The fourth chapter of Xenoblade Chronicles begins a side plot focusing on the people of Colony 6.

Heading for Colony 6[edit]

Shulk points out a clump of plants down the nearby rock face.

The Bionis' Leg[edit]
The pair reach the plains of the Bionis' Leg.[1]

Shulk! Look over there.
At the foot of a small arch over a river, something is producing a column of dark smoke.
Shulk

Maybe someone's got a fire going. Hope they're cooking up something good!
Shulk
It's hardly a good spot for a barbecue!

The Vision[edit]
The two reach the source of the smoke, a one-seat three-wheel vehicle.
Reyn
Someone's left a buggy out here.

That's strange. Who would just abandon a buggy in this place?

Shulk
Not brand new. But it's in very good condition.

Shulk reaches out to touch the buggy and immediately gets a vision. In it, a boy is being chased by two huge Arduns beside a body of water.
Shulk
There's a boy! He's being attacked by monsters!
Reyn
You saw it happening? Where?
Shulk
I don't know! But it was near some water.
Reyn
Near water... But what made you have a vision all of a sudden?
Shulk
Maybe it was triggered by touching the buggy.
Reyn
Well, we'd better find him. Let's search everywhere round here where there's water!
Shulk

The Boy at the Oasis[edit]
Shulk and Reyn are approaching the Rho Oasis when Reyn spots something.
Reyn
Shulk! Over there!
As foreseen, there's a boy being knocked down and bullied by two Arduns. Shulk and Reyn step in front of him.
Kid
Arghhhh!
Reyn
You all right, kid?
Kid
Who are you?
Reyn
That can wait. Go! Get outta here! Leave these guys to us.
Kid

The kid gets up and runs away.
Shulk
Let's do this!
Reyn

To the Homs Camp[edit]
The Ardun have been fought off. Shulk, Reyn, and the kid are back at the buggy; Shulk has just fixed it so it's no longer smoking.
Shulk
OK. It should work now.
Kid
Great. You saved my skin! My buggy short-circuited, and then there were those monsters, and... Well, thanks!
Shulk
I fixed the circuit, but it's out of ether. Change the cylinder and it'll be as good as new.
Reyn
I think it's time for the introductions.

Sharla and Juju[edit]
Shulk, Reyn, and Juju reach the Refugee Camp. A woman immediately notices and turns towards them.
Woman
Juju.
She approaches with some anger. Juju cowers a bit as he shuts the buggy down.
Woman
Where have you been?
Shulk gasps as he gets a vision. He sees Juju in a Mechon pincer. The woman is running at him.
Woman
Juju!
She gets snatched by another pincer and screams. There's a silhouette of something big with two eyes. The vision then ends. The woman is clearly about to tell Juju off.
Woman
Don't tell me you were...
Juju is pretending he doesn't exist.
Woman
I've told you a thousand times.
We're not ready to leave the camp yet.

Sorry, Sharla.
Sharla pats Juju on the head and seems done with being angry at him for now. Her attention then turns to Reyn.
Sharla

We've come from Colony 9.
Sharla steps back out of Reyn's personal space.

They saved me from some monsters.

The Tragedy of Colony 6[edit]
Shulk and Reyn meet with Sharla and Juju in the camp's cave.
Sharla
We had already fought off the Mechon a year ago, at the Battle of Sword Valley.

It left us with a false sense of security.
The Colony 6 Defence Force didn't even notice the approaching Mechon.
By the time the air-raid siren sounded, a swarm of Mechon had blackened the sky.
They ate people and burned our buildings. Me and Juju dedicated ourselves to evacuating the children and elderly.
I don't know what happened next.

It's just like what happened to Colony 9.

Sharla huffs and tries to find the right angle to counter.

Shulk receives a vision. He sees a many-tentacled Mechon surrounded by flames, holding both Juju and Sharla. There's also a large, thickset Mechon with a face. The vision ends.
Reyn

He slinks off, clearly upset.
Reyn
Maybe I was too hard on him.
Shulk?

Reyn has noticed that Shulk seems preoccupied, but gets interrupted.
Sharla
Reyn, you really remind me of Gadolt when you get angry.
Reyn

Gadolt's taken care of us ever since we were young.
I always saw him as a big brother really, but he was more of a father to Juju...

Shulk is still staring at the ground. Reyn figures it out.

An engine revvs up somewhere outside and fades out.

