Landmark (XCX)

Landmarks are special points in Xenoblade Chronicles X. They are points on the map which serve as Fast Travel points, and often correspond to some point of interest in the overworld. Landmarks are discovered when they are approached, and a sound effect plays from the GamePad indicating that the player can Fast Travel there in the future. Additionally, when the player is Incapacitated, they will respawn at the last landmark visited once 30 seconds are up, the party is wiped, or the player chooses "Return" to immediately go back.
Discovered landmarks appear on the FrontierNav segment map with a symbol resembling a warp from one part of a map to another. In the Wii U version, the player can use fast travel by tapping on the segment with the landmark and then tapping the "Fast Travel" button on the GamePad. In the Definitive Edition, they select the location of the landmark on the map screen to fast travel there. Fast travel is only made available at the start of Chapter 3.
FrontierNav Sites act similarly to landmarks, but the player has to install a Data Probe at the miranium deposit site in order to unlock the landmark.
Unlike Secret Areas in other games, Unexplored Territories and Scenic Viewpoints do not count as landmarks.
In the Wii U version if the player holds the touch screen for 30 seconds (900 frames), the game will ask if they want to return to the last visited landmark. This feature prevents getting softlocked in terrain, and can be used to escape the border around the administrative district in Chapter 1. It is unclear if this feature still exist in the Switch version nor how to access it. This feature becomes permanently inaccessible after starting Chapter 3 and unlocking skip travel.
