Story arc[edit]

History[edit]

Kevin was the chief engineer of the KOS-MOS project within Vector Industries First R&D Division. He was Shion's superior as well as her boyfriend. Kevin was in charge of both the hardware and software components of KOS-MOS. In Episode I, Kevin is shown in a flashback of Shion's where she is working at night on KOS-MOS. He brings Shion coffee and tells her about how much he is looking forward to seeing KOS-MOS wake up, but is not sure what to tell her. Shion tells him to give the simple message of good morning which gets him to relax about it. We also see an earlier flashback when he asks Shion if KOS-MOS has a heart.

Two years before the events of Episode I, he was killed during an incident when the U-TIC Organization attempted to seize KOS-MOS and she went out of control; being impaled in the chest by her. Flashbacks reveal that Kevin was the one who handed the U-TIC officer in charge, Andrew Cherenkov, a device to use to activate KOS-MOS. Kevin intentionally arranged for the incident to occur such that he would be killed and he became the Red Testament.

A photo displayed by Juli Mizrahi during the game also shows that he was the assistant of Joachim Mizrahi when he was younger.

Episode I[edit]

During the present day events of Episode I Kevin appears exclusively as the Red Testament, with his identity hidden by a mask. He can be found conversing with Wilhelm in several scenes including a discussion about information they have been reported on by KOS-MOS. Later he also converses with Virgil, who has recently become the Blue Testament. He tells him to come back and that Virgil will have to get used to hearing his voice in his head.

Episode II[edit]

Kevin appears in a flashback talking with Shion about how KOS-MOS' awakening will lead humanity towards the future. He has been working on a craft that is part of KOS-MOS' equipment and will be able to interact with hyperspace on its own. He tells Shion that he wants to believe that KOS-MOS will be more than just a wanton instrument of destruction.

As the Red Testament, Kevin appears in a scene speaking with Wilhelm, telling him that they've detected Albedo's ascension. He appears at the Ω System along with the Blue and Black Testaments and kills Sergius then revives Albedo. He also appears with the other Testaments and Wilhelm in the game's last scene.

As the Red Testament, Kevin wears red full body armor and a wing-shaped cloak. He also wears a bird-shaped mask of the same color.

Kevin is loyal to his master, Wilhelm and carries out his plan to enact the Eternal Recurrence willingly. He also speaks with an observant tone. Even as a Testament, his care for Shion is still present, even going far as manipulating her into joining his side. His love for Shion is so strong that he is even willing to betray Wilhelm to save her as the latter tortures her. In battle, Kevin can take the form a demonic knight.

Lore[edit]

  • The surname Winnicot is given to him by his foster parents due to his keen intelligence.
  • In a flashback side story in Xenosaga I & II, Kevin tells Shion that his mother and his sister died on Michtam. However, when this same scene appears in Xenosaga III, any mention of Kevin's sister is omitted.

Central figure to the KOS-MOS Project Joint Operation.

Central figure to the KOS-MOS Project Joint Operation. Shion’s superior and lover.

A man with great brilliance with a bright future ahead of him, until he was killed protecting Shion during an accident in which the Archetype went out of control during an activation test. After his death, Shion continued his work, taking the development of KOS-MOS into her own hands.

Though generally a gentle young man who inspired trust in his subordinates, his expression was occasionally darkly clouded.

A native of Michtam, he escaped by the hand of his fatally injured mother when the plane was destroyed as a result of the Zohar going out of control.

Several years later, while at the C.S.R.C during university, Kevin transferred along with Joachim to the U-TIC Organization, where he completed initial planning of KOS-MOS on his own.

After the Miltian Conflict, he took the fundamental theory behind KOS-MOS and joined Vector.

The surname Winnicot is from the foster parents who took him in after his escape from Michtam; it is unknown whether Kevin is his true given name or not. Regardless, it remains true that as a native of Michtam—inheritor of the blood of Abraxas, his lineage is steeped in deep connection to the Zohar.

T.C. 4747. Following the destruction of planet Michtam, a resource recovery ship rescued a young boy assumed to have escaped in a pod. Upon hearing of a survivor, the Federal Accident Investigation Committee attempted to question him regarding the details of the accident, but the boy was unable to recount much, due to the shock of the tragedy, and the Committee’s efforts ended in naught.

Eventually placed in an orphanage, he was quickly accepted by foster parents, thanks to his keen intelligence. The surname Winnicot was taken from these parents; he refused to mention anything except for the name Kevin, and his original surname is unknown.

Reports from the orphanage confirm that he carried a pendant thought to be a memento of his mother. His foster parents died in the ensuing Miltian Conflict, in which Realians across the galaxy went berserk.
