time before the troops are organized.
Let us go on ahead. We depart in the morning.
The scene skips ahead to the evening, inside the inn.
Milton
This sucks!
House-sitting in the capital?
I wanna go with you!
Milton is crying. He's taking this very poorly. On the other hand, Mikhail seems fine with it, and would rather Milton shut up.
Mikhail
Here we go... Way lame...
Addam
The battle ahead is unlike any we've known before.
Please remember that.
Milton
Jin, can't you tell them?
I swear, we won't get in the way!
Jin
No. In this battle, you'd be a distraction.
Milton looses a frustrated "Ugh!".
Mikhail
(in agreement)
One way to put it...
Jin
Milton, you'll be a great help to Addam if you stay in the capital.
Milton seethes, in the both-sad-and-angry way.
Mythra
(oddly non-confrontational)
C'mon. Don't you get it?
You're not hearing them.
People are surprised that Mythra's being nice about it, instead of being Mythra about it.
Mythra
OK?
You'd be no help on the battlefield.
In fact... Protecting you from Malos would take all my energy.
But...hey.
I mean, if you stay here and keep Mikhail out of trouble...
We'll be able to fight the way we should.
That's what they're saying.
Mikhail
I don't need looking after.
Mik was just trying to set the record straight. Mythra glares daggers at him for undermining her attempt.
Mikhail
(afeared)
U-uwaa...!
She turns back to Milton.
Mythra
See?
Jin
You understand, don't you?
What you need to do to help Addam.
Milton attempts to steady his breathing.
Milton
Make me a promise.
That you'll kill Malos! And bring Addam back no matter what!
Jin
Yeah. I promise.
Mythra
Great. Then we each know what we have to do.
Milton nods. His face clears up.
Later that evening, Jin is back on the writing.
Mythra
Hmmm. Surprisingly diligent.
Mythra walks up to the table with a teacup.
Jin
(I'm busy)
You need some help?
Mythra
Nah. Just killing time.
She sits down.
Jin
If you want to talk, I'm not sure I'm your guy.
Mythra
Keeping a journal, huh? Brighid's into it too. Is that like a thing now?
Jin
Who knows?
He puts the quill down.
Jin
I am what I am, and so is she.
Mythra
You know when your Driver dies, you'll return to your core.
It feels kinda futile.
Jin
There's nothing strange about wanting to know who you used to be, once you reawaken.
Mythra
You can't be sure you'll even find it though, right?
Jin
Even so...
Nothing's for certain, but it's some hope at least.
That's a Blade's lot.
Mythra
But what's the point?
Jin
To keep the bond with your Driver alive.
Mythra
The bond...?
Jin
I guess that's a little difficult for you to understand.
Mythra
Hey, don't be mean.
You make it sound like I have no heart.
Jin makes a breathy "heh.".
Mythra
What...?
Jin
What I meant was...
The true connection that's meant for you... I don't think you'll find it here.
Mythra
But, Addam's my Driver...
Jin
Sure, he is, but I feel it's not the same, somehow.
Mythra
Huh?
Jin
Your real affinity lies in the future, not in the time we're in now.
I just feel that in my bones.
Call it... Blade's intuition.
Mythra
Sounds kinda vague.
She idly runs her finger around the rim of the teacup.
Jin
To change the subject, thanks for before.
Mythra
For what?
Jin
I didn't expect it...
Mythra
You were both so hopeless with the kids.
So hopeless I couldn't just watch.
Jin makes another "Huh.".
Jin
I'll consider myself told...
The next morning, the party leaves the inn and walks down the street. The King and Zettar watch. Milton and Mikhail run after them, but stop short. Mythra turns to acknowledge them as they pass the gate.
At the base of the Titan's neck mountains, Malos stands in front of a pedestal. He places the seal orb into it. It glows and crackles as the mountains lift up, revealing the immense blue core. The Titan's wings unfurl as etheral feathers fade into existence, not just from the wings but its tail and neck. It roars.
The party would have a hard time not noticing any of this.
Lora
That's...
Jin
...The Tornan Titan's true form.
Hugo
Is Malos there...?
Addam
There's no time! Keep moving!

