Story arc[edit]

When the party arrives at Gran Dell after being directed there by Teelan and Tyrea, they are met by Helmaline, who asks them if the people at the Companions' Cape are alright. After being affirmed that they are, she further explains why the Companions left Gran Dell. She then points the party in the direction of Radzam.

Much later, when the party returns from the Zekr Marga Quarry with the High Ether Crystal, Helmaline informs the party and Radzam that Fogbeasts breached the gates.

When the party defeats the Fog King and returns to Gran Dell, she is among the Gran Dell residents celebrating their triumph. She also helps repair the Junks, and is seen one last time during Melia's coronation in Alcamoth.

Lore[edit]

  • Helmaline enjoys tinkering with machines. Her fascination stems from a music box given to her by her mother when she was young.
    • When evacuating Alcamoth, she took the music box with her, but it stopped working properly afterward. With the parts obtained by the party during Fixing Up the Junks, she is able to repair it.

After Fixing Up the Junks[edit]

From 3:00 - 6:00:
Helmaline
(sfx: "What is it?" / "Oh!")
When I watch the tiny cogs, springs, rods, escapements, going round and round... It's mesmerising.
Even when they're not serving any grand purpose, I find myself collecting them by the dozen.
Helmaline
But the more complicated the mechanism, the more fascinated I am by it... Or maybe 'thrilled' would be a better word...?
From 6:00 - 15:00:
Helmaline
I like tinkering with mechanisms very much. It all started when I was little, and Mother gave me this music box...
When evacuating the capital, it was the one item I took pains to bring with me...
But afterwards, it just didn't play right... Maybe it was just the age, or maybe I hit it against something, I couldn't tell...
It'd been weighing on me for a while.
Helmaline
But with the cogs you brought me, I could finally fix my precious keepsake. I'll always be grateful to you for that.
Hearing the song never fails to soothe my soul. It...really is my greatest treasure.

After the last Fogbeast attack is repelled[edit]

From 3:00 - 6:00:
Helmaline
The Machina are quite skilled with machines, aren't they? ...Seems pretty obvious, now that I say it out loud...
Even before, when I asked about my music box, they replied extremely exhaustively, and with such care...
But I never knew any Machina back when I was in the capital... Now I really wish I had.
Helmaline
There is so much I can learn about technology from speaking to the Machina, I completely lose track of time.
They're also so patient about explaining, I feel like I can understand everything.
From 6:00 - 15:00:
Helmaline
Earlier, as I was listening to my music box, a Homs came up and talked to me. They wanted to know the name of the song...
I'd never even thought of that before... Now I wish I'd asked my mother when I still had the possibility to...
Helmaline
I like the sound my music box makes when I wind it up.
But when I was winding it earlier, a passing Nopon mistook it for the noise of my stomach rumbling...
I laughed until I thought my stomach might burst. It's been a long while since I've laughed that hard!
