NPC (XC3)
- For other articles titled "NPC", see NPC (disambiguation).
NPCs, Non-Player Characters, are characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Future Redeemed. They are characters appearing on the field that are not in the player's party. Some NPCs, named NPCs, can be talked to while other NPCs cannot be interacted with, either walking or doing set actions. NPCs can appear and disappear depending on set conditions and, likewise, have their dialogue changed depending on story progress, quest progress, and more. Some unnamed NPCs can engage in auto dialogue, during which they will talk automatically using speech bubbles, with no input needed from the player.
Unnamed NPCs[edit]
Unnamed NPCs can be found around the world of Aionios, walking around, interacting with each other, or doing generic actions like eating, sitting or working. They can't be interacted with by the party, but can indirectly give quests through info fragments.
Auto dialogue and info fragments[edit]
Unnamed NPCs can offer information on the world of Aionios through auto dialogue, that will automatically appear in a white speech bubble when the player approaches them, with no input needed. Some NPCs will have a yellow "i" above their head, and paying attention to them will reveal an auto dialogue appearing in a yellow bubble. Listening to the full exchange between the NPCs will result in obtaining an info fragment, then a discussion when all required info fragments have been found. Some discussions unlock a quest. Info fragments that have been listened to become auto dialogue, in a white bubble. The availability of each auto dialogue and info fragment can change depending on story progress, quest progress, and time of the day.
Some auto dialogue may not appear if the game has been on for too long. This almost-certainly-unintentional behaviour is believed to be caused by memory leak. It can be fixed by saving and closing the game entirely, then reloading.
Named NPCs[edit]
Named NPCs have a storyline upon which their quests, or the quests they are involved in, will be based on. They can be interacted with, and their dialogue will change depending on story and quest progress.
List of named NPCs[edit]
There are roughly 300 named NPCs in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and 35 named NPCs in Future Redeemed. For the lists of named NPCs, see Category:NPCs (XC3) and Category:NPCs (FR).
Availability[edit]
NPCs have a schedule and can become unavailable depending on story or quest progress.
- Location: Most NPCs will move within a specific area, usually within their colony. An NPC can change their location, or disappear, after reaching a certain story point or completing a specific quest, sometimes going to a different colony.
- Schedule: While many NPCs can be found at any time of the day, some follow a schedule and will momentarily disappear during specific hours. In Future Redeemed, NPC schedules can be found on the Community chart. In Xenoblade Chronicles 3, schedules aren't specified to the player.
Dialogue[edit]
Named NPCs can be interacted with and exchange some dialogue with the player. When a NPCs has a new dialogue to offer, a yellow filled speech bubble with a yellow star appears above their head. When the dialogue has been listened to, the speech bubble loses its yellow filling and its yellow star. In Future Redeemed, the speech bubble is replaced by a community symbol.
Affinity Chart and Community[edit]
Xenoblade Chronicles 3[edit]
- Main article: Affinity Chart (XC3)
Named NPCs will appear on the Affinity Chart once they are interacted with. Once on there, it is possible to see some information on them, such as their age, colony of affiliation, and rank or title for the colonies' commanders and lieutenants. NPCs on the Affinity Chart may form Affinity links between each other. Affinity links describe the relationship between two NPCs with a symbol and a few words. This relationship can evolve depending on story progress, quest progress, or NPC dialogue listened to.
Future Redeemed[edit]
- Main article: Community (FR)
In Future Redeemed, the Affinity Chart is replaced by the Community. Community shows similar basic information such as their age or lineage of affiliation, with the addition of their schedule and a unique title. Community NPCs don't form affinity links.
Quests[edit]
Some NPCs can give quests to the player. When an NPC has a quest to give, a yellow "?" appears above their head.
Collectopaedia Cards[edit]
- Main article: Collectopaedia Card
Names NPCs can request the player to give them items through a Collectopaedia Card. If their request is fulfilled, they will give reward items and affinity toward their affiliated colony.
