Scientia is an anti-U.M.N. resistance organization in the Xenosaga series. They specialize in operations of guerilla warfare tactics against the U.M.N. administration and its affiliates, including the Galaxy Federation and Vector Industries.

Story[edit]

Pied Piper[edit]

Scientia was founded in T.C. 4669 when the former Galaxy Federation Special Operations Command officer and head of V.L.V. Melisse Ortus unified several anti-government organizations into a singular body.

A Missing Year[edit]

100 years later the organization has spread throughout the Federation and accrued several million members. A string of Gnosis terrorism attacks prompt the Scientia agent Doctus to target a young girl going by the name "Nephilim". However, on her first encounter with the girl, Jin Uzuki, a man working with the Subcommittee on Close Encounters, protects her and forces Doctus to temporarily retreat. Not long after, Doctus takes advantage of a Gnosis attack on the Subcommittee's lab to kidnap the girl, damaging the anti-Gnosis weapons system KOS-MOS in the process.

Jin and his sister Shion later track Doctus back to the Nothung, a Scientia battleship. There, Doctus and the Nothung's Captain explain details on Lemegeton and Vector Industries' involvement with the Gnosis terrorism. This is enough to convince Shion and Jin to allow Scientia to proceed with their plan to use the girl to stop Grimoire Verum, the supposed source of the Gnosis terrorism. However, when the girl causes Scientia's eqipment to spiral out of control, Shion reaches for the girl, causing her consciousness to get pulled into Ars Nova with the girl's.

Jin later returns to the Nothung, offering a fragment of Lemegeton in exchange for Scientia's help in saving Shion's consciousness. They accept, and have Jin enter Ars Nova using an Encephalon Dive Unit. Doctus later dives in to assist in holding off Macrophages so that Jin and Shion can go after Grimoire.

Episode III[edit]

After Shion quits her job at Vector, she joins the organization to learn about the truth about her father's involvement in the Miltian Conflict, the U.M.N. and Vector's secrets. Doctus, Shion, Miyuki, and Canaan raid Vector S-Line Division in an attempt to steal data from its database to expose Vector's shady dealings with the U-TIC Organization. However, the appearance of a swarm of Gnosis forces the group to escape empty handed.
