The fourth chapter of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Aegis, takes a detour to conclude Vandham's arc before investigating the truth of the "first" Artificial Blade.

Swooping Artifice[edit]
Some time in the distant past, a great city is razed by destruction from the heavens. People going about their lives are blown away by both explosions of darkness and beams of light. Survivors watch the devastation from afar. Above, the scene is surveyed by a gleaming white metal humanoid, centered by a green Core Crystal, and a stone-faced Mythra.

The body may die, but never the soul, which is merely passed on.
A gravestone has been placed where Vandham was killed.

Souls flow onward, born and reborn, forever part of the great ether stream.

Her Core Crystal starts to glow and beat again. After a few moments, she's turned into Mythra again.

She turns away and changes back into Pyra. It takes her a moment to realize she's been swapped back in.

The scene skips ahead to an empty Mymoma Playhouse. Pyra and Gramps sit onstage while the party stands in front.

A flashback begins to play over her story. Someone of an as-yet-unseen race is climbing a sheer cliff of wood with his bare hands.

There was a man who climbed the World Tree, hoping to make it to Elysium and meet his creator.
The man reaches a floor to find an open doorway. He heads inside and eventually finds a mechanical door, which opens to great shaking and light.

But...when he arrived at Elysium, he found it empty.
So instead, as proof that he had reached that divine realm...

The man runs back out and starts to descend.
Pyra
He brought back two Core Crystals, Malos and me.
And once he made it back to Alrest...

In a yet-unseen location, two Core Crystals hover above a desk: the glittering green cross of Pyra, and a more sinister-looking purple one of the same shape.

He starts to reach towards the crystals.

The flashback changes to a background of flame as Malos rises, facing away from the camera.
Pyra
When Malos awakened, he wielded his world-shaking power without restraint.
Scenes play of dark explosions destroying landscapes, cities, and entire Titans.
Pyra
To him, it was natural. He had never known anything else.
A group is at Olethro Playhouse.
Pyra
I was awakened by a Driver who was determined to stop Malos's rampage.
A man in a cloak kneels before Mythra. She uses her sword to knight him.
Pyra
So Malos and I fought.
Mythra and Malos clash blades. Malos's weapon is not clearly visible, but we can see the purple Core Crystal on his chest, presumably covered up in the present time.
Pyra
I fought with all my might, and succeeded in defeating Malos.
The landscape is devastated, but Mythra stands on a pinnacle in victory. The unidentified mech-like machine from earlier flies up beside her, now seen to have angelic wings and a halo.
Pyra
But not without a price. Three great Titans fell in the struggle.

Somewhere in another country, on a white dragon-like Titan that flies in the air, is a great hall with an effigy of the World Tree on the back wall. A person in white and gold religious garb kneels in front of it, the same tree on the back of the robe. They get up and spread their arms.

The party approaches the ship to Mor Ardain. They are interrupted by a soft chime as a blue light appears in Rex's pouch.

The mystery person simply stands there and takes the bullets, which spark and clatter to the ground for no damage done.

Over the next fifteen seconds, her body reconfigures into more of a teenage girl, her hair changing to two pigtails, and developing a maid outfit very similar to Lila's (though with a short skirt). Back in the real world, the party recoils from the bright flash coming out of the ribbons.

The party turns around to see four new arrivals. The presumed speaker is a woman in a white coat. Next to her is a man in purple and black armour. And behind them are probably their Blades: something with four arms and multiple weapons for her, and a big bulky guy with long hair for him.

Behind the party is a new arrival, approaching the fight's neutral zone. She has brown hair, wears white robes and burgundy pants, and holds a staff emitting tealish light. A triangle on her chest could be a Core Crystal, but she looks human enough that it might not be.

The woman inside the ice, Lora, has an uncanny resemblance to Fan, but also wears armor plating that strongly resembles the others in Torna.