The trio hurries outside. Juju has left.
Sharla
The buggy's gone! He's going to Colony 6 on his own!
Reyn

Shulk
We have to hurry. Something bad's gonna happen.
Reyn

Shulk
A deep valley... Everything's engulfed in flames...
There's a black shadow...

The audience can tell that it was not in fact Metal Face, but Shulk doesn't realise this.

Where does it happen? Is it near Colony 6?

I'm not sure. I think so.
Reyn
Let's get after him, Shulk!
Shulk and Reyn start to leave, but get stopped.
Sharla
Hold on a second! What was all that about?
Reyn
I know you won't believe this... but Shulk can see the future.
Sharla
The future? That's not possible.
Shulk
That's what I thought too. I still can't explain this.

That thing kills Sharla too. I saw it in the vision.

A New Ally[edit]
The trio exit the Refugee Camp to the Leg plains.
Reyn
Sharla, do you know which way Juju went?
Sharla
There are quite a few ways to get there from here, but he's in a buggy, so I think he'll take Raguel Bridge.
Shulk
Raguel Bridge?
Sharla
It's not far. It's a really old bridge. Built around the time Colony 9 was founded.
Shulk

Meanwhile, at said Raguel Bridge, Juju has somehow managed to crash the buggy into one of the bridge supports.

He starts to travel on foot. His genius plan is progressing.
The Abandoned Buggy[edit]
The trio come upon the crashed buggy.
Reyn
Hey, Sharla! Look!
Sharla
It's Juju's buggy!
They gather around it. Shulk gets an idea, and reaches out to touch it. This gives him a vision.
Juju is standing at a rock spire holding a gun, looking around in apprehension. He gasps as Mechon tentacles burst out of the ground behind him.
Juju
What is that thing?!
Juju cries as the tentacle lunges to grab him and the vision ends.
Shulk
Juju!
Reyn

Shulk
It's Juju!
Sharla
Shulk! Is he OK?!
Shulk mutters indistinctly.
Sharla
Tell me!
Shulk
There's a Mechon... It's taken Juju!
Sharla emits a moan.
Reyn
When?!
Shulk
I'm not sure. But I don't think we've got much time.
Sharla
You said you saw a deep valley, didn't you?

Yes.
Sharla
There's a place like that just up ahead.

Let's move. That has to be where Juju is.
Where Did Juju Go?[edit]
There is a choice of path at the north side of Raguel Bridge.
Reyn
Is this the place you were on about?
Sharla
This is it all right. At the end of the road there's a path to Colony 6.
Shulk
But there's no sign of Juju. If my vision was right, he should be around here somewhere.
Sharla
I'm sure he would have gone along this road. I just hope nothing's happened to him yet.
Reyn points at the Windy Cave.
Reyn
Any chance he went up that way?
Sharla

Got it. We'll search along the road.
Shulk's Power[edit]
The trio reach Spiral Valley to find that Juju is already in the tentacled clutches of a Mechon M71, whining as he gets tossed around.
Sharla
Juju!
Sharla runs ahead of the rest of the group.
Sharla
Juju!
Hold on, I'm coming!

Shulk
Wait! Sharla!
Shulk gets a vision. It's the same one from when he first saw Sharla: she's running towards the Mechon, and gets ambushed by a tentacle sprouting from the ground.
Sharla
Juju!
She gets snatched and screams. The vision ends and Shulk sees a new symbol in the Monado.
Shulk
(to himself)

Another new symbol's appeared on the Monado!

He hears a voice in his head.
Indistinct voice
Of course you can.
Shulk doesn't think about this for very long before running forward and slapping the Monado on the ground, producing a blue shockwave that leaves a blue aura around Sharla. She steps to the side faster than she realises to avoid the Mechon tentacle, which Shulk slices off.
Sharla
Shulk?!
The group stands together again. Reyn also has the blue aura around him.
Shulk
Its tentacles could come out from under the ground at any second.
One false move and you're done for.
Wait for my order!

'Course! Leave it to me!
Shulk yells again and goes in. He sees a vision of how the tentacles are going to attack him, and so easily avoids and slices them all. Reyn and Sharla make use of the speedy aura to dodge their movements and make their own attacks. They group back together again.
Sharla
Amazing!

