Life or Death is Disc 1, Track 12 on the Xenosaga Original Soundtrack and Disc 2, Track 10 on the Xenosaga Episode I album. The melody at 0:41 is based on a motif from Gnosis.
It plays during the cutscene when KOS-MOS begins her boot-up sequence on her own on the Woglinde. It also plays as the area music during the following story events:
- On the Woglinde during the Gnosis attack.
- On the Elsa after Ziggy and MOMO are rescued until the DOMO Carrier is defeated.
- In the Kukai Foundation's City Sectors 26 and 27 during the Gnosis attack (until Gigas is defeated).

Official translation
Although the original piece is intense, I personally feel that it "is a fun song" with a lot of striking phrases. I think that impression is strongly reflected in this arrangement. While maintaining the intense atmosphere of the original, I had fun writing this arrangement based on a sort of facetiously grandiose and pretentious mental image similar to a Scherzo.

原曲には印象的なフレーズが多く、曲の背景とは裏腹に「楽しい」 イメージが強い曲で、そのイメージが今回のアレンジに強く反映したのかなと思います。原曲の激情的な雰囲気を保ちつつ、スケルツォのような、ある種ふざけていて大袈裟で気取ったイメージをベースに楽しく書かせていただきました。
