Story[edit]

Xenosaga Episode II[edit]

The Ormus Stronghold is a free-orbiting fortress controlled by Ormus. It was used by Margulis and the Inquisitors after the abandoning of Pleroma. In its attempt to make it to Old Miltia, the Elsa takes a detour to try and avoid enemy detection. This brings it to an area of space between two black holes; an area known as the Abyss. While passing through however, the Ormus Stronghold gates out between the black holes. The Stronghold had been intended to be used against the Federation Fleet, but instead was hurried into use to block the Elsa. Being unable to maneuver around it due to the black holes, the party boards the Stronghold. While inside they first battle Richard and Hermann in their A.M.W.S. units, then face Orgulla within the core of the base. After defeating her, the party is able to set off a self-destruct sequence that will destroy the base within 30 minutes. As the party makes its escape, they must take on Pellegri in her E.S., Issachar. After defeating her, the party escapes on the Elsa and the Stronghold is swallowed up by the Abyss.

In the post-game, the party can return here via, the EVS to activate the Forbidden Device that leads to the Desert as part of the Dark Erde Kaiser side quest.

Xenosaga I & II[edit]

In Xenosaga I & II, a Federation Fleet led by Pierre Ruryk engages in a skirmish with Immigrant Fleet forces near the Abyss. Ruryk's order of the deployment of U.R.T.V. Pods prompted a surprise attack from the Ormus Stronghold, wiping out most of the Federation Fleet. Ziggy claims to have seen the Stronghold 100 years ago. The main party, having boarded their E.S.s to clear a path for the Elsa, infiltrate the Stronghold in the hopes of reaching Old Miltia. While inside, the party meets up with Jin, who had hitched a ride with the aforementioned Federation Fleet, but was unable to save anyone from the Stronghold's attack. When they reach the core of the Stronghold, they're met with not just Richard and Hermann, but also Albedo in the E.S. Simeon. Albedo forces the other two to retreat and overloads the core of the structure, setting the destruction of the Stronghold in motion. Richard and Hermann then return and fight with the main party. The party wins, but they're unable to escape from the Stronghold in time. The resulting explosion propels the party, Albedo, and Richard and Hermann towards Old Miltia. The remains of the structure fall towards the planet and disintegrate before reaching the surface.

One of the Inquisitors' bases.

A free-orbiting fortress over ten kilometers in length, used by Margulis and the Inquisitors as one of their bases after abandoning Pleroma.

It was set to be deployed in the battle against the Federation fleet inside the path to Miltia when it opened. However, it wound up being hurriedly pressed into use as a defense line against the Elsa when it tried to break through the path.

Despite this, it was destroyed from the inside by E.S. craft piloted by Shion and the others, and was ultimately swallowed by the Abyss.
