Chapter 40: Babel Tower[edit]

The party heads to the Yggdrasil's gun room to discuss, and of course, for some drinks too. Jessie decides to reveal the truth about why he left Solaris; When he was in Solaris, he discovered the Malakh Plan. This was a plan done under Krelian's leadership, in which the Ethos gathered land-dwellers and mutated them into Wels. Jessie further investigated the plan and discovered that a leading scientist working on the Malakh Plan placed the truth about it inside a Gear and had his daughter escape Solaris with it. After discovering the truth, Jessie and his family moved to the surface, leaving Solaris out of detestation. Jessie has been actively searching for the girl and the Gear ever since, and he's discovered they might be in Shevat; unfortunately, Jessie is unsure how to get there as it's surrounded by a large barrier.

Fei and a Shevat agent the party rescued from the Ethos headquarters walks in. The Shevat agent seems to recognize the girl Jessie is talking about, calling her Maria. Jessie recognizes the name Maria, and believes her father is a scientist named Nikolai. The agent says Shevat was once settled on top of Babel Tower. At the top of the tower, there is believed to be a communication facility that allows contact with Shevat; however, it's unknown if the facility remains. Regardless, Fei and the party decide they must try to scale the tower to try and access Shevat.

Krelian converses with the Gazel Ministry. They ask him how the Malakh Plan is proceeding, as they need "superior bodies" to reach civilization's ultimate destination. Krelian responds by saying that they've betrayed their creator to uphold their egos, and reminds them that they used to live in bodies until he uploaded them to the mechanical sphere as data.

The party enters Babel Tower and they activate a shuttle inside that takes them to the peak, but the shuttle is shot at by a Gebler ship. The party gets off the shuttle, and they are confronted by Ramsus and Miang in their Gears. Fei wonders how they got found, but they have no choice but to fight. After being defeated, Ramsus tries to continue fighting, but Miang holds him back and tells him to stop due to his wounds. She commands the Gebler ship to shoot at the party as she and Ramsus leave, but the ship is suddenly attacked from above by Shevat. They quickly escape the area.

Upon reaching the peak of the tower, a young girl piloting a Gear called Seibzehn battles the party to stop them from entering Shevat. After battling, someone referred to as Queen Zephyr remotely tells the girl, revealed to be Maria, to let the party in. Shevat flies in from above, and Maria apologizes for attacking them, as she just simply wanted to test their strength. She says that the queen is waiting for their arrival.

Meanwhile, the Gazel Ministry is greatly disappointed to find out the party entered Shevat as there's an Anima Relic located there. They wish to prevent the party from aligning with the relic until their preparations are complete. They discuss initiating an attack on Shevat to stop them, but due to the barrier surrounding it, they can only enter using a gravity cannon belonging to a Gear called Achtzehn. They decide to send a squad to invade Shevat.

Chapter 41: Sky City Shevat[edit]

The party reaches Shevat, and Maria introduces herself as "Maria Balthasar"; Fei realizes she shares the same surname as Ol' man Bal from the cave underneath the Aveh desert. Maria says Bal is her grandfather, but she hasn't seen him in a few years.[note 1] According to her, he left to search for something important. She also explains that her father was captured by Solaris and hasn't been seen since. Maria tells the party to explore the city while she inspects Seibzehn.

The party enters the capital of Shevat, Aphel Aura. While exploring the city, they come across a ruined house. Maria walks in and says the house was destroyed and its inhabitants were killed 500 years ago during a war between Solaris and Shevat. They purposefully choose to keep the house in a ruined state as a reminder of the tragic war. She invites the party to visit the palace with her.

They enter the palace and meet with Zephyr, the Queen of Shevat. Despite her younger appearance, she is 522 years old due to a life-extending treatment she along with a few others underwent to atone for the tragedy of the war. She reveals that Wiseman told her about the party and that he has been performing operations on the surface under her command. Following the Solaris War, Shevat strongly lacks power compared to Solaris, though they continue to resist them. She asks the party to help Shevat free the world from Solaris, but Fei is apprehensive about Shevat; wondering if they may wish to attain domination too. She reaffirms that they have good intentions, but tells Fei to rest and consider things.

Chapter 42: Intruder Alert![edit]

After thinking it over, Fei returns to the palace and decides to help Shevat. Suddenly, the room begins shaking. Maria and a man come rushing in, and the man reports that a lone Gebler soldier has entered the dock area and destroyed the generator producing the Gate surrounding Shevat. The intruder has reportedly escaped to the hangar that Seibzehn is being held in. Maria tries to rush to Seibzehn, but Zephyr stops her as it's too dangerous. However, Fei and the party are permitted to go down to the hangar alongside Maria. But one of the party members (dependent on the player's choice) stays back to help protect Zephyr.

