Lake Turkana, also known as Lake Rudolf, is a lake where the inciting incident of the Xenosaga series took place. It is located in the country of Kenya, on the continent of Africa, on the planet Earth.

Story

In the year 20XX AD, an excavation funded by Vector Industries and led by Dr. Masuda off the shore of Lake Turkana resulted in the discovery of several artifacts. The discovery of the Compass of Order and Chaos is depicted at the beginning of Episode I. When Dr. Masuda places a silver tablet into the compass's cavity, the ground shakes as ruins emerge from the lake. From the ruins, the Original Zohar appears. Although not shown, the Zohar and the Compass were both transferred to Vector for research purposes shortly after their discovery.

The lake where the Zohar was discovered

The lake whose excavation project was led by Dr. Masuda, funded by Vector Industries capital.

Excavation on the lakeside revealed the pedestal of the "Compass of Order and Chaos." When Masuda placed a stone tablet he had with him on the excavated object, the Zohar appeared from the lake.

The lake is located on the northern edge of Kenya, in Africa. Its surface area is 7000 square kilometers, and its maximum depth is 73 meters. It is located in a very hot, semi-arid area, and there is little vegetation in the landscape, apart from shrubs.

The eastern coastline of Lake Turkana is well known as one of Africa's greatest sites for fossilized hominids. The region is home to the Sibiloi, Central Island, and South Island National Parks; a large variety of bird species live in the area. The lake basin also offers a view of a Quaternary Period desert environment.

As a vital location for historical research, the Lake Turkana National Parks were registered as a natural heritage World Heritage Site in A.D. 1997. This registration was expanded in A.D. 2001.

また、湖周辺にはシビロイ国立公園、中央島国立公園、南島国立公園があり、この辺りには多くの鳥類が生息するほかトゥルカナ湖盆地の第四紀の砂漠環境が見られる。
歴史研究の重要な場と考え、A.D.1997にトゥルカナ湖国立公園群は自然遺産として登録され、A.D.2001に拡大登録された。