Malos Awaits...[edit]

The group has climbed the Sacred Staircase to reach the Holy Gate of Altana, leading to the Titan's interior.
Addam
Malos will be waiting inside...
Hugo
I believe so. But it's got me thinking.
What is his aim in doing this? Can it just be carnage for its own sake...?
Addam
Mythra... Maybe you understand this better, as an Aegis.
Mythra
No. I might have the same power. But that's all we have in common.
Addam
Could it be a reflection of something in the depths of Amalthus's mind, perhaps?
Mythra
I really don't know.
Addam hmms.
Lora
Addam?
Addam
Let's go. We can't afford to give him any more time...
I've got a bad feeling.

Before the Storm[edit]

The party has climbed up to The Soaring Rostrum.
Mythra
...Malos is close. I can sense him.
Addam
So this is it then. The final battle.
Hugo
What shall we do? We may never get another chance like this.
Lora
Yeah...
If you go any further, there will be no turning back. Falling in battle will mean restarting from the title screen.
Your game will be saved before the final battle begins.
Proceed to the final battle?
Proceed
Skip down to the rest of the script from here.
Not yet...
Hugo
Indeed, you are wise to be cautious.
Addam
Agreed. This is a battle we simply can't lose. If we're going to confront Malos, we need to be at peak performance.
The scene ends there.
Hugo
All right then. I, too, think it is time for us to make a stand.
Aegaeon
Think only of the battle, Majesty. Brighid and I are here to protect you to the end.
Brighid
Indeed, we, the Jewels of Mor Ardain, are sworn to serve you, for now and for ever.
Hugo
Brighid, Aegaeon... I trust you with my life.
Brighid
I will write of this battle in my journal. It will be a story for the ages.
Mythra
Yeah, with the power we command, there is absolutely no way we can lose.
Minoth
Who needs modesty, eh, Aegis? Though I suppose you of all people probably don't, come to think of it...
Mythra
Malos and I may be evenly matched, but with all of you by my side, it tips the balance.
He's got no one but himself to rely on. And that's why he's going down.
Addam
Mythra... You've really changed.
Mythra
Oh...y-you think? Wonder who's to blame for that. You Drivers must really rub off on people...
Minoth
It's not just that. Hell, if that were the case, I'd be some kind of street preacher by now.
Addam
When you put it that way, I can't help feeling just the slightest twinge of pity for our dear Quaestor.
Haze
I'm sorry, but I must sympathize with Minoth. I couldn't imagine having to be the Blade of such a horrid man...
Jin
It's true. The rest of us are lucky to have such caring Drivers...like Lora.
Addam
I'll have you know, we're just as lucky to have such loyal companions by our side, Jin.
Hugo
I couldn't have put it better.
Lora
Thank you, Jin... Thank you, everyone...
Right! Let's knock Malos off his high horse and then get ourselves out of here, back to the boys!

Gathering Storm[edit]

The party crosses the terrace of the Rostrum to reach the Titan's core. Malos then appears behind them.
Malos
You got here fast. I thought you'd jump ship with the rest of the rats.
Mythra
Tornans are braver than you think, Malos. Nobody here is scared of you!
Malos
Heh.
He looks up into the sky. The others follow his gaze to see an immense swarm of Gargoyles flying towards them.
Lora
Look!
Addam
Yes, I can see it!
The mechs approach, still quite a long way away.
Malos
Ten minutes to go.
Ten minutes before my Gargoyles overrun the core entirely.
If you can take me down, that means you win. If you can't...
Well. End of story.
Mythra
Aren't you smug?
A pair of Artifices appear to assist Malos. They aren't Gargoyles - they're Colossi.
Malos
We were born into this stinking world. Might as well have some fun.
Life...
or death.
Not much of a choice.
Everyone draws their weapons.
Malos
But you gotta choose, partner.