On their way down to the hangar, the elevator gets blocked by the defensive shutter, so they decide to take the emergency shaft instead, though it is a much longer route. Eventually, they reach the hangar where Seibzehn is held. The intruder, Dominia, says that she will take Seibzehn back, as it was created by and belongs to Solaris. Dominia recognizes Maria as the daughter of Nikolai, and she decides to reveal the truth about Seibzehn to her; Her father Nikolai, a neurological studies expert, discovered a way to fuse humans and Gears together to enhance their battle capabilities. Seibzehn was a prototype man-machine fusion Gear created during his research. Maria is shocked by this, believing her father wouldn't do such a thing. Dominia reaffirms this is true, but she is interrupted by Jessie. He tells her to leave, as Maria is the only one who can operate Seibzehn.

Dominia leaves, but suddenly an alarm rings out. Jessie and the party head back to the palace to discuss the situation.

Chapter 43: Raid of Shevat![edit]

At the palace, the party finds out that multiple Solaris Gears are heading towards Shevat. Citan presumes they intend to destroy the four Gate generators. Fei decides to help defend Shevat from the attack. However, he notices that Chu-Chu has somehow sneaked into the palace and entered the conversation. Chu-Chu says she also wants to help protect Shevat, and he reluctantly agrees to let her join them. Citan goes over the information regarding the Solaris Gears, but there's one particular Gear with very little known information regarding it. Zephyr displays the Gear on screen and Maria recognizes it as Achtzehn; the sister Gear of Seibzehn also designed by Nikolai. She believed Achtzehn was never completed and the plans for it were burned, leading her to question why it's here. Suddenly, Nikolai's voice comes out of Achtzehn, threatening to destroy Shevat. Maria becomes distressed, wondering why her father would act like this. Citan decides the others should split up to defend the generators, and Zephyr tells Maria to stay back.

After protecting the four generators, they decide to face against Achtzehn. Shevat's Gear forces try to attack Achtzehn, but are completely destroyed. Achtzehn uses a new anti-Gear weapon, causing the party's Gears to be temporarily immobile. However, Seibzehn was designed to be shielded from immobilization, leading Citan to propose that Maria battles Achtzehn. However, she can't bring herself to fight her father. Without any hesitance, Chu-Chu takes off for Achtzehn like a hero, but Maria quickly chases after her.

Maria tries to stop Chu-Chu, but it's chu late, as she's already made up her mind. A light envelops Chu-Chu as she expands massively; making her nearly as large as Achtzehn. Chu-Chu battles against Achtzehn, and Nikolai reveals that the Chu-Chu species were genetically engineered using Limiters to reduce their natural size, but Chu-Chu seems to have had her Limiter removed by the wisemen from Shevat. He threatens to capture Chu-Chu and use her as a guinea pig for his research. Citan's daughter, Midori walks up to Maria, as she now lives in Shevat following the destruction of Lahan Village. She tells Maria that she can sense Nikolai calling for her, which convinces Maria to use Seibzehn.

Maria rushes to the Gear hangar and takes off in Seibzehn. Nikolai recognizes Seibzehn and Maria, and he gloats to her about how powerful he is since he was fused with Achtzehn. He invites Maria to come with him, so they can start a new life together. Seibzehn suddenly goes out of control and begins charging towards Achtzehn. Maria is left with no choice but to battle Nikolai. During the battle, Maria hears Nikolai calling out for her. He reveals that before he was brainwashed by Solaris, he implanted a conscience circuit inside Achtzehn, which activates when near Seibzehn. During the battle, he transferred his data to Seibzehn, allowing him to transmit a hidden message to Maria. He says he's remotely released the seal on Seibzehn's graviton cannon, and he asks her to destroy him with it. Maria can't bring herself to use it, but she loses control of Seibzehn once again, and it uses the graviton cannon to destroy Achtzehn.

Back in the palace, now that Solaris' raid is over, Zephyr says that the Gate generator has been repaired and is functioning normally. Fei asks how to reach Solaris, and Zephyr responds by saying Solaris is protected by three gates that make it invisible. One gate is hidden underneath the Ethos headquarters, but it is practically unreachable. The locations of the other two gates are unknown. She also relays that Aveh has invaded Nisan, likely to reach the hidden royal treasure of Aveh; an Omnigear sealed underground by Roni Fatima. Bart decides they must stop Shakhan from having his way, so they agree to head to Nisan. Zephyr informs them that the Yggdrasil has been upgraded with an aerial module designed by Roni, allowing it to fly. Zephyr asks Fei to bring Maria along with them, to which he agrees. Lastly, Zephyr also tells them that Gaspar, a sage of Shevat has arrived. She says he can help teach new techniques to Fei. They leave for Nisan.

