Lost Jerusalem, formerly known as Earth, is the original home planet of humanity in the Xenosaga series. It is based on the real life planet Earth and shares most, if not all, of its geographical makeup. As a result, many references to people and places that existed on this planet in Xenosaga have parallels to people and places in real life.
Story[edit]
History[edit]
In 20XX A.D., a mysterious golden monolith, dubbed the Zohar, was discovered off the shore of Lake Turkana, Kenya. Shortly after, the Zohar, along with other artifacts retrieved at the dig site, was transferred to a Vector Industries laboratory located in Toronto, Canada for research. One of the systems programmers there, named Grimoire Verum, made the choice to start a Link Experiment between the Zohar and his own daughter, Nephilim, thinking it would be safe after having transcribed the Zohar's control program, Lemegeton, from manuscripts found at the dig site in Kenya. However, control of the Zohar was lost, causing Nephilim to disappear. This disappearance phenomenon, known as a Space-Time Anomaly, came to spread throughout the planet, prompting its inhabitants to evacuate into outer space. To prevent the space-time anomaly from spreading to the rest of the universe, Vector Industries' CEO, Wilhelm, shrank the planet to Planck scale.
Earth's disappearance and humanity's ascension to the stars prompted humanity to adopt the T.C. (Transcend Christ) format in their future calendar in A.D. 2510. In T.C. 0016, Earth is renamed to Lost Jerusalem, likely due to humanity's vain efforts to locate the now hidden planet. The Immigrant Fleet (the first fleet of ships to escape from Lost Jerusalem), took many records of Earth, such as culture, important art, books, the Bible, and even to the extent of a quote from Paul McCartney, with them, onboard a ship known as the Pleroma. The other ships that escaped from Lost Jerusalem eventually intermingled, creating a large interstellar government body known as the Galaxy Federation, which would go on to name its future capitol planets after their planet of origin. 4000 years later, the current capitol of the Federation is Fifth Jerusalem. The religious organization affiliated with the Immigrant Fleet, Ormus, now considers Lost Jerusalem a holy place, and their main supposed goal is to gather the Relics of God and return there. However, this ultimate goal turns out to be a manipulation conjured by Wilhelm to meet his end goal. Rennes-le-Château, and the floating landmass it is located on, originated from Lost Jerusalem.
Episode III[edit]
After Shion and the party rejects the Eternal Recurrence and destroys Zarathustra on Michtam, Nephilim and chaos uses their power to transport the planet to Lost Jerusalem. Later, Shion, Allen, and Jr. embark on a journey to Lost Jerusalem in order to find a solution to save the universe. KOS-MOS's torso is seen drifting towards Lost Jerusalem in the ending.