With most of the tentacles removed, the group can face the M71 itself.
Pursuing the Mechon[edit]
The trio has beat up the M71 a good bit.
Reyn
Is it down?!
The M71 picks itself up and grapples to the ceiling, escaping onto the top level of Spiral Valley.
Reyn
Get back here!
Shulk
It's up there! Let's go after it!
Reyn
Right!
They make chase.
The Talking Face[edit]
Shulk cuts off the tentacle that is holding Juju.
Shulk
Reyn!
Reyn leaps forward to grab Juju as the gripper releases him. The rest of the M71 explodes. Sharla runs up to them.
Sharla
Juju! Are you all right?!
Juju
Sharla...
I'm sorry.

Juju quickly gets up as the angry and exhausted Sharla approaches. She slaps him in the face, but quickly turns back to concern and relief and hugs him.
Sharla
I'm so glad you're OK.
Reyn
Hey! Looks like we changed the future!
Shulk looks distracted.
Reyn
What's up?

Shulk
Well, it's just that...
That can't have been the Mechon from my vision.

Yeah, weren't it supposed to be that one with the face.
I guess we changed more than we expected!

The group gets blasted by the wind of something flying in for a landing. They look up to see a bronze-coloured Mechon approaching from above.
Sharla
Juju!
The bronze Mechon unfolds into its humanoid form and lands. The audience recognises it as the thickset one teased recently, while Shulk and Reyn are confused that it isn't Metal Face.
Shulk
No!
It's not him at all!

Reyn
But this one's got a face 'n' all!
The bronze Face turns to Shulk and Reyn.
Bronze Face
I've been waiting for you,
Monado boy.
Monado boy.
Shulk
What? It spoke!
Bronze Face
The way Metal Face scarpered
I thought you'd have to be this big scary monster.
But look.
You're just some pathetic little kid!

With a large hammer in hand, he attacks.
Juju Kidnapped[edit]
Juju is split from the others. Bronze Face reaches out and grabs him easily.
Shulk
Juju!
Juju cries and moans as he tries to get out of the fist.
Sharla
Juju!
Reyn
You pile of junk!
Let him go!

The party advances. Shulk notices Bronze Face's eyes flashing.
Shulk
Reyn!
Better watch your back!

Got it!
Smaller Mechon drop in from behind. Reyn pushes them back as Shulk continues on.

Cheers, Shulk!
Bronze Face
You little...
Bronze Face takes a series of swings and kicks at Shulk, all of which he dodges. Shulk gets in one strike with the Monado, but it bounces off harmlessly. He starts running to find a better position.
Shulk
Why? Why can’t I use the Monado?!
It's only the ones that have faces.

He ducks a sudden spinning backhand hammer swing. He probably had a vision about it that wasn't shown.
Shulk
I can still see what it's going to do!

Bronze Face

Nice tricks you got there, pipsqueak!
Darting around the place!

Reyn protects Shulk from further small Mechon as Bronze Face advances.
Bronze Face
Won't matter, you're still flesh and blood, and I reckon you're nearly done!

Got it!
Shulk blocks a punch from Bronze Face, but gets stunned from it. The Mechon swings the hammer down, but Sharla shoots it, causing it to miss.
Sharla
Now!
Reyn
Right!
Reyn tries to attack the fist Juju is in and gets nothing out of it.
Reyn
It's just bouncing off 'im!
Bronze Face leaps into the air.
Bronze Face
That was fun for a while.
But now I'm bored!

He smacks the ground, causing a shockwave that pushes the party away.
Juju
Sharla!
Sharla has been pushed all the way off the edge of the platform and is just hanging on. Bronze Face steps over to Shulk.
Bronze Face
Time to finish you off!
Reyn
Shulk! Look out!
As Bronze Face raises his hammer, there's a sound as if something is losing power, and the red lights across his body start to flicker blue and black. He immediately goes timid and steps back.
Bronze Face
Looks like my time here's up.
It's your lucky day, little boy!
But that luck won't last forever.

Shulk, still ready, goes "huh?". The Face chuckles and shoves Juju in his face.
Bronze Face
I'll keep hold of this brat.
If you want him back you'd better come to Colony 6.
But you'll have to be be quick. I'm feeling hungry!

You! You're gonna pay!
Bronze Face cackles as he starts to take off.
Bronze Face
I can't wait to grind you all into dust!
Juju
Sharla! Sharla!

Bronze Face jets away. The smaller Mechon all follow. Sharla exerts herself back onto solid ground.