In a conversation between Gaspar, Zephyr, and Wiseman, Gaspar says that he's come here to "watch over them" to prevent them from making the same mistakes as before. Zephyr asks about Melchior and Balthasar, to which Gaspar responds by saying that he hasn't seen them. Suddenly, a guard comes rushing in and reports that when Elly was near an Omnigear, it started moving. Wiseman says that Elly has no intentions of using the Omnigear, similar to Sophia. He mentions that also similarly to Sophia, Elly is unconsciously aware of the "existence within her". Gaspar leaves to remove part of the Limiter in Fei and the others' genes.

Meanwhile, Chu-Chu and her fellow Chu-Chu friends got chugether and had a party. But after the party, Chu-Chu forcefully joined Fei and the others on their journey.

Chapter 44: Protect Nisan![edit]

The party goes to Nisan and defeats the soldiers stationed there. They eventually discover that half the civilians fled, and the rest are hiding inside the mausoleum, also referred to as Ft. Jasper. They find Sister Agnes from Nisan, who tells them that Shakhan has discovered the true form of the Fatima Jasper, the blue pupils of the Fatima lineage. Shakhan intends to use the retina of Margie's deceased mother to gain access to the secret treasure. Sigurd devises a plan to recapture Aveh by sending some of the party to Bledavik while Shakhan and his army are distracted in Nisan. Bart agrees with the plan, and the party splits up.

Inside Ft. Jasper, Bart finds the civilians have taken refuge there. Bart tells the civilians his plans to take back Aveh and instructs them that it's safe to return to Nisan. Margie sees that the casket belonging to her mother has not been opened. They find a room resembling a bridge, leading them to believe Ft. Jasper can be moved. They eventually reach the entrance to the royal treasure's room, and Bart, along with the help of Margie due to his missing eye, uses their respective Fatima Jasper to get inside.

Inside the room, they find the Omnigear, Andvari. Bart returns to the bridge and lifts Ft. Jasper out of the ground. He opens the fortress's sky dome, which will allow them to take Andvari, but suddenly, Shakhan and his army intervene. He admits this was all a setup to get Bart to open the entrance to the Omnigear for him. As they attempt to stop them from getting Andvari, the party is blocked by Shakhan's troops. However, Margie passes by them and runs to the central chamber where the Omnigear is held. Shakhan gives chase to Margie, and suddenly, Sigurd and Citan return, leaving Maison in charge of Bledavik.

Bart reaches a block, as he needs the Fatima Jasper to open the door to the central chamber. However, due to his missing eye, he is unable to open the door. Sigurd uses his eye alongside Bart's eye to open the door, which leaves Bart confused as to how Sigurd's eye worked. With no time to explain, they quickly try to find Margie, who is found piloting Andvari. Bart gets inside Andvari alongside Margie and begins piloting it. Though he is unsure how to use Andvari due to its lack of controls, Citan tells him it's controlled mentally. Using the Omnigear, Bart manages to fight through Shakhan's army, prompting Shakhan himself to escape in his Gear.

Chapter 45: Gate1 -Margie[edit]

Back in Nisan, Sigurd gets word that the Yggdrasil has picked up multiple Gear signals in the area, which he assumes is Shakhan. He hypothesizes that Shakhan may be heading for a nearby cave, believed to be the location of a Solaris gate generator. Bart and the others head to the gate to stop Shakhan.

Inside the cave, they find the gate generator. Shakhan appears and reveals that the Gates were placed under the supervision of the Ethos. During the experiments to uncover the gate's true nature, the Ethos discovered how to link Gears to the gate to obtain more energy. Shakhan tries to demonstrate this ability by linking his Gear with the gate, but fails. Suddenly, Grahf appears, calls the power of the Gate superficial, and powers up Shakhan. Grahf leaves, and the party manages to defeat the powered-up Shakhan. Bart scolds Shakhan, and in his final moments, Shakhan expresses jealousy towards Bart for being heir to the throne. As Shakhan dies, the gate begins collapsing and the party escapes.

Back in Aveh, which has been successfully reclaimed, Bart is crowned the new king. Bart apologizes for his absence and also calls for a truce with Kislev, marking the end of the centuries-long war. He also announces the end of the monarchy, instead choosing to establish Aveh as a republic, as per his father's wishes. Sigurd and Maison are surprised by this, and Sigurd tells Bart that the people of Aveh want him to be their leader.

