- This article is about the area in Future Redeemed. For the area in the base game, see City.
The Old City is an area in Future Redeemed. It is only used in the battle against Moebius N and in cutscenes, meaning that it cannot be explored.
Geography[edit]
The Old City is located where Hope's Rest stands in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. It is noticeably smaller than the new City, consisting of two main streets and a central plaza. The first street connects the City's main entrance and the plaza. It is wide, lined with numerous houses, including Na'el's house. At the end of this street, there is a plaza connecting both streets, resembling Virid Park from the new City. The second street is almost identical to Centrilo Parade in the new City, but it leads to a dead end. This street is the one used to show the destruction of the City with N in the base game.
Unlike the new City, the Old City is not covered, meaning that the sky can be seen.
Story[edit]
Matthew and Na'el, as well as their grandfather hailed from the Old City. After a group of pioneers who attempted to establish a second City were killed, Na'el is consumed by hatred of both Keves and Agnus. After Matthew and Na'el dispatch some Fogbeasts at Erythia Sea, Na'el took home Ontos's Core where it gradually preyed on her weaknesses. The City later came under attack by Alpha (Ontos's instantiation) and later N (who was sent by Z to neutralize Alpha). Ghondor finds Na'el and several City citizens who implores her grandfather to come with her. At this moment, N reveals that Na'el was possessed by Alpha and tries to kill her but Ghondor gets in the way and is mortally wounded. Matthew arrives just in time to see his Grandfather impaled by N's Sword of the End who tells him to get away with Na'el and that the future is in his hands before causing an explosion that destroys the City.
In the aftermath, M was horrified by the destruction and demands N why he do it, only for him to respond that he didn't want to lose her again, and that he and M are Moebius, horrifying M even further, knowing that she has to take life to live. Matthew was later found half dead by A who nursed him back to full health and made a grave of his late grandfather, despite the fact that his body disappeared after death. The two later overlook the ruins of the City from Hope's Rest before deciding to travel together to look for Na'el and City survivors.
Many years after the events of Future Redeemed, Mio leads the party to the ruins of the Old City at Hope's Rest to show them where it once stood before its destruction by N. It was also there where the party identifies Z as their true adversary.