White and Black[edit]

It's high noon. The Colossi have been felled, while Addam duels Malos. The Gargoyles begin to arrive, landing on and then absorbing themselves into the Titan's core. It begins to change from blue to violet.
Lora
Addam! The Gargoyles!
Addam
I see them!
But...
Mythra fires a projectile at Malos as he runs at her. They clash swords.
Malos
What's wrong? That all you got?
Mythra ducks under his next attacks and does a flip kick to his chin, hopping away at the same time. She laughs at him.
Mythra
Oh, I got plenty. I think it's time to smash your toys!
Malos goes "Huh?".
Mythra
The big robotic serpent emerges from the Cloud Sea. Malos gasps in surprise.
Mythra
You know, preparation is everything, Malos!
Ophion sets up and fires its mouth laser, cutting a swath through the field of Gargoyles. It follows this up by releasing a bunch of missiles, then lunging itself at the swarm.
Malos
(back to being smug)
Nice. That's my partner.
Shame you only have one.
It won't be enough!
Additional Gargoyles emerge from the Cloud Sea.
Mythra
You hid them in the clouds?
Malos
Preparation is everything. Like you said, partner.
The surprise Gargoyles all slam into Ophion's body, blowing themselves up. Ophion stops moving and falls back into the sea. what a jobber
Mythra
Huh? Ophion!
Jin
Hold firm! He's coming!
Jin steps in to fight Malos. They lock blades.
Malos
You...
Got somethin' to say?
Jin gets back and prepares to fire icicles.
Jin
(calmly)
Why the damned bloodlust?
The icicles clatter harmlessly against Malos's Blade shield.
Malos
I've told you before.
The humans built the bonfire.
All I did was help them light it.
They fight for a brief moment, then begin circling each other.
Jin
Enough sophistry.
Malos
Oh yeah?
Are you a Blade or not?
You know it as well as I do.
What humans are really like.
Jin exhales with the air of "I don't believe you (or maybe I just don't want to believe you)".
Malos
(looking over at Lora)
You think they're all like your precious Driver?
Jin follows Malos's gaze to Lora, and is immediately punished for being distracted by being attacked and knocked down.
Mythra
Malos!
Mythra's Siren descends from above.
Malos
Oh! You summoned Siren.
Then let me add to the mix too...
Malos's Siren joins the fight. The Aegises order their mechs at each other, and they crash their barriers together.

Scream[edit]

