Monado Eater (モナドイーター, Monado Eater), often shortened to just Eater (イーター, Eater), is one of Shulk's Monado Arts in Xenoblade Chronicles and Future Connected. It involves Shulk using the Monado to fire a wave of dark ether at enemies in front of him, removing any and all buffs they have at the time and inflicting Bleed.

The character used in the Art is (くい), which means "devour" in Japanese.

Overview[edit]

Monado Eater is easy to underestimate, but if used correctly it can be quite powerful. Its main strengths are that it can hit even more enemies than Monado Buster (due to having 50% longer range and hitting in a cone instead of a line) while costing less of Shulk's talent gauge, that it generates considerably less aggro than Buster because the majority of its damage is dealt over time via Bleed, and that it can remove the powerful buffs some enemies have. On the other hand, Eater's main drawbacks are that it deals ether damage (Shulk is usually better at dealing physical damage) and that Bleed is the weakest of the damage over time debuffs, both of which restrict its damage potential unless the player equips gems like Ether Up on Shulk to compensate. Shulk also shouldn't be using Eater too soon after he just did, as it will reset the bleeding rather than adding onto it. It is also Shulk's slowest art, taking over three seconds to hit and almost six seconds to fully execute.
