Marguerite "Margie" Fatima is a supporting character in Xenogears. She is the current Holy Mother of Nisan and Bart's cousin. She also joins the Party as a guest on numerous occasions.

Appearance and Personality[edit]

Margie has shoulder length brown hair and blue eyes.

Margie is a friendly and caring girl. She is mother like in nature and thinks only of how she can serve. She typically holds her self control and is calm when held by the enemy. She loves her cousin Bart and is willing to die for him if necessary. She also feels a deep sense of responsibility to Bart for shielding her from torture.

Story arc[edit]

Margie is the cousin of Bart. She was born 16 years ago to Nisan Great Mother Elvira Fatima and Marquis Francis Ravane. Her family was killed when she was 4 years old when Shakhan led a coup against Bart's father. While she and Bart had initially been held captive, they were rescued by Sigurd. Margie was kept on the Yggdrasil for a few years and was returned to Nisan at 10 years old. Her survival was announced to the public and she was named the Great Mother of Nisan. In this role she governs the Nisan religion.

At the age of 16, based on false information that her family members were still alive, she snuck into Bledavik and was captured. She was held by Shakhan and personally interrogated by not only him, but also Ramsus and Miang in pursuit of the Fatima Jasper. While there she found a pink rodent-like creature, Chu-Chu, which she thought was a doll but was actually a living creature. Bart leads a mission to rescue her and is successful. They head to Nisan afterwards and Margie shows Bart and the others around the town, including the Cathedral. She initially stays within Nisan, but when the Nisan army is destroyed Bart takes her aboard the Yggdrasil. She remains there throughout much of the game.

When Shakhan invades Nisan, Margie accompanies Bart and the others as they head there and try to liberate it. Within the Royal Mausoleum, which is in fact Fort Jasper, she is a great help in unlocking seals due to possessing the Fatima Jasper, which is in fact the blue pupils of the Fatima family. When Shakhan traps the group, she runs to the Omnigear Andvari and is able to use it to help defeat some enemy Gears. While she is shot as a result, she is nursed back to health in Nisan. She remains there throughout disc 2, helping out Elly and the others as they care for those who are mutated. Her final appearance is in the ending, accompanying the others as they await Fei and Elly's return.

Gameplay[edit]

Margie tags along during both battles with Ramsus as support by healing the party and the party's journey into the Nisan Mausoleum. She can also change party members while onboard the Yggdrasil. For the majority of Disc 2, the party doesn't have access to the Yggdrasil or Margie, with her role being filled in by a blue memory cube.

Trivia[edit]

Despite not being a member of the party, Margie can be seen in the anime cutscene where Elly/Miang shoots Fei at Merkava, most likely due to the rushed nature of Disc 2.