Malos is having a good time.
Malos
Good show.
But I know you've got more.
Let it all out, Mythra.
Stop holding out on me!
The two Sirens have a swordfight in the sky. Malos's is hit downwards, so they start shooting at each other as Mythra's gives chase. Eventually, Malos's breaks the barrier of Mythra's, making it crash into the ground nearby. Mythra grimaces.
Malos
(mockingly)
Can't do it?
I can bring it out of you.
He commands his Siren to start firing at Auresco. The main laser cuts through the capital and leaves a trail of explosions in its wake. A lot of people get blown up. Mikhail and Milton are outside and just kinda stand there and take it. Lora gasps.
Lora
The town...
The others are equally shocked and distraught.
Mythra
(whimpering)
This can't be real...
She thinks of Milton.
Mythra
Milton!
She grabs her head and lets out a piercing scream of wrath. A green aura covers her as somewhere in darkness, Aion briefly stirs. Addam suddenly feels a pain in his sword hand as a similar glow comes out of her sword, which he's currently holding.
Addam
(what are you doing, young lady)
M-Mythra...!
What is that?
Mythra's sword transforms into Pneuma's. Malos is pleased. Addam finds himself staggered to the ground, unable to hold Pneuma's sword. Mythra steps over to pick it up - not saying a word, no expression on her face, her eyes dead inside.
Malos
Show me what you got, Mythra.
Do it. Make me proud.
Malos glows to equal hers as they dash at each other and clash. After a moment, they leap into the air and have a DBZ fight, flying around with mirrored movement crashing into each other. Mythra, still completely expressionless, then commands Siren to get behind her so she can enter its cockpit. Malos, enjoying every second, does the same with his own. The two Sirens soar higher into the sky, circle around a bit, and run into each others' barriers. The party's Blades protect everyone from the blasts of air of the constant collision.
Addam
W-wait! Mythra!
You can't...
Lora
What is happening?
Hugo
This is...
...a battle between the Aegises...
Mythra's Siren evades Malos's particle beam, which cuts through Torna as it chases her. After some pursuit, Mythra gets the grab on Malos and chucks him into Torna, stunning him a little. She screams again as she charges her cannon.
Addam
Mythra![10]
Malos gets up just in time to dodge the particle beam. Mythra keeps firing at him as he swoops around, causing just as much damage to Torna as he did. Eventually, he gets set up to fire his own blast, which hits Mythra's Siren and prompts her to go in for a melee attack. It doesn't do much to Malos's Siren.
Malos
Burn it all!
At this order, the Gargoyles go in with renewed urgency. Mythra's Siren is in the way of their path to Torna's core. Still stonefaced, she glows further, causing her Siren to emit a radiance that evaporates the Gargoyles simply as they get close.
Malos
What the-?!
Addam
(not really trying to yell anymore)
M-Mythra!
While first shocked, Malos smiles and give the people what they want: a clean evil laugh.
Malos
That's it. Perfect.
That's the power that our father gave us!
It's what the world has cried for since its birth...
Me... You... We're here to give them what they want.
Mythra
(struggling)
N-no... You're wrong...
I...don't...
Malos
Really?
Then I'll just have to claim...all the destruction for myself!
His Siren goes in to clash against her barrier once more.
Mythra sobs as she remembers the times she's had with Addam - having dinner with the group, seeing Milton in the crater - and then, somehow, times yet to occur in the future with Rex - meeting Pyra in a dreamworld, unsealing Mythra in Uraya, screaming to join him and asking for their hands against Jin at the Cliffs of Morytha.[11]
Mythra
I just...
She sees another image of Rex.[11][12] She's visibly crying now.
Mythra
want...to save...
The energy from her Siren overflows. Malos is blinded by the light. He then watches as she rapidly fires arrows of light in every direction. The shots that hit his Siren cause it to melt. He screams in pain as his cockpit glows hot and his body partially decomposes.
Malos
Mythra![13]
Malos's Siren plummets into the Cloud Sea as Mythra watches dispassionately. But she does not stop firing, allowing her Siren to pepper Torna with further destruction. Some shots hit the Titan's core, and it starts to turn redder. Hugo notes the problem and gets into position to defend Addam as it explodes, washing a wave of magenta energy across the terrace. Everyone yells. The Tornan Titan roars in pain as large chunks of it fall away.
The King looks upon the destruction from his balcony.
Tornan King
Our nation... Our people!
Zettar stands behind him.
Zettar
My brother... We must flee before we lose the ground beneath our feet!
The King doesn't respond.
Zettar
Did you heed me, brother?
The King continues to ignore him as the city burns.
Zettar
(frenzied)
Brother!
The King dramatically pushes off the railing and slowly turns to face Zettar.
Zettar
My brother...
The King definitively shakes his head. Zettar slightly mimics the motion, the same way someone would say "No?" in surprise back to someone who said "No.". He then turns and runs. The King looks back upon his realm, towards the destroyed core in the distance.