Later in the night, Bart asks Maison about Sigurd's descent, since he was able to use the Fatima Jasper. Maison reveals that Bart's father, King Edbart IV, was in a relationship with a woman from a small religious sect. Eventually, the woman disappeared, abandoning King Edbart IV, and it was rumored she had a child. Many years later, Sigurd was assigned to King Edbart IV as a squire. Bart talks with Sigurd and asks about his mother, and he says she was considered terminal by a doctor, and she lived in constant fear of that. She eventually died when Sigurd was only a child. King Edbart IV was never meant to know about Sigurd being his son; as such, Sigurd chose to hide that fact.

Chapter 46: Gate2 -Babel[edit]

Inside the Bledavik castle, the party discusses their plans to destroy the other two Solaris gates. They recall that one gate is deep underneath the Ethos headquarters. Bart proposes a plan to destroy the gate by shooting a beam from Ft. Jasper at it. However, this seems nearly impossible, since Ft. Jasper can't be moved elsewhere. But Citan realizes that Ft. Jasper and Babel Tower were likely built by the same civilization, and it's possible the mirror on Babel Tower was designed to reflect Ft. Jasper's beam. The party agrees on this plan and splits into two teams; one team will adjust the mirror at Babel Tower, and the other team will fire the beam from Ft. Jasper.

Miang and Ramsus meet with the Gazel Ministry, who begin insulting Ramsus for his many failures to stop Fei. They say to prove his worth, he must prevent the party from destroying the next gate. Ramsus is inclined to go alone, but the Elements decide to go instead, giving Ramsus more time to recover from his injuries.

At Babel Tower, Citan adjusts the mirror, and he tells the others at Ft. Jasper to launch the beam. Meanwhile, Fei and Elly encounter Dominia and Kelvena. They hold them off to help buy Citan time. Bart, Billy, and Maria enter Ft. Jasper and begin preparations to fire the beam. Maria receives signals of Gears coming towards them, so she and Bart leave in their Gears to stop the enemies. Billy stays behind to fire the beam. The enemy Gears are found to be piloted by Tolone and Seraphita. They proceed to battle. Billy shoots the beam, and after one failed shot, the beam successfully reflects off the Babel Tower mirror, hits the ground by the Ethos headquarters, and destroys the second gate. After getting word of the gate's destruction, the Elements retreat.

With only one gate left, the party discusses their plan. According to notes from Shakhan, the gates form the points of a triangle. Based on this information, they eventually determine the location of the third gate to be deep underwater. They head to the Thames to retrieve equipment for deep-sea exploration.

The Gazel Ministry continues to detest Ramsus for his inability to stop the destruction of the second gate. Krelian appears and says the gate's destruction doesn't matter, since, despite fear regarding the situation spreading throughout Etrenank, Cain's words are easily manipulating the public. Krelian also says that he discovered the "mother" may exist among the land-dwellers, and she has likely transmigrated into the Antitype. He also plans to use the nanomachine colony he retrieved from Zeboim, which he calls Emeralda, said to be a creation between the Antitype and the Contact 4,000 years ago.

Chapter 47: Gate3 -The Deep[edit]

The party meets with the Thames captain, who provides them with underwater equipment for their Gears. They take the Yggdrasil deep underwater, bringing them to Sargasso, a deep-sea cave. In their Gears, they eventually reach the third Solaris gate. The gate is being protected by Rattan, a follower of Krelian. Along with the nanomachine-comprised girl, Emeralda, piloting a Gear known as Crescens.

They defeat Emeralda in battle, and she seemingly recovers a long-forgotten memory, which Rattan says was expected. He allows them to take Emeralda and leaves to report back to Krelian. The gate collapses, and the party returns to the Yggdrasil with Emeralda. She begins jumping with excitement upon seeing Fei, whom she calls "Kim". Elly presumes Kim is the person who created Emeralda, and Fei resembles him. Emeralda recalls memories of being left in Zeboim, and she asks Fei to stay with her, to which he agrees. Suddenly, a telegram from Shevat is received, confirming they have discovered Solaris' location thanks to the destruction of the three gates. The party returns to Shevat as they plan their next move.

They meet with Zephyr, who says that to enter Solaris, they must disable the fourth gate, which is on Solaris itself. They plan for Maria to use Seibzehn's particle cannon to temporarily neutralize the weakened gate, allowing them to infiltrate Solaris. They agree to split into smaller groups so as not to draw attention to themselves when inside Solaris. Fei, Elly, and Citan form one group, and the rest will form a second group.

Citan has a conversation with Yui before he departs. She seems reluctant towards his decision to return to Solaris, but he says he saw no other path to take. She gives him his sword and asks him to come back alive. Citan also meets with Jessie, and he tells Citan that he will not help him. Instead, Jessie plans to kill him if he "chooses their side", which Citan says he's counting on.

Notes[edit]

  1. According to Perfect Works, Ol' man Bal is Maria's great-grandfather. However, in-game, he is only referred to as her grandfather.
