Hiroyuki Sawano, also stylised as Hiroyuki SAWANO and SawanoHiroyuki[nZk], is a Japanese composer most famous for his soundtrack music. His music is known for its typically percussion-heavy, thick texture, as well as his idiosyncratic track titling habits.
Biography[edit]
Sawano was born on the 12th of September, 1980 in Tokyo, Japan. He gained an interest in music in elementary school, inspired by the pop artist Ryo Aska and (later) by Tetsuya Komuro.[1] He decided to have a career in music when he was in high school, and started to take composition lessons under Nobuchika Tsuboi, a composer of contemporary music.[2] He experimented with composing both orchestral music and EDM.
Sawano's first professional contribution as a composer was 'Feel The Moon', the first track on Chen Min's album Moon -月亮心-. He joined with the agent Legendoor in 2006, and continued working with them until the contract was ended in 2017.[3] In the meantime, he saw a rapid rise to success in the soundtrack composition world, especially for his work in 2013 on the anime Attack on Titan, which received awards for its music.[4]
Since 2014, Sawano has also worked on independent songwriting, producing and performing, under the name SawanoHiroyuki[nZk].[1] He has put on several live concerts under this name, working with various vocalists.