Tornan King
Addam...
I commend my people...
to you...
Large chunks of rubble fall from above, presumably killing him.
An Ardainian ship flees Auresco with many Tornans aboard. Mikhail is with Milton, both beat up but alive - for now anyway, Mikhail seems concerned over Milton's state.
Lora wakes up. The terrace is covered in a thick cloud of dust. She exerts herself to her feet.
Lora
Jin?
Haze...
Where?
She can't see a thing through the dust.
Lora
Addam! Everyone!
The dust then starts to clear. Hugo is dead, with Addam kneeling over him. The inactive Core Crystals of Brighid and Aegaeon sit next to them. Someone is sobbing - perhaps both Lora and Addam.
Lora
Hugo...
She starts to lunge forward, but Jin's hand from behind stops her. Haze and Minoth are there behind him. Mythra's Siren descends from above. Addam gently puts Hugo down. Mythra exits her Siren, seemingly unconscious, and floats gently into Addam's arms. With the Titan rumbling, the Ardainian ship arrives for them.
What's left of the party is aboard the ship, which has distanced itself from Torna. Lora gives the Core Crystals of Brighid and Aegaeon to the Special Inquisitor, who turns and leaves without a word. She takes another look at Hugo's body lying hear them and goes to cry on Jin. Haze cries by herself. Everyone then turns to watch Torna writhe in the distance as it sinks into the Cloud Sea. Mythra wimpers at the dawning realization that she did this. Lora then turns to see-
Lora
Mikhail!
Mythra looks over. Mikhail is still holding Milton, but Milton isn't breathing anymore. Mikhail slowly looks up, his eyes dead inside. Mythra slowly walks over in disbelief. She kneels down to touch Milton's head, but Mikhail pulls him away from her, from what was done to him. Mythra gets up and staggers backwards into Addam before falling to her knees.
Mythra
No...
Mythra
Nooooo!
Screaming, she is engulfed in flames.
It is some time later, a morning in Gormott. Addam stands in front of Lora, Haze, Jin, and Mikhail. Something is wrapped up on his back.
Lora
You're leaving?
Addam
Yes.
The royal Spirit Crucible is in Leftheria. I believe it'll keep this sealed.
It must be Pneuma's sword on his back.
Lora
I see.
Addam
I have a request for you.
I hear that a militia squad has evacuated to Spessia.
Give them a message from me. Once things are calm, they should come to Leftheria. OK?
Lora
Understood. I'll do it.
Addam nods and turns to leave. Behind him is Pyra, who does the same. Lora's group moves the other direction.
It is midnight. Lora's group has made camp somewhere. (The exact location is not clear.) Jin is roused by hearing some sort of large creature stomping about.
The stomping wakes up the other three as it gets louder. Lora gasps as it comes into view: it looks rocky, with glowing red eyes.
Jin
What...is that?
???
Caught up with you at last...
Lora.
The creature was speaking without anything visibly moving.
Lora
How do you know my name...?
Jin
It knows human speech...
Haze
But...it's not a Blade...
The creature opens its mouth to show Gort's face inside, haphazardly "wired" in with tendrils and such, like he was eaten but chose to stick around. It's all kinds of messed up.
Lora
Gort...?
Only now is the full creature visible. It walks on four limbs but looks like it might be able to stand on two, its chest is full of exposed muscles, and its right "arm" is a mechanical one much like a souped-up version of the original Bluefist.
Lora
What happened to you?
Gort
(veering in and out of sanity)
It hurt... Oh, the pain!
It hurt when you cut my bloody arm off!
Hmm. Is this my arm?
Hey, I have an arm!
It still hurts though.
It throbs and it throbs, and it just DOESN'T STOP...
Haze
I can't make sense of this.
Jin
He's lost his mind...
Lora
I don't think so.
He seems ecstatic.
Gort
I'll use your blood as a balm for my wounds.
How about it? Sound fair? Yeah?!
He lifts up his mechanical arm and extrudes claws from its wrist. The party gasps as a group.
Gort
I'll start with you, you Tornan Blade!
I'm paying you back for cutting my arms off, you dog!
I'll have me arms back...
And I think I deserve...some interest, too... I'll take your ears and nose as well!
Jin makes a scoffing sort of noise.
Gort
But first I'll get your blood for my medicine...
Then it'll be your turn, Lora.
It's your meddling that did this to me, after all...
It was you and your bitch mother!
I knew I should've gotten meself a decent woman!
It's your bastard fault!
Think you're gonna die quick?
Nah. I'm gonna enjoy watching you suffer.
Lora makes an angry "Gah...!".
Lora
I will not let you insult my mother like that!
Gort
Huh? Hurts to hear the truth, don't it?
Lora
You think you can pass judgment on my mother? You don't know us!
Jin draws his sword.
Jin
Leave it, Lora.
Trying to talk to him is a waste of time.
Haze
He's right.
Haze also arms herself.
Haze
No more mercy. This creature is beyond help.
Lora
Jin...
Haze...
You're right.
I won't waste my mercy on him.
But I will end his pain...
Gort
Excellent.
I'll have me some prime-time entertainment with you, girl!
Hope you're a screamer, Lora...
The "Gort Eater" rears up and roars.

Crossing Paths[edit]

Lora yells as she leaps, delivering the finishing blow with Jin's sword. Gort moans and bemoans as he falls.
Gort
But I...!
He tries to get back up.
Gort
I still wanted...
...I still wanted to play...!
He makes one last attack, but is out of reach. The party exhales as he turns into ashes and disperses on the wind.
Lora
Shameless, till the very end...
You can rest easy now, Mother...
Jin puts a steadying hand on her shoulder.
The scene skips ahead. While the sky is still dawning, the group is now at a cliffside. The staff credits begin to roll over the rest of the cutscene.
Jin
Somebody turned Gort into that horrible thing.
Lora
Did they mean to kill us?
Jin
I don't know...
But...
...Malos dying won't necessarily be enough to bring peace to the world.
That, I am certain of.
Lora
As long as there are people...
Haze
...there'll always be strife...I suppose...
Lora
Don't say that.
Lora steps over to pat Mikhail on the head. He responds well to it.
Lora
Things can change. There's always hope.
Don't you think, Jin?
Jin
Yes. You're right.
As long as Blades and humans are bonded to each other...
Lora
Surely, someday...
Jin and Lora smile at each other.
As the music plays, several scenes play out in the background. The party of four progresses through the woods. Baltrich is assassinated in the halls of Indol by a Blade stabbing him in the back. Rhadallis is assassinated at his desk by drinking poisoned wine. Amalthus smirks and turns away from looking at the mural of the creation of Alrest, passing by Stannif and Zettar walking together. The Ancient Ship sinks into the Cloud Sea as Addam watches mournfully. Amalthus, now Praetor, assembles the army of Indol, including several more creatures like the Gort Eater. Lora's group comes upon a refugee camp somewhere, which pleases them. But Jin senses something is wrong, and turns back to the woods behind them - too far for him to see yet, the army of Indol is approaching. As the camera pans up to the World Tree, the scene goes black.
Jin
In the course of a lifetime...
a man will see uncountable meetings and partings.
A forelorn rocky outcrop sitting upon the Cloud Sea fades in. A lone house sits on it.
Jin
Yet, as your life's candle sputters and dies...
whose face is it that rises to greet you?
Jin is in the house, holding the photograph of himself and Ornelia - the house must've broken away from Hyber as Torna fell. The Core Crystal on his sword is red. He puts the photo down.
Jin
Happy is the man who can sleep...
...in the comfort of the smile he sees then.
Next to Ornelia's photo, he places his journal, followed by the photo of himself and Lora's party.
Jin
No...
I don't wish for "forever".
Even just for one moment...
It's enough...if it's with her.
And yet...
Jin stands outside the house. The inside is on fire.
Jin
What is the man to do...who has not been afforded that chance...?
The photo of Lora's party burns. The fire spreads to the entire house.
Jin
The road stretches on without end.
I cannot but walk down it.
As long as I keep walking, I can hold out hope that one day, the time may come...
when I see her smile again.
He begins to walk away.
Jin
That hope keeps me afloat...
Azurda
You won't come back?
Jin doesn't look at Azurda.
Jin
This is the road I must walk.
He puts on his mask.
Jin
Our paths won't cross...
But...
...Should we in fact ever meet again...
On that day...
He keeps walking. The camera pans past him to show that the Monoceros is waiting for him. As it continues to pass over the surface of the Cloud Sea, the days go by very quickly. Eventually, it plunges into the sea to find the Ancient Ship, and within it, Pyra sleeping. The door opens, and Rex stands there.

Torna - The Golden Country

Notes[edit]

  1. This places Torna as taking place 494 years before the main game. "500" is definitely close enough.
  2. If it weren't already clear by this point, this drives home that the idea of a Driver and Blade sharing one weapon is not the meta at this point in history.
  3. "..." is probably not the correct punctuation for the intonation used. "." or perhaps "!" would fit better.
  4. There's an unused line here of "Amalthus? Who's that?".
  5. Comes out as a clear "you are" rather than "you're".
  6. This music continues all the way through gameplay (but not battles) until Malos shows himself.
  7. This should probably end in a "!", not a "...".
  8. There's a significant chunk of unused text here. It is a continuation of the previous Jin's journal entry.
This is how it is done.
The loved one's heart must be made part of your own body.
That done, the bond will endure eternal.
But...can this really be the best way possible...?
    Though the memories will survive...
will they be enough to grant solace...?
    Though her heart will remain...
    will it be enough...?
  9. When the violin version would end, the original fades in and continues from there.
  10. This could probably do with like 10 more "a"s.
  11. 11.0 11.1 This is a strange scene in context. While presented as visions of the future, using a very similar blueish visual effect as used for visions in Xenoblade Chronicles, Mythra's Foresight has been otherwise presented as a yellowish tint that is only capable of showing the immediate future. The ability for her to see five hundred years into the future raises logistical, narrative, and thematic issues.
  12. Unlike the others, this vision is not of a scene from the base game; it's something completely new.
  13. This caption requires more "a"s than could fit on one line.

Trivia[edit]

  • Unlike the main game, there are several lines in the script that have a needless space before the line break. Evidently the proofreading was a bit sloppier.
